Okay I really just have to expose this tactic which, I admit, is 100% legitimate in terms of being within the game mechanics, but gets a Big, Fat LOL Grow Some Nads! in my book.
So for the past 2 months or so, up until about 2 weeks ago, we (The Pirate Syndicate) had been wreaking havoc on UNICORN forces. Our kill ratio was about 10 to 1. Haa, we even were able to take down 2 or 3 battleships with only a couple frigs. Anyway, then, as is expected, they smartened up and stopped feeding us straggling noobs in battleships.
UNICORN then moved their entire industrial fleet out of 0.0 and back into empire, or somewhere. Everlasting Vendetta went from 244 members down to a record low of 166. Some of their top pvpers (Synapse, Blue Velvet, etc.) left to join Evolution. Recently a new splinter corp was created called Equilibrium, people who we have been fighting down in the Vale for the past couple months.
So they wizen up. This is expected, you can only lose so many ships, get your head stomped on so many times, before you smarten up and learn to punch back. So the past 2 weeks have been much more of an even brawl, some losses on their side, some losses on ours. Very recently (the past week or so), what is left of UNICORN (the non-Millennium people - MLM stay hidden up at JZV) moved down to FDZ4-A and we have been having fun watching each other from safespots (UNICORN won't fight unless they have about 2 to 1 odds in their favor - this is around the point we decide that it isn't worth losing ships to them if they want to be wusses).
Which brings us to tonight. Tonight's affair with UNICORN alliance was possibly the lamest, most cowardly thing I have EVER seen. What they resorted to was definitely the lamest thing, surpassing anything the NVA or PA or FU or any other force I've fought against has EVER done.
So we are sitting outside the NPC society of conscious thought moon six station in FDZ4-A. We have about 8 battleships and a couple frigs. Once again we are waiting for AGES (literally hours) for these guys to scout us from their 300km bookmarks. Lets not forget to mention that they outnumber us - they've got about 12 battleships, outnumbering us by at least 1.5 to 1 which is fleet standard (just like their 4 warp core stabilizers and 300km range). LOL.
Back to tonight. After killing Penance about 50 times (their disposable bioslag clone), they finally decide to warp in. They had about 12 battleships. Then comes the kicker! EVERY SINGLE ONE OF THEM had sensor dampeners fitted to their ship! WHAT FUN! None of us could target - literally every single battleship in their formation was running dampeners and a few had target jammers.
So we're all basically asking ourselves what the hell are we supposed to do against this? So we start heading away from their fleet and we basically get to stare at each other while they waste ammo against us. The best part was that they had 5 or 6 frigates that wouldn't come near us! If their frig pilots grew some testes they might have scored a couple kills, but they never came within 70km, the few times they did soon as u squint in their direction they warp off.
Anyway the situation ended with them warping away and us warping to safespot, frustrated, most of us logging. No capital ship kills for either side. I have never in my Eve career (about a year, a month, and a bit) seen something as cowardly as this lame little tactic they pulled on us. It would be one thing if they had an inferior force and pulled something like this, it is quite another when they significantly outnumber us and resort to this kind of lameness.
The crux of it is that if they will find themselves safespotted or camping forever without a fight. Honestly I am not interested in fighting a foe in a straight-up fleet battle if they are gonna "exploit" overpowered modules like this. Sensor dampeners, I am sure everyone agrees, are way overpowered and most people aren't lame enough to pull the kind of crap we saw tonight.
UNICORN folks, if you are wondering, we aren't going anywhere. Our guys (former M3G4, BioMass, Paladins, etc.) have made our home in the Vale of the Silent and Geminate since we started Eve last summer and many from beta. We aren't leaving anytime soon. We all love a good fleet engagement but if you are gonna pull this kind of lameness you won't get them from us - we will simply hang out and prevent you from doing anything constructive.
You can camp your safespots and stations but you won't get a fight out of me and I am sure most of our guys feel the same way, if you resort to these kind of ridiculous tactics. UNICORN, you guys really have sunk to the lowest levels of cowardice I've ever seen.

Your distortion of the truth, prior to the fight amazes me.
Regarding the fight, while I wasn't there, we were receiving word that you outnumbered them for the majority of the night.
and......well, my ***** is larger than yours.
Rumors of my clones death are greatly exaggerated. But I am still INACTIVE

Erdric, why don't you come out of empire space and see how things are done in 0.0 before commenting where your comments aren't appreciated, deserved, or legitimate. For your info they warped out first, and also for your info, it's either go to safespot and log or log in the station which is a no-no in 0.0.
So how about you pull out your UNICORN main and put away the alt poster and explain what you morons were thinking tonight?

