I agree, it really annoyed me when players tried to palm themselves off as losing a battleship when they hadn't, in an effort to get compensation from Devalon. They deserve a slapping. Kudos to Devalon for giving some talky-roleplay after the event. That was a really nice touch. And respects to the NPCs who were very well organised and stood their ground. I wonder what your personal chat channel must have looked like during the event?!
As long as the risks are clearly defined no compensation is given - people have a choice to take part in an event, we don't force them
As for events co-ordination, Aurora uses a combination of teamspeak and ingame dictation by the producer on how to perform in an event and of course ongoing updates during the event. The actors are also given weekly team working exercises and combat training.

Sounds like it's even more fun to be an actor than to be in an event as a player! ... I want to be an actor!
Cool ideas for the game - New mission types - Group missions - Planets and the market |

Edited by: Crimson Smith on 02/07/2004 12:25:06 Edited by: Crimson Smith on 02/07/2004 12:24:13 Had a right laugh- think it's the largest fleet engagement I've ever been in- grabbed a couple of screenies that I'll upload when I get home.
Props to the organiser- the only thing that spoiled it for me was the whole game freezing about 30 seconds after the serp smuggler warped to Reynire gate- I had him at 20km sucking down my cruises with a side order of AM, then everything went black, leaving me slightly worried about the health of my BS...
Wonder if the rude children of ROME are going to be the event team's next target?
(edit) Oh- and we took out two of their BS- one at the outpost and apparently the one which decided to chase us to the gate- my share of the bounty? A whole TWO THOUSAND isk! All to myself! (/edit)

I'd guess that the actors never have to put up with the lag such a blob creates... That would be one serious advantage. But damn! 80vs7 and no luck!

Originally by: Amarillon ...When I "woke up", I was in the next system, in a pod, being told I had been killed by the sentry guns. That bit I don't get in the slightest...
Ah well. It's not as if there's an EVE-wide shortage of Caracals. I'd just like to know why the sentry guns killed me for defending myself!!!
I had a similar experience.
Suggest you look in your EVE\capture\Gamelogs directory.
In my own case, I went in in a Frigate, armed with a SmartBomb and some drones. When I warped in, I immediately set course to Orbit the Serpentis Smuggler -- which the GangLeader had designated primary target -- and launched one drone.
I then arrived in Lag City, found myself at my target, and started SmartBombing. I got multiple unexpected warnings about initiating hostilites, but I blew them off. Never did get to launch my other drones before I got awarded my pod and ran away.
Looking in EVE\capture\Gamelogs later, I found that I had done at least as much damage to other members of my Gang as I had to my target. Including podding one of them! 8-((
And now I'm sporting a nice -0.9 Security Status. Ghu knows how long I'll have to do penance, hunting Rats, to work *that* off!
I still think Kamikaze SmartBombing can work, but only if the other attackers stand off out of range.
Which will take a bit more discipline than an ad-hoc-ly-thrown-together mob like yesterday's is ever going to have.
Oh. Well.
It was still a fun, highly entertaining and educational Event for me. And a classic illustration of what Carl von Clausewitz had in mind when he wrote about Friction in War.
But I don't plan to attend another such, unless I can find some mates who want to practice up some tactics first: it's just too expensive in lost equipment and too dangerous to this, my most highly-trained character.
Hmm... Maybe next time I could try one of my less expensive characters. Hmm...

I will express my opinion on this subject...
From our part we were organized, our TS was running, we were calling target and synchronized to warp and so on. Firstly we send a scout who reported eight BS. Well we were around 50 people. We engaged them and then hell broke loose.
For some of us lag was terrible, and we did not stand a chance against those BSes. They were crushing armor tanked megathron in around ten seconds. And when we killed one of the BS, it respawned.
This was already bad at this point, but the worse was to come. After some minutes of intensive "shoot the people", there were can flying everywhere. So some people from "Rome" came and started to grab the loot. I do not have any problem with that, it is part of the game, but when there was no other target, the people from aurora not only let them empty our can without problem but they also podded us if we try to get our stuff.
What I see here is simply collusion between people involved in the event and this corporation.
And then it is already hard to loose a BS when you went in what was basically a trap, but it is even harder when some rogue are trying to sell your named mods on the event channel. Then you can get really angry.
For a lot of people it was a funny event, "hey go there and get banged by gm", it would have certainly be fun if I would came in a cruiser and come back in a pod. But this was not the case.
Several of us went to a lot of event, and it was *never* like that. And for this one :
Quote:
As long as the risks are clearly defined no compensation is given - people have a choice to take part in an event, we don't force them
I suppose that's why we receive a compensation in that case ? Simply because you know that everything was screwed up ?

All aurora events are different where some like this were, proved to be too powerful for the players (you were infact attacking a Outpost, where you should expect them to be stronger.) You shouldnt use this as a reference for all Aurora events, not all our events are combat either. It would be a shame for you and others to miss out on lots of opertunities because you lost this fight.

Not at all. No compensation was given out last night.
The rewards given out last night are in line with the original event proposal and the associated risk versus reward balance.
If you risk a lot to take part in an event, or do a lot of work then the reward is more than someone who doesn't risk themselves at all.
Its one of the hardest parts of events to balance correctly. ---- Nebulai Vice-Admiral Events Team Interstellar Services Department
