Great promotion, small number of accounts. You'd think that most alt accounts would be P2 accounts, but they aren't.

Thats because alot of people cant afford to be on credit cards or just plainly realize that they are bad and can get you in alot of debt that you will quickly be unable to get out of if you are not careful
hence why the majority pay by ETC if you cant afford it thats just it, you cant afford it

CCP can track your accounts through IP, transactions, and a hardware key unique to that machine.
Not really - what about people on large networks (think uni and *Gulp* work) with a shared IP? and as for hardware keys, yes, there are several that the eve client has access to, but what about several people who use the same machine (brothers, or housemates etc) What about people who have several PCs and access EVE from different ones depending on their circumstance? (e.g big honking pc for fleet fights, laptop for lazing in the garden sorting market orders out)

You would think that they would go to the local corner store and get one of those loadable visa/mc debit cards. No interest and you can only spend as much as you put on it. Plus in my experience so far its accepted without any of those annoying 'transaction declined' hangups due to some arcane overseas transaction restriction.

Since CCP is watching this thread I have a job for your DB guys, that will maybe put the issue to rest (if the answer is already in the main thread I apologize, didnt feel like going through 128 pages of ragepost). Classify accounts into three groups, and post the numbers: 1. Active accounts - Currently subscribed, or was terminated within the last month. 2. Semi-inactive accounts - Accounts that, over the last 6 months, had less than 3 months subscription. 3. Dead accounts - Accounts that have been inactive for longer than 6 months.
A lot of the whine, aside from the people farming characters for isk, seems to be that CCP is exaggerating the proportion of semi-inactive accounts to everyone else. Numbers might clarify this. _________________ [IMAGE REMOVED] -- aka Cpt Bogus -- Is that my torped sig cloaking your base?

Is there a law in your country that forbids Internet CafTs, shared computers and multiple nics, nats or even changing your own macs?
Give up trying to prove who's behind the computer unless you in some way ask or survey the users and trust them. Parrots, commence!

I didn't say there weren't ways to avoid being tracked by CCP. I was saying they should have a pretty decent picture of how many EVE accounts there are in one single "household" _______________________________________________ CCP CENSORSHIP ALERT: CAN YOU SPOT IT? |

The only way to be absolutely sure would be if CCP gave you the option to directly tie accounts together, AND everyone used it when they had multiple accounts. This way, those 3 accounts can count as ONE. They could even ask you to state, but not require you to, how many users will be using said accounts. - - - Aloriana Jacques - Skill Sheet

Edited by: Gedrick frogue on 16/10/2008 02:58:11 At first glance this would seem to be CCP shooting themselves in the foot (insert wepon type here) with killing ghost training.
From an income pov it would look like yes, i.e. somebody's account goes inactive and stops training and also from the player pov it looks like a complete pain in the backside too.
But stop and think about it if your ghost training the only time you getting any benifit if if you have set a char training for that uber L5 skill thats going to take 60 days to train for.
Is this a benifit? are you really NOT going to be using this char to gain isk and pew pew ppl?
Also How the heck are you going to get your char to a high enough level to train for those lovly high end 5's? You can't swap skills while the account is inactive can you so you have to get the gtc's out and PAY money.
So from an income pov it's not a downer for CCP, so who has got the downer from killing this awesome ghost training that is annoying everyone so much?
The only ppl that this DOES effect are ppl who say take a break from eve (burnout anybody?) or mayby you have just got back from your holidays and forgotten to extend your subscription, so thanks CCP for losing me a week of training time.
So yup CCP isn't going to lose any real income (thanks for the GTC nerf btw) but has upped it's aggro factor to their customers and for those who DO think that ghost training is a wonderfull way of training a char, just go and try doing it. You won't get those uber skills and faster and you will STILL have to pay your sub's.

Think about this: Let's say your name is Mike Smith. The way we handle accounts, you'd set up 3 different accounts under the name Mike Smith in order to have 3 active accounts. You may be paying via ETC, so we would not necessarily have address information for you. Even if we did, maybe you set up your billing info with us the first year you played, you moved, and you set up the 2nd account with a different address. RyanD
You know, if you offered an account linking option where you gave a slight discount for people with multiple accounts I'd bet you'd figure it out really, really fast. |

Solution to close the accuraccy to about 98% is to do a query on account IDs and ip addresses. |

RyanD
I think the reason they're not all P2 accounts is because P2 only works for the creation of a NEW account. So if somoene already has 2 accounts, they have to either have 3 accounts or close one of their 2 accounts to get one cheaper... and at some point that becomes pointless.

No. I'm still pondering some kind of cool give away or something ... maybe post a riddle and give items and finally characters to those that answer successfully? Maybe post difficult/funny math/CS problems and see who has a sharp mind? Havne't decided - but I've got a bit of time left. :)

I was mostly joking. That's the most common response when someone says they're quitting.
I look forward to neat giveaway ideas. I have some experience in encryption and would gladly assist in setting up some problems in that area (from easy to very hard depending on what you want).

I usually view the number of "active" accounts as the peak number of accounts actually logged in.
"active" accounts from a CCP perspective is the number of accounts not on trial and are being subscribed to
"active" members of a corp/alliance are generally considered those who are logged in (or at least on a regular basis)

One thing I learned from you guys is that NEVER pay with CC as you guys do cross-reference of CC used and do naughty stuff to accounts that has that CC at SOME point been used.
Using ETC is much more secure way. Sadly, you cannot delete CC info from CCP's database to prevent this kind of abuse. Is it even legal? |