Edited by: Recluse Viramor on 06/07/2004 02:08:45 ROFL, quite amusing. Propaganda at its best, perhaps even better than the former Iraqi information minister.
Members have dropped that far because of a recent restructuring and a removing of inactive members. Indeed a few members left, but any corp this large loses a few members regularly.
Keep whining, this post only proves that Unicor is succeeding.
PS, only 2 of our ships had any dampeners

Yuki Li,
What I find funny is that you guys actually think we do anything productive to begin with. All we do is find things to blow up. I realize that when you guys moved to FDZ4-A you figured you'd be disrupting our vast mining and industrial complex that we had going on over here, but it simply isn't true. LOL.
Very few of us mine, those that do you really haven't seen much of. All we ever do is find people to kill for fun, because its fun. Thinking you are succeeding because you are preventing our phantom mining forces from working? there was none to begin with, which is the funniest part of the whole thing.

heh, looks like UNICORN is just applying the same tactics that you guys use. I remember the 1st day of war vs PA, PA moved quite big fleet as soon as the war was up and took station in ZLZ. We gathered what we could (it was at some odd hours) and had a nice fight down there.
At the same time TPS sees that we are blobbing down there and what not, and moves north to gank miners. Can't blame them for that, I'd do the same. As its getting quite late for US ppl, PA starts logging off and moving out, so we move north. When TPS sees that they got fleet fight, they disperse, safespot, smacktalk for 15 mins or so, then log off.
However, I guess UNICORN still has fun, fighting TPS is a great way to introduce new players to pvp, as you previously stated (newbs in battleships). While in EV, I had quite some fun, most fun was the "ambush" incident when limpy bint's alt scouted 6-7 of us chaining NPCs. After scouting for like 15 mins, plutus buzzed off, and soon we noticed blob moving from FDZ. Since we figured we have enough ammo to both chain npcs and eventually engage, we stayed put. Then what do you know, locals fills up, and we have multiple battleships warping into our belt (stardog, limpy, lilan, etc), only problem is, they warp in right on top of the BS spawn. NPCs do the scrambling for us, and we simply assist
Day after it was claimed that we moved (we were hugging the same rock as when scouted), or that spawn has gotten bigger, or what not.
Needless to say, a public request was made to High Council of Everlasting Vendetta to set +10 standings to Guristas, don't know if N'Fran actually did.
Also it is funny to see that "carebear" UNICORN alliance is moving to your home system and basing their carebear activities there. It's as if Techell moved to PF-346 to mine there. Good luck, and have fun, UNICORN. --

heh, looks like UNICORN is just applying the same tactics that you guys use.

So then those cruisers were just humping each other in the asteroid belt when i warped in?
I didn't think one could run so fast with their pants around their legs.
i wonder what was in the drop cans i blew up then... sweeties? Of course. TPS HAS NO MINERS! THATD BE WRONG CAUSE THEYRE LIKE PIRATES AND STUFF AND OMG YOU CAREBEAR WTF HYPOCRIT.
You're oh so funny. Can we be friends? You make Yuki laugh :)
At no point was it suggested that you have an intricate network of miners haulers and builders, but really, productivity in a game can be translated into -fun-. If you enjoy hanging around to stop our combat fleets mining, which, funnily enough, they don't. Those are guns. No really. Then have a fun time creating an ass groove in your chair.

Cao Cao is complaining because we employed a tactic against him and his friends that worked very well on our side and shut their ability to combat us back down?
Am I the only one not seeing the point here? Edited by: RollinDutchMasters on 06/07/2004 02:53:52 New rules then.
Ewar will be illegal. Bringing more than 1 battleship per side will be illegal. Using more than 1 gun or launcher on a battleship will be illegal. Drones will be legal, but only light drones. No non-noob frigates. No cruisers with midslots, because they might be ewar cruisers.
Should a violation of the new rules occur, the offending party will be cried about on the forums. Repeated 'omgwtf u l4m3!' posts will be given bonus 'battleship kill points', which can be redeemed for fictitious battleship kills on the forums.
Good luck in the new fighting style, TPS

I dun see it as a waste of time, while we sit around safe spotting up or watching you do the same or fighting, whatever it is we do there in FDZ keeps you out of the rest of our perspective corps operations, Thus our miners still mine, our refiners still refine, our producers still produce. We are the combat pilots of our corps, it's our job to sit around camping a station/gate locking the baddies into an area and tell each other jokes to keep us awake.
Now can someone please hook me up with another free keg..I hate charging for the beer in local these days :)

I never thought I would ever get to use this little phrase outside of my legal practice: Res Ipsa Loquitur.
The thing speaks for itself. You have your high-minded opinions about what took place tonight, we have ours. Let's let everyone else judge for themselves. I never claimed it was an exploit, or outside the game mechanics. I simply claim it is cowardly and the epitome of lame.

