Im either looking in entirely the wrong place or there is none. but is there an anti aliasing feature on eve because the jagged lines of the ships do annoy me a tad.

Has to be done from your gfx settings in windows, if I'm not mistaken.

There is no AA control within the games Visual settings.
If you want to force on AA then you will have to use your Video Cards Control Panel, and edit the Eve profile.
However, it is my understanding that on Nvidia hardware you cannot have both AA and Hdr Lighting. Since Eve makes use of HDR lighting (at lest the premium version does) you wont be able to make use of AA, even if you force it "on" in your game profile. This may or may not apply to ATI hardware, Im not sure.

If you turn off HDR you can use anti-alias from your NVidia settings... but, while the ships did look better to me, the fps were affected quite a bit on my pc, so I ended up switching back... (I have a 8600 GTS 256MB)

Does anyone actually know why CCP hasn't included an AA option into the eve client? It's quite annoying that I have to force AA on with the gfx drivers / nHancer, especially since it doesn't seem to work at all if you are playing in windowed mode.

You're misinterpreting Lingorm. DirectX 9 has a problem with running both HDR and AA simultaneously, it can run one of the two just fine.
As to why they don't include AA in options and only let people activate it when HDR is off, I have no idea. Maybe they're just lazy?

Put ur GFX card in the microwave for 1 minute 26 seconds exactly, this will force AA on it and make it uber!
Note: the 1:26 mins is for an 800 watt microwave, if your microvave is a lower/higer wattage please factor this in!

Be careful what you term bullshit. DirectX 9 has a problem running both, it doesn't mean that it can't. The two features aren't used at the same time because it causes a massive performance hit. Go ahead sir, enable it and see. CCP isn't going to use what is essentially a hack, and put it in their options menu for people to complain about. _______________________________________________ CCP CENSORSHIP ALERT: CAN YOU SPOT IT? |

I've been running with both since the Trinity upgrade last November (?). No problems.

Edited by: Shard Merchant on 20/10/2008 21:19:09 First, it does cause a massive performance hit. But are you talking about 120 fps zoomed out, with like one ship on screen? My overclocked 8800GT is virtually identical to your 8800GTX, and at 1680x1050 it would drop to 30 fps from 150 using HDR+AA. It would easily go up if I zoomed out where LOD factored in, but that's hardly useful. _______________________________________________ CCP CENSORSHIP ALERT: CAN YOU SPOT IT? |

Does 768Mb on the card make a difference? Running at stock speeds.
The 120FPS is not zoomed out, with 1-3 ships. I just undocked my alt at Oursulaert (SP?), and with 8 ships and the station, not zoomed out I got a variation of 88-102, with 95 most of the time. With about 20-30 ships it can go down to 50-80FPS, especially bad at a POS.
Fleet action is zoomed-out. ...

I previously made a topic on the Tech Lab regarding the same thing- no dev responses yet.
Why they can't have a function that allows either only HDR or AA is odd. I guess they're busy with other things atm. ---

Newer nVIDIA cards can do AA+HDR just fine.. Just not EVE... nHAncer and all the tricks that people are talking about doesn't work or it only works for the selected few. I'm just hoping CCP has this on their to-do list. Even if it is, they will prolly not fix it in the next 100 years.
And about the no-dev response: do you notice that for all the valid issues that are posted by memebers and where there is no dev-response (which is almost every) they simply ignore you all together or don't have a ****ing clue what to do about it?

We have posted about this issue in the threads that seem to turn up about once a month.
The correct Articles have been pointed too.
'Other Companies' that get referred to that have 'done both' actually either code a pre-rendering optimisation system before it gets passed to DirectX (from what I understand). As we wanted to make Premium available for the widest practicable set of hardware so HDR was used.

Edited by: Speculative Sally on 21/10/2008 10:43:15 You can force HDR+AA to work on ATI cards, or just AA in the classic client, if you: clone the eve\bin directory (make a copy and call it eve\bin-hdr or something), rename the eve.exe the new directory contains to oblivion.exe, then create a shortcut pointing to the new oblivion.exe file with the "start in" path changed to the original eve\bin directory.
Bingo, HDR+AA.
Now for the record, the game looks pretty amazing with HDR+AA turned on but it runs like ass unless you've got a high end SLI or crossfire setup.
I just went through all of this tonight on my 4870x2, and some other garbage to clock only 1 core up from low power 2d mode when I run eve in a window. Annoying, yes.

Fascinating. I don't force AA+HDR but I have the same card and resolution. During FW fleet engagements (and some of those were pretty blobby) I think I occasionally saw my FPS drop below 60. I run with interval=1 so can't comment on how high it normally runs but if you're seeing low 30s then it suggests that AA+HDR is indeed a nasty performance hit. |

I'm not sure what you have done with the SiSi build but AA is no longer possible to force (at least not with ATI cards).

I can force AA on my system but HOO BOY does it ever rip the crap out of my machine. And it doesnt seem to ACTUALLY force AA either, just makes my computer run really slow without any graphical improvement. Awesome.

AA and HDR is possible, I use it all the time at 1680x1050 and i get over 100fps. Even doing lvl 4 missions or fighting in pvp battles and maintain a decent frame rate.
It looks fantastic also,
