After listening to techno (vitalic and gusgus) for some time I seem to be needing a healthy dose of goth rock/metal ( beseech, mortal love) and I need some hip and trendy goth suggestions (I like the Sisters but I already know them.)
Goth me up!

Within Temptation (from our very own country), Deine Lakeien, Siouxie and the banshees (when Goths were still called Art ***s), The 3rd and the Mortal, Ayreon, Nightwish, Qntal (I absolutely love these).
This should keep you happy for a bit.

The others I¦ll check out asap

I know the Fields, never heard of the Swans. Might check 'em out.
And something completely different, but I recently discovered the joy of Yo-Yo Ma (Classic Cello) and Liu Fang (Chinese Lute).

Interesting, I really love the band Beirut, their song Nantes is a good one to check out. I have no idea how to describe their music though, but the singer has a voice that is soothing (and sexy). It¦s not techno or rock though, nor rap.

I am by far not a fan of Goth at all.
Someone said above Type O Negative. They are more of a play on goth but I love em and have seen them live 6 or 7 times.
Another band that is not goth but tends to be very dark and poetic is Opeth. I consider Opeth to be the Pink Floyd of black metal.
Opeth - Deliverance Opeth - Death Whispered a Lullaby Type-O-Negative - Black #1 Type-O-Negative - We Hate Everyone

Edited by: Finnroth on 16/10/2008 20:47:52 Weltenbrand is a must hear...enjoy. Therion is also absolutly worth mentioning, though maybe not perfectly fitting in the goth genre. Tiamat is also something you should try. If you understand german, i recommend to hear into the Unheilig stuff, but you need to understand the lyrics. Poisonblack and Silentium are a little mainstream, but also not bad to listen to. Oh yeah, and Estatic Fear! I just love this band. The last result from my brainstorming would be For My Pain.

But then again your ears may be different then mine and may hear something that I do not. I
They fall into the Industrial Metal genre with the likes of Ministry (Land of **** and Honey and Psalm 69 are absolute metal classics), KMFDM, and Pitchshifter. Extreme versions of Industrial include the like of Fear Factory

Speaking of Bauhaus, I just started listening to Peter Murphy. Dust is a really good album; lots of middle eastern influences.

Of course we should mention Love and Rockets too.
You won't go too far wrong checking out the Slimelight set-lists. An example can be found here.
Other bands (not all goth/or gothic but associated to some extent) you might like to checkout:
Apoptygma Bezerk, Clan of Xymox, Icon of Coil, Covenant, C-Tec, Funker Vogt - for more modern stuff
Dead Can Dance & Delerium (if you liked the eastern Peter Murphy stuff) and All About Eve (hippy goth, or 'middle class goth just add Velvet coat from Camden'... )
Johnny Thunders / Lords of the New Church / New model Army - whilst not really 'goth' had goth followings and the gigs were a laugh.
The Clash - just generally for awesome energy and some similar noises. Plus for me brings back early memories of being a 'gothic' and not understanding why the punks kept decking me when I wanted to dance to their awesome music.
Virgin Prunes, The The, New Order, Corpus Delicti of course and of interest might be Jack off Jill (specifically Clear hearts Grey flowers album) and My Ruin (speak and destroy). The last two aren't goth/gothic but somehow I think you will like them.
Uh.. I will stop now and go away to write some poetry reminiscing the days I used to be chased by Skin Heads, the fox was still decent, and Snakebite and black was 60p (I might have imagined that last bit though ).

Don't take that personally punks decked everyone I hsaw a lead singer for some unknown band at the time kick a punk in the face since the dumas kept punching at the singers face when he leaned down towards that audience.
But yes the Clash are an all time classic and rock and roll icons.

The punks and the metal heads chased them scallwags out my home city.

Nah we loved it really, you hadn't really had a good night without at least a little bit of running.. and they didn't really hit the girls (who had trouble running in some of the boots).
Nearly forgot for those who like the Nephilim you might also like Descendants of Cain. Always enjoyed their gigs at Gossips.
Oh, and Eris.. another band for you...
X-Mal Deutschland
ah, I found a potentially useful link to X-Mal and a bunch of others where you can listen to the tracks. Enjoy.
:edit - curses now I'm never going to go to sleep.. so many of my old records.. online for free.. plus I re-discovered SexBat's Tao of Goth too. I thought that was long gone from the net ~~~~ There is no parody in this thread. Honest. |