You guys could arrange to do a 10 on 10. Your ten best vs there ten best. Winner leaves the region. It'd be a great publicity stunt and i'd love to see the fraps footage from it.
You could even role play it... then again I could just be suggesting something really stupid that neither side would want to participate in...

I would agree to such a fight in a split second! That would be the coolest thing ever - except for the part about loser leaves the region. As stated before, we have lived in the Vale and in Geminate for over a year, we aren't about to take off now .
A 10 vs. 10 would be sooo phat though, everyone insures their ships and the rules would be nobody is allowed to warp out. Fight to the death, on gentleman's honor. That would be totally fking wicked cool, everyone on our side would certainly LOVE that kind of opportunity.
I am also 100% positive that UNICOR would never ever agree to it.

To the latter, "When a foe is defeated, but will not admit it, he calls his enemy a coward for defeating, and frequently makes claims of his own grandure in the process" -******, Mien Kompf (I think I spelled it right, and hoe the translation is correct)

Gah - what a horrible misuse of Res Ipsa Loquitur....
Please elaborate as to how that - HIGHLY SPECIFIC - piece of legalese relates in any way to what you've been saying?

It certainly isn't a misuse of the term. Res ipsa loquitur is a legal doctrine where you don't have to establish two elements of negligence in order to prove negligence - you don't have to establish duty or breach. The reason? Because what happened is so egregious that such a thing would NEVER happen in the absence of negligence. Thus the law infers a duty and a breach of duty. In essence, what the doctrine says is that "the fact this event occurred is, in and of itself, proof of negligence."
So . . . what I am saying here is that this completely lame tactic is, without further discussion, proof of UNICORN's cowardice (or at least the lamers that took part in it tonight). The thing speaks for itself. Res ipsa loquitur.
Okay thanks for playing now go home please.
EDIT: an example of real world res ipsa loquitur would be a situation where an automobile is driving down the road when the gas tank spontaneously combusts, killing the occupants. When the next of kin sue for wrongful death, they won't be required to articulate that the car manufacturer had a duty to make a safe gas tank, nor will they be required to show exactly how the gas tank exploded, what went wrong, or where the defect in the thing was. Since gas tanks don't usually explode in the absence of negligence, the res ipsa loquitur doctrine would apply, and the car manufacturer would lose.

Ding ding ding! 2 more points to Cao Cao for the nice use of 'lamers'.
You can now claim:
Darcon: Raven Mechanical Death: Scorpion
This brings the total for tonights battle up to 5-2 in your favor... I guess we'd best do some mining to make up for the losses youve infliced on us.

It's truly amazing; these forums never change
You Suck! Your tactics suck! We Pwnd you! Doh! You're pirates! You're cowards! We came to fight and you dampened our ass so we couldn't kick your butts! We pwned you! Doh! You suck! You're n00bs got smarter! Doh1 You suck! Yer mutha sucks! And she wore combat boots! And had a boob job at 65! And yer lame! And..... And..... And.... I'm a child.
Complain to CCP about exploits
Complain within your corp if you don't like the way things are going
Complain to your "partner" if your computer craps out.
Otherwise, just play the game to have fun folks! Let go of the forum spaz outs
I can see that this thread has plenty of thrash from pirates and old friends, but what it really lacks is content. Save the "pwnd" "lame" "you suck" and just play the game! These rantings serve no one and nothing.
CCP I thought you had a better handle on these threads...
Cao Cao - no thrash intended bro, but perhaps if you made your fun in the game less dependent on what other's do, you'd enjoy your evenings a bit more

This coming from old fe guys, who are the absolute king of the- 25 scorps sitting at 200km running ecm, is kinda funny.
In the end though, I agree with cao cao. Ecm spoils a lot of decent fights, and is over powered, dampers especially.
If they completely took ecm and ew stuff out of the game tomorrow, I wouldn't shed a tear.
Evolution..... Just when you thought you were winning.

