Ah, alliance stuff...
Surprised no one mentioned stuff like killmail whoring by plinking every target in sight instead of focusing fire. Or doing drive by sort of stuff when not even staying for the entire fight.
Of course, that's leaning away from rude and more into lame I guess.
Then there's other situations like trying to chain a couple systems and some alliance mate comes along and clears them. I've seen that spawn a few tiffs.

Yeah, that is traditionally a rather ironic and quite funny statistic. Pirates, in general, often are quite a bit more civil than their victims are.
What makes it even better is reflecting on that point whenever someone tries to throw the "psychotic sociopath" attribute towards the players behind the pirate characters.
I don't know. I chalk all that up to people strongly avoiding competition and then finding themselves forced into it and losing. Their mindset is wrong from the get go. Kind of like playing a game of tennis with the expectation that your opponent will score no points then flipping out when they do. Just a silly mindset to be in in the first place.
Of course that could be pointed at CCP falling down in the expectation management department and continuing to "get it wrong" with the buffing of concord and gateguns, etc. But that's spinning off on a different tangent.

i find it rude to answer the kindly offered option of saving your pod for a little fee with something in the line of 'F*ck you, b*tch!' so far i loled at them, but i'm looking into petitioning every single one of em It's nothing personal. I just want your stuff, and more importantly the fun of the fight. |

You do realise that posting that opinion will only make them do it moar as they spam level 4 high sec missions on thier second account whilst your corp vainly tries to get them to undock and aggro as they idle in the station in thier pirate account and relentlessly smack in local yes?
As far as what I consider rude in the game? Nothing as its just a game and I'm looooong past my emoyouth days.

I honestly haven't seen anything that is rude to me. I guess it's because I assume everyone is selfish and out to get ahead in any way the can. So I expect a certain response and attitude to things. If I came in thinking everyone is holding hands and singing together, then I probably would have issue with some of the stuff that goes on in game.

Originally by: Roy Batty68 Someone salvaging all the wrecks in the belt they're mining in without asking
I had this happen on an Alt, once-upon-a-time. The guy in question got really verbally aggressive about my not having asked him if I could salvage wrecks around his Hulk. I did not loot the wrecks as I wasn't in the mood that day to provoke a fight, I just wanted to gather some parts for a rig a friend was going to build for me.
His language became especially "colorful" when I salvaged an empty commander frigate wreck , though I only got a single piece of (pretty worthless) Tech II salvage for my trouble with it.
Eventually I decided to take offense to what I felt was disproportionate behavior, so I left the belt - and fitted smart bombs to my cruiser and came back several minutes later to launch a suicide attack his five Harvester drones.

thats just pathetic. If people want to talk in local then expect everyone else to have a say in the convo. I know I have a thing for jumping in on conversations going on in local as im cruising about.
Why do i do it? typically cause im bored as hell while traveling through Eve. If there isn't a local convo i can jump in on and toss out random stuff, i start tossing out random stuff to get poeple to go "wtf????" as I jump out.
If people want to start arguing , thats fine, i have no problem stomping the stupidity out of them But don't expect me to just stop when you decide you had enough but haven't said you give up. Some nubs have threatened to petition because im "harrassing" them even though they started the whole thing :P.
Seriously theres very little to bother petitioning a player over. Personally I have a problem with people threatening to petition over "foul language" as though everyone hasn't tossed out just about every single word imaginable and even in a few other languages before. Racism however is where the line is drawn and should be petitioned.
I'm not one of those PC, fuzzy, feel good kinda people. I'm not going to vote for someone based on their skin color and to be "fair" but i think racism is just pathetic. But then again everyone at some point in time has allowed themselves to drop to that level at some point, anyone saying otherwise is unable to be honest with themselves.

That's actually a pretty good one. Not that I'm taking one side or the other, just I've seen some people really go bonkers about swearing on corp chat or vent.
I think it is generally people who let their kids play as well or are taking the moral high ground on behalf of kids or something. Whatever the source, I've seen it evoke some pretty heated discussions.
End of the day, it's always best to set the expectations on that particular front early on. Like during recruitment say, "it is very likely there will be some rude and crude language in corp/alliance chat. If that offends you, you should look elsewhere", etc.
As far as language in public channels or in a ad hoc private chats, that's a bit of a grey area. I tend to think that people who expect a higher standard than the norm, may be within their rights, but they are being a bit unrealistic. And given that, they should lead by example by asking for a tone down in a reasonable way instead of going straight to, "OMG You have offended my delicate sensibilities and you will now have to listen to my Sermon on the Soapbox for next 43 minutes!!!".
But that's just me. I'm pretty easy going. Which is probably why it usually surprises me when people fly off the deep end taking offense to whatever.
And then you have those "special types" who get their rocks off by getting people all worked up and foaming at the mouth. And they generally try and get it spinning by talking alot of trash/bs. It's like they're huge fan boys of the TankCEO tsrumble video and they think the highest victory possible is to get someone to respond like that dude in the video.
To me though, it's so transparent as to be laughable. So getting worked up about it is just... Well, there's more than one way to win an encounter. /shrug
IMO if people are going to be easily offended by a little swearing, they probably need to find a different internet.

Smacking, cussing and/or losing your temper. I don't have a problem with blowing people up or getting blown up, I do make use of every allowed ingame option I have to gain the advantage including making use of the stupidity/non-effort of others. But that's part of the game.
I can also understand that at times one has to vent and isn't in full control but there's a difference between going "f**k" or "m###erf####r" and leaving it at that or frothing at the mouth bringing in all kinds of crap.
Apart from that, I don't like not being able to trust people who I should be able to trust. Not exactly 'rude' but still.

If they had power/internet at the undock button, they've made their choice. CCP has just never commited to one direction or the other on the topic. They've been dancing back and forth on that line for awhile now. - logoffski in a bubble... you're stuck - logoffski under a disrupter, ship disappears
Why the inconsistancy?
- Lose your ship to lag in some humungous fleet fight - our logs show nothing and we don't reimburse for lag - Lose connection in your mission, on jump in, etc - ship flies off on it's own
Pick one or the other. Standardize the response theme.
Undock is your consent. Lose your ship to lag? Tough luck. And with that one simple choice, the need to comprimise every other situation in game play is no longer needed.
But then I do tend to be a hardliner on eve topics.

What is a bit more rude, and i've seen it done, is when some new player is in their Navitas, mining a plain Veldspar rock, and someone comes in with a Hulk or Covetor, and flies over from the opposite end of the belt, just to mine the same rock.
so, when I'm in my Retriever, and someone mines the same rock it's: Velator = Navitas = Vexor = Retriever = Hulk = |
