Edited by: Etom Voke on 02/07/2004 10:44:28 Edited by: Etom Voke on 02/07/2004 10:42:17 The cloaking device is pretty useless right now.
1. You are seen in local space. Very shoddy thinking and programming.
2. Being within 1km of a can will uncloak you. Why? This was obviously not intented. It is a bug. Pirates can place small containers or even cans with 1 trit in them all around gates. Great, now pirates will litter gates.
3. Why do I decloak when within 1km of another ship. It's a bloody cloaking device. I can't do anything except crawl when cloaked anyway. And they want to raise it to 10km??? That makes it completely useless. Why did you bother putting it in then?
4. You have made me waste time by skilling up for a pretty useless cloaking device which will be made utterly useless by totally incompetent programmers/designers.
5. CCP, please sell the game to a company with good designers/programmers. You are, frankly, ruining the game. You are comming out with Shiva but you haven't fixed all the bugs that are still in the game.
6. I have 3 accounts and I will quit if incompetent people in CCP continue to ruin the show. So will others.
7. Take the above remarks seriously. People are angry. I suggest you listen to them.
Just as a little note, have any of you watched Star Trek? I can imagine the reaction to a scene in a movie if a Klingon Bird of Prey deloaked because it was within 1 km of a garbage can. Hysterical laughter at the idiot that thought of the idea.

Bitter after paying 100m for that cheap magic trick?
That attitude wont get you anywhere, and you dont even have any valid points in your post.

I have valid points. Did you read my post or are you just trolling. Oh, and are you jealous you can't afford a cloaking device? As for the cookie, I'd rather meet you in person and bloody your nose.

I happen to agree with the original poster. He made some very valid points. On the other hand, talking about taking Castor oil and eating cookies are the marks of Trolls. If you don't have anything intelligent to say, don't say it.

O........K .....someone needs to rent out a copy of Anger Management and watch it.
As stated you seem a little OTT demanding CCP sell the game...wtf
I do have to agree that 10km decloak is ridiculous though and the can dropping thing is a possible issue but seriously quit threats are ghey. Just quit already. I would have thought about quitting if the gun tracking wasnt confirmed as b0rk3d (despite a hundred noobs saying otherwise) but didnt rush to forums telling the world coz frankly screaming you are gonna quit makes you look childish (not that ever stopped me doing stuff)
I pulled my hair out collecting Jove bits and although cloaking is pretty useless its rather fun none the less. Magic is cool.
I urge CCP to rethink this 10km from object thing. Its a poorly thought out figure, as are your insta gate ideas. Did laugh about the Warbird anology but I think you need to lie down for a few hours, or smoke a fat one.
So HMV consider Andy Williams and Dean Martin to be "easy listening" do they? Tell that to my mate Dave, he's been deaf for 20 years.

None of the points he raised concern programming, yet he slams CCP's programming skills.
Calling people (the devs) idiots, shoddy thinkers and incompetent is what I generally call trolling.
The points aren't valid. He's just *****ing about a new module. It's a "I don't like this particular thing, so I threaten to quit" post. ------------------------------------------- "My main griveance with the Caldari state was that once I had finished my work for them, they wanted me dead."
"No, it's none of your business." |

I agree. The cloaking device is useless and needs an overhaul, not a nerf. I do have a question though to the two youngsters who responded with "nothing" posts. Why did you bother? Or do you just like to troll?

CCP's programming skills are already known to be shoddy. Being a CCP fanboi only encourages them to do nothing. I do see incompetence when every patch breaks something else. That's not trolling, it's telling the truth.
His points are very valid. You just like being a difficult child.

Demanding stuff to be fixed "NOW OR I have XX accounts and I quit" type of posts aren't going to get you anywhere.
Most of the time, posts like that come from people who have already made up their minds that they're gonna leave, so no game company is going to pay attention to it. They'll just write you off, check the number of new accounts created in the last 30 days, see that there is a positive trend, and yawn.
Your rant wont affect the schedule of the bug fixing team by a microsecond.
Have a cookie and calm down. Maybe find a sucker to pay 100m for that cloaking device you just bought.

What is it with the bloody "have a cookie thing"? You need to prove you are old and wise and I am a child? Trust me, what I forgot, you will never know, besides, I like chocolate mousse cake.

Again - this isn't about programming. It's a design issue.
And I may not be entirely happy about it, either. But that's hardly cause for name-calling. ------------------------------------------- "My main griveance with the Caldari state was that once I had finished my work for them, they wanted me dead."

What i would have liked more is when there's some kind of sensor implemented, which increases the decloaking range to 10km. (RP based explanation)
All stationary structures (Stations, Gates, Sent Guns, ...) could be fitted with one, forcing anything that comes near one of these objects to decloak at once. Ships would have the possibility to fit a module, that increases the range from 500m to 10km aswell, but like the cloaker need to spare a slot for it.
Asteroids, cans and alike obviously are dead objects and can not be responsible for a decloaking-field.
So the cloaking would have been useful, but can not be used to camp at gates for example..or at least not close. Miners in belts should if they want to be safe fit a anti-cloaking device...
Honestly i still think that there might have been ugly exploits with the current modules stats, but just beefing up the decloaking range from ANY object is a bit to over-reacted and a poor solution, which can only be meant to be a temporary solution. I defenitly agree, it' easier to edit one value in a database table (500m to 10km), then to enter new code, but i think this should not be final, how cloaks are handled in this game.
But it's just my oppinion

Etom Voke. All your own fault. If you skill up for a device which could really unbalance the game if it is too powerful, you should wait one or two patches before deciding, if you want to spent the skillpoints for it. And tell me, were you ever involved in a major (100000+ lines of code) softwareproject? If not, start programming and learn that "just fix it" is not as easy as you think. Or go to another mmorpg and see how many bugs they have

Mimo no offence but your plan is poorly thought out, as I stated somewhere else and Im sure you will agree, Cloaking is for recon purposes.
Ie you jump into system and cloak. The gate is camped with enemies, you remain cloaked and gather intel of ships. You then slowly move towards gate, avoiding enemy vessels and uncloak and jump back through to your fleet. With this uber nerf or your gate scanning idea you will decloak as soon as you get within 10km of the gate and what a waste of time.
Yes I know you'd probably have mwd and yes I know you can get intel using the current 1 min jump cloak and yes I know lots and lots of other ways to get this same intel but as far as Im concerned (and Im sure if you rationally think about) what I described above should be a perfectly valid way to use Cloaking technology.
Agreed ?
So HMV consider Andy Williams and Dean Martin to be "easy listening" do they? Tell that to my mate Dave, he's been deaf for 20 years.