We have waited days for a decent battle, and it looked like we were gonna get one until the bull**** tonight. Oh well.
Like I said earlier, it would be one thing if they were outnumbered and used something like this to gain an edge. However they had vastly superior numbers and they still felt they had to be the Kings of Cheap. Either way, it was just dumb, nobody lost ships, and they got to sit longer at safespots. Whoop-dee-doo.
Cao
EDIT: as some UNICORN tweed said above, yes we did outnumber you (slightly) for most of the night. Funny that we never saw any of you - oh yeah, except for Zarthanon in his vigil (or whatever he uses) at the UNICORN regulated 300km.

Its UNICOR NOT UNICORN
Taken from the May 29th 2003 Devchat at EveGate . <Muaddid> Q: When will sentry gun and station and similar construction pods be introduced on the market? <Hellmar> we have various player owned entities already implemented. Sentry guns, power/shield generators, field repair mini-stations, mobile refineries. We are still working out the last tidbits of how they can be over taken, what is the penalty of having a sentry gun kill a n00b etc. and we have been a bit busy with plugging the holes that people have found.I would say that you'd start to see these items on the market in about 2-3 weeks, very expensive to begin with |

RollinDutchMaster,
I never thought I would ever get to use this little phrase outside of my legal practice: Res Ipsa Loquitur.
RES IPSA LOQUITUR - Lat. "the thing speaks for itself." Refers to situations when it's assumed that a person's injury was caused by the negligent action of another party because the accident was the sort that wouldn't occur unless someone was negligent.<>
The only negligent action I see in what happen is that even thought you claim playing over a year you are handicap to learn about simple practice of using FoF missiles.

Edited by: Squeee on 06/07/2004 13:07:30 All I can say is wow, your vast usage of UNICORN has really hurt my feelings. I mean heck I might as well up and leave EV now. I mean why would you say such a thing? Do we not have feelings too, do we not bleed when you call us names? I know I do, and I personally will not log into EVE for weeks until I get over this horrific slandering you have dished out. I beg of you Cow Cow, stop now. Please stop, before you drive off all of the EV and UNICOR members. For it is my stern belief that your mass murder of 18 battleships at the same time vs you, an ibis and a potato gun 2 months ago is ripping us apart still to this day. No wait, was that you trying to escape FDZ in a shuttle today? Yes, it was. Oh and look it was destroyed. I feel the life coming back to me. I know you have a dom in station, you tried to undock in it earlier, and you probably have a raven too. But wait, 0 rats, not in an ibis, within 15+ jumps to help you. Guess you got tired of sitting in that station all alone. Well farewell to you and your pod, suppose I will continue to fight.
Get over yourself my friend and tell the truth. You are just ticked that the one time you were able to free enough of your friends from the pound in a week you wern't able to easily gank everyone in local. Now I am not saying you are using an exploit... but it seems every time we engage ya'll every sigle one of your pilots has turrets and/or missle launchers. I could understand one or two, but the "coincidence" that you all have them is just to much for me to overlook.

UNICORE guys are funny, rollingdutch is all like "we used Ewar we pwnd j00" if your going to use Sensor dampners, at least USE your advantage!
If your going to force us into close quarters battle, atleast have some blasterthrons at the ready, the problem is u dampen us, then sit there at 100km+ and spam missiles at us,with no way of holding us there, yes we warped out and back in, but do you seriously think we just sit there an let your 60 paradise cruise missiles hit us,with no way of shooting back? ermm nope... your using tactitcs your think will give you ZERO losses, sorry to say this guys, your gonna have to loose your ships at some point.
This thread has got a bit flame infested, but most old school PVP'rs will agree, sensor dampners are lame mmkay! ive been in many fights in my eve career ive fought some of the best PVP'ers in the game KIA,EVOL,M0o just to name a few, and never in all thos fights did anyone use Sensor damps! its kinda like an un written rule of PVP everyone knows this module is teh lame and i dont even know why its still unchanged, id actually forgotten it existed untill yesterday!
And ProphetGuru, yes we used ECM but we never used Dampners! i dont mind ECM, as if your fitted right u can counter, but dampners are teh sux!
i kindawish cao hadnt started this thread coz it always ends up the same, you have your opinion we have ours, i think it was a leagal but dumb tactic, you think it was teh pwn, whoopee

Well, even though i dont like ca0 ca0... i have to agree(if its the truth he speaks)...
Warping in at range with ECM ships, dampening ur targets so they cant fire back, WITHOUT sending ur frigs in to scramble targets is kinda a waste...
Nothing better than than gang warping in at 15k to attack multiple targets while getting ur ECM to spot jam at a 60km warping.... takes skill and organisation.. and is good fun, and we all play for fun.
But, always 2 sides to every story.

well sensor dampners are way overpowered, every1 agrees with that it seems. but, like you TPS guys say over and over UNICOR(N) are a bunch of n00bs in battleships (doesnt make it true btw). so they finally discover a module that gives them a BIG advantage over you, now the 2nd part of this 'lesson' is all the BULL**** that they have to put up with for using them i know most pilots in TPS have vast PvP experience, especially compared to UNICOR, which would lead me to believe any fight with even (ish) numbers are always going to be in the TPS' advantage. The worst thing you could have done is come **** and moan about it in the public forums and make both sides look foolish. infact UNICOR will get credit for using tactics against a more experienced foe and winning the day (even tho no kills which makes it a kinda hollow victory)
as for the mention of the corp: Equilibria. we are all EX-EV yes, but we have NO affilation with them what-so-ever now.
excuse all the typos and spelling mistakes.... im an idiot and im a lazy one too ------------------------------------------- Voted "Best" |

All the people who benefited from when they controlled the area have mostly left.
They been replaced by people who seem under some impression that there camping of fdz is effecting us when most of us are active there no where to be seen. When we go to bed they sit around kidding them selves there having some impact.
Just to add i think this thread is pretty lame there tatic last night did work.
TPS is now basically in a position where we can do anything we want be it mine npc hunt and use the conquerable stations.
We beaten the fight out of unicor they seem to be content with sitting in fdz chewing the fat leave em there.
If Unicor choose to stay or go does not really bother me they stopped being a threat in this region a while ago.
This thread is lame makes us look bad there tatic did work and congratz to them on employing it. |

I dont like the tactic they used, warping at range and dampen the enemy is teh sux imo.
My personal opinion is that battles should be about close range fights, under 40+ if its a lot of ships involved and that the battle is won because of frigates that manage to stay alive being in the middle of the enemy fleet escaping bullets and missiles and not to mention drones and smartbombs so that the frig pilots can warp scramble the targets so that , if no one is ever locked down from warping NO KILLS will ever accure in combat.
A battle without any losses is not a battle but an enduranse race, who will get outbore the enemy wins though, its still lame a fick.
Just my opinion and my opinion is LAW. Spawn of the Devil

The only solution is to have CCP nerf the sensor dampeners and that will only happen as history shows, if everyone who fights use them and i mean everyone.
I'l bet that will even make TomB to come back from his vacation and slam it with da nerf bact.
So MOUNT the sensor dampeners!!!!!!111111

Warping in at range with ECM ships, dampening ur targets so they cant fire back, WITHOUT sending ur frigs in to scramble targets is kinda a waste...
Nothing better than than gang warping in at 15k to attack multiple targets while getting ur ECM to spot jam at a 60km warping.... takes skill and organisation.. and is good fun, and we all play for fun.
But, always 2 sides to every story.
d solo.
This depends, if you are the attacking force I would agree with you. But using the tactic to defend from attack seems like a good idea. Sure wont score kills but does stop the attack.
As for sensor damps, yeah they are overpowered. But does that mean people can demand that their opponents only use n00bships because the other ships are overpowered compared to the mighty n00bship?

ya i love close range fights. our fight last night was about 45-55km at the start. (not to bad) but t3h dampners went into effect...
none of their frigs came near us. it was basically a waste
Most of us will agree that Dampners Are way to overpowered. and need a famous CCP Nerf bat smack :D
however it was a great but lame tatic on their part. it made us a bit mad and we were waiting a good time for a fight and we got that and they didnt lose any ships minus a few frigs but of course they couldnt have killed our ships either.
oh well there is always next time. we have lots of time on our hands :D

I don't normally post on these things, but just for the record:
Our fleet warp was engaged at two distances, some at 30k to the station, some at 40k. Upon arrival the enemy force showed on my scanner (I went in at 30k) at 60k to 70k and were sitting just about 90 degrees to our right on the solar plane. As the fight progressed, enemy battleships left and returned as they could, each time farther and farther away from the station as they seemed to be warping back to their group. It would also seem that during the fight, the enemy forces continued to move away from the station at normal speed. By the time we got bored with wasting missiles and withdrew to get more beer, our forces were still spread around the station at about the same distance they came in, while enemy forces were in a nice tight formation...150-170k from the station.
So, for the record, if "warping in at distance" of 30k from the station and staying there throughout the fight is somehow cheating, well, guilty as charged. Nobody came here to these boards and *****ed about your 280k away, BB boosted damping scorp back at that fight in LS. But what the hell, it did save Cao^2 from losing yet another Raven to us.
Though I won't go into ship loadouts, I will say this: No order was given to load up on dampers. The majority of our ewar ships were doing multispec jammers. If you wanted really wanted to fight, I'm not sure why you continued to move away. We both lacked enough warp scrambling capability, and coupled with the distance neither of us gained a significant kill.
On the bright side, the lag was not too bad for a 25ish ship fight.

I have to admit our fleet did gradually move further away, but this was due to warping back to gang members, who had also warped back ect,ect.. who wants to warp back to the station if your going to be high and dry alone, i think msot people use the warp to gang member, its normally guaranteed to get you back in the fight. and as for moving away at normal speed, this is routine for most fights, u start moving to a planet or moon, so u can stay in the fight til lthe last second then u can warp instantly!

I am sure you pirates would rather have "close-in" fights where your advantage in "trained skills" gives you an extremely large advantage over "noobs". Nothing like having the fight your way is there? I see the same thing from you guys all the time. You over-power players with your skills, advantage in modules, advantage in numbers/ships and when things don't go your way everyone else is "coward", "lucky", "using unfair tactics", etc, etc.

Well lets see here TPS had 11 BS and a few frigs to are 9 BS and yes we had about 4 frigs you still out number us in Fire Power and yet you wine with you cheese about EWarfare. Let me just say this that every major military power in the world uses Ewarfare. Why you ask.
To do what we did to you, shut you down. That is what Ewarfare is all about to shut down your enemy. I was in the military and will tell you that the better your Ewarfare is the better your chances of winning the war.
Now no sence in crying about it if you wanted war your getting it! War is not pretty and certainly doesn't score any brownie points in my book.
I didn't complan when TPS used Ewarfare in LS-JEP on many occations thats part of the game either you us it or you get killed.
As far as last night you out numbered us in local you had more BS and you sit here and wine on the forums cause you couldn't hit the broad side of a barn last night!!! (offers a slice of cheese).
Ewarfare is effective and if you don't use it well you firgure it out!

And to say our frigates have no 'testes' as you say...LOL. We've been killing you guys all week in about any way imaginable. Then to say that we 'don't' have the 'testes' to warp scramble the BS's? LOL....how do you think we've been smoking your BS's this past week? Have you been self-destructing? Man, you guys are lamers.....I thought you had more sense than this ridiculous post. And Cao Cao, we aren't leaving, so you might as well make a good bed in that station, or enjoy staring at the stars from that safe spot.

Just out of curiosity... but if they were using sensor dampeners, why didn't you just close the distance?
Or were you just scared at actually having to go toe to toe with the enemy?
You should take a lesson from the Glaswegians in the world.... get in close and start headbutting.
Or just go out and get drunk.
Either way, it's better than complaining about having to leave the field due to a tactical advantage displayed by the enemy.

Why is it hard go to close when you have 5-9 range?
What's wrong with < 5km range?
Perhaps you were set up with the usual long range fleet set up?
Or perhaps, just perhaps, you were scared to go in as you know this means heavy losses on both sides and weren't prepared to take the risk.
I'm not critiscing either side btw. I've been frustrated by ecm as much as I have utilised it frustratingly in battle.
I'm just curious about the thought process behind a post slating a legitimate tactic when there were alternatives available to the aggressing TPS.

LMAO Im just trying to picture how this would apply to a real world situation.
You know, in WW2 the british bombers would drop tons of chaff (thin aluminum stripes) to "blind" the german radar. If Cao Cao was there then I suspect this conversation would take place;
"Herr capitan, ze damm cowardly brits are cheating again. Zey are droping chaff again and it is blinding our radar! Without radar we can not direct our anti-aircraft fire and our fighters at them. If this goes on we might even lose the war! What a cowardly tactic! They should just let us WTFPWN them like we used to."

Omfg. This thread is out of control.
First off 425mm rails and 1,400mm howitzers don't work too well from 2km. Second, there is NO COUNTER MODULE to sensor dampeners. target jamming is one thing, there are modules that you can equip to counter that, but as everybody knows, you CANNOT counter sensor dampening!
Close the range while you are dampened? What, so u can have a 2 minute lock time? How is that supposed to help besides being in the kill zone while you can't lock the enemy? Obviously you people don't even know what these modules do and how its impossible to counter them - and NO, sensor boosters don't work, b/c they affect your lock time and lock range AFTER the effect of the dampener (so your 5km goes up to about 15km if u are using 3 sensor boosters).
DB Preacher,
If they had used that tactic and ganked half our fleet due to having frigs close and warp scramble (we couldn't even fking lock their frigs cuz of the dampening), I wouldn't say jack ****. However, the whole fight was a complete act of cowardice.
I just remember seeing this one interceptor, a crow, go from 75km and start approaching, I'd pop drones and he would run as fast as he could in the opposite direction. Eventually one of them decided to close the rest of the distance at which point I scored a lock (YAY), and he INSTANTLY warped out the second I opened fire.
Never once did they stay within 50km of our force for more than a few seconds, nobody was ever warp scrambled.
The point is, however, using close-range fighting DOESNT WORK AGAINST SENSOR DAMPENERS because it kills your lock time. Anyway I don't give a rat's ass anymore cuz UNICOR keeps proving over and over how cowardly they are.
PS..there are a few people boasting about fake kills in the past week or whatever. I have no clue about the total amount of the losses but it hasn't been much. Essentially we have been at a stalemate and its frustrating as hell, neither side scoring kills and its just boring staring at each other, while UNICOR waits til they have 2 to 1 advantage.
As for me in my shuttle last night, I took a trip up to empire to pick up an iteron mk5 full of 425mm rails, 1400mm howitzers, and other ammo modules and equipment. I got attacked by a thorax en route who was unable to kill my shuttle even tho I was afk. I came right back down, as Captain Tinrib can attest. And I've got a raven, a dominix, a megathron, and I'll be bringing down a scorpion pretty soon just to give y'all a heads-up so u can try to catch me.

I have you know.
My fleet of BOMBATHRONS have finally found a use.
Or how about a ravens loaded with F.O.F. in high slots.
Point is, there is ways to get around everything in the game, that's the beauty of it.
TPS have been deploying similar tactics to the F-E and Biomass of old... i.e. attack at distance, gank hard and get out before losing a ship.
UNICOR seem to have found a way around it. If you can't shoot them, you can't kill them from afar, so you are forced to retreat or close in (which you didn't want to do either).
Now you have to find a way around their tactics again.
That's the beauty of eve

Blizzaro,
If you fully read my most recent post you would notice that in it I addressed the fallacious argument that the counter to a sensor dampener is a sensor booster. It is true that if they have one sensor dampener on you, it is counterable with two sensor boosters. If they have three or four, however, you need about ten or eleven to counter it.
The way the penalties and bonuses add up is way in favor of the dampener. There is NO counter to dampeners, they are the cheapest module out there - and generally in pvp circles nobody uses them. That's why last night was so surprising and disturbing.

Sensor Dampeners are lame
However, i fear that this post may cause a revoloution for the no0b pvpers. I totally understand the frustration when fighting against these, i remember the day F-E went up to venal, jumped into a system, and the PA used the exact same tactic, sat 100km's from the gate, dampened us all, and spammed missiles. No ship kills for either side. The thing that concerns me about this, is if you let people know how lame it is, and how annoying.....They are gonna do it again and again.
Who knows, maybe next time they try it you'll have a dual mwd frigate to get close, all gang warp to them with blasters, and 425 auto cannons and proceed to wtf pwn them to high heaven.
This sounds like a last resort for the UNICORNS, once TPS learn to deal with this lame ass tactic.....YOUR ALL GONNA DIE!
GL guys, drink a shot of whoop ass from me, and pk those damn carebears!

LOL, you guys keep talking as if Unicor was 150km from the station perched dampening from afar.
The TRUTH is that we were all 30-40km from the STATION, It was TPS that was 150km+ away and continued moving further away during the battle, even Hans acknowledges that.
Say what you want, but these pitiful attempts at trying to misinform the populace of EVE are clear signs that Unicor is indeed gaining ground in the war.

Edited by: Ryfox on 06/07/2004 22:26:37 Edited by: Ryfox on 06/07/2004 22:25:41 So we are cowards are we, Hmmm, the only reason you dislike that tactic so much is because you never came up with it, well neither did we it was not preplanned it just happened that way, I have seen you and your alliance do the same kind of things. I seem to recall that Sensor Dampeners and Boosters are used in every fleet battle by everyone in the game so what we had a few more installed than you did too bad. Oh maybe we should check with you first to see that we have even numbers of missile lanchers and projectile weapons and so forth, jeeze we would not want to have 1 more cruse missile in space than you, that would be unfair and cowardly. So from now on we will announce in local, we are firing one cruise missile at x player, then we will hold all fire until you tell us in local what you are launching and at whom, then it will be our turn to launch something at you, we can go back and forth like this just to keep you happy and keep it fair, NOT
We are learning to use every trick in or out of the book and who is teaching us to do this, why it is your alliance, you equip 5 or 6 warp core stabs yourself, just so you can run away and then wine in local when we do the same thing. What I find real funny is that you consider jumping a miner or a hauler with 4 or 5 battleships a brave and honorable action or using dampeners on the gate guns in .2 to .4 space, we both use the game mechanics to the best of our abilities, who was the first player to use cloaking in FDZ, hmmm nice brave tactic stay cloaked till everyone gets bored and goes to do something else then you can gank a indy, you use the same insta docks and insta gates we use and the same 300 km bm from the station and gates we do, so quit trying to present yourself as a honorable player who only fights even odds and never ganks indys and miners you are a pirate you lie cheat and steal get use to the char you have built and play everyday.
Or how about this one for even odds you and your alliance so justly claim to play by. 2004.06.26 03:56:00

Lucky for them they brought that Merlin with them or I would have owned their asses, I would have cut them to pcs with my 5 uber miners and 8 drones. these are your brave and honorable comrads, lol, and then they have the nerve to demand I pay 15 million isk per day for the right to mine in the area. we will gank your members the same way you gank us, you have taught us well that you have no honor and deserve no pity from us either, so if you think we are gonna let your members roam around carefree and only fight when we are attacked and then only if you have the same amount of ships as us, guess again.
The fact is that we both use the same tactics, you do not engage in battle unless you have a larger force than us, it is the same way all over Eve, so get over it.
Whats wrong everything was fine until we started fighting back, you were so happy ganking our solo players with 4 or 5 battelships at a time, or coming up to LS-JEP with 20 guys when all we had was 4 or 5 guys in local, taking the station for 2 or 3 hours a day then when you saw we had raised a force of 1/2 your size you would go running back down to the NPC stations, oh you are upset we brought the fight to you, too bad.
You expect us to roll over and just let you kill us, well forget it, we are learning from you to use everything the game has to offer to fight back, we came from LS-JEP to FDZ4-A to kill you as many times as we can, to drive your pirating butts out of The Vale so it would be safe for people to travel and do as they please without having a bunch of griefers like your alliance camping the gates and killing haulers and miners or anyone who just happens to be passing by.
As far as your killing us 10 to 1, hmmm, can I have some of whatever it is you are smoking, it has got to be some real wicked stuff ROTHLMAO. If we were losing ships at that rate we would already be out of the region, o wait you are trying to gain support, to bring more people into your alliance, to make it appear that you are winning the battle, so they will come and have some fun ganking the poor Unicor members.

Ca0 Ca0, I think you like to see your name posted where everyone can see it. It must make you feel very important lecturing to everyone as to what "you" think is fair play? Who died and made you "GOD OF THE GAME" and who cares what you think? Who determins what is cowardly, legal play, cheat, exploit, etc? I am betting it is not you or anyone else who has posted on this subject. So why not just play the game and quit posturing like a Peacock in heat!

To summarise the important parts of this thread (and it is more appropriate in Ideas lab, or patch review, imo):
Remote Sensor Dampeners are lame, they need a nerf.
People will do anything to kill, or not be killed.

Spot on. I'd like to propose that you handle forum posting instead of Cao Cao, I dont know if I can read another novella of his.

Quote: So we're all basically asking ourselves what the hell are we supposed to do against this?
Here's an idea. Get an interceptor with 2x MWD, fly over to them, then warp your battleships to the inty. Boom, you're right up beside them, and it won't matter anymore that they have dampeners.

hmm this war will go on 4 ever.. How do u expect to win Cao ?? Have u surrounded them ?? Have u cut their ways to jumpgates...?? Have u seen that they don`t have any other office in the galaxy???because if they have they will recruit new players and have planty of stations..with the upcoming of EVE patch Shiva they will be able to build stations....My guess is that they already had made an alliance with other corp...and at you`re battle with them my guess that they expected other corp to join the fight..(watch out , they might surrender u ..u have only one base of operations),so while they were jamming u the other should crushed u....if that isn`t true they`re action was a little bit to rushed.->cowardly.. Anyway hope that u will reach an agreement in the end with UNICOR....or not...

the only conception of a fair fight for a member of the TPS is to gank slow ass industrials with 10+ battleships and then scream and beat themselves on the chest and call themself great warriors.
also isnt it kinda pathetic that the members of pirate corps in the TPS are among the most avid whiners on these forums? they whine about everything from heaven to hell as long as it doesnt fit their ideas or if they got spanked in some way.
wouldnt that make you head carebear whiner cao cao?
