Who needs programmers and designers when we got a legion of idiots critizising everything CCP does?

Actually I'd be surprised if Eve had less than 45,000 subscribers. Not 50,000, mind you - I'd expect a farly large press release when that hits. That's based on peak populations and experiences of % of players om at peak times in other MMO games, so while it might not be accurate it's as good as you'll get without a statement from CCP.

CCP rents a house to house their Iceland-side facilities. They also pay 30-odd employees, probably for about 5.5k (average) a month (wages and cost of living is insane in Iceland. We equal Japan). Then there's heating, food (I used to work in a supermarket where their chef shopped. $100 every week there), electricity and assorted bills.
In the UK, they maintain the servers. Beside the insane upgrades they just recently pulled, presumably for more than 400k alone, they are constantly maintaining, replacing and expanding the servers, not to mention the exuberant internet charges, the electricity costs, the staff placed there, and housing.
Then there comes marketing. I wouldn't be surprised if that alone costs something like 100-150k, even with the minimal marketing they do.
The rest goes into the pockets of the investors that put millions into the development of EVE.
----
Software development carries insane costs. Continued development, such as the development of EVE, costs even more. The average game budget is closing in on millions of dollars for 2-4 years of development. EVE took 4 years to get out of the door, and is still being developed, with even more staff than pre-launch.
Now please end yourself, kthinxbye.

Forgot to add that the income is slashed by at least one-third due to income/corporate/high-level trade tax, and as much as 40%, as I'm not really in on corporate taxation in Iceland. In a country with a welfare system and the most stupidly high taxes this side of Russia, I only fear the worst.

Greetings,
Personally, I don't mind paying for a game like this, when it is clear that CCP continues to try and improve an already amazing game. And like someone else said...in not so many words...sh*t cost money, nothing comes for free.
You can't please all the people all of the time, but they sure try. Kudos to CCP!
BTW...Where is that Republic Issue Tempest I asked for?
Regards, MrBinary

I'd be suprised if CCP made ANY money from this game TBH - They have said multiple times that it's more of a "labor of love" than a money making venture. As a customer for a year now i'm personally quite satisfied w/ EVE. There is no other game out there like EVE. NONE. So if you don't like it - i'll quote Sassinak - "UNPLUG YOUR KEYBOARD!!!"

Oh I forgot to add, I remember when i was in Beta for EVE we had a small discussion over the expenses of "Making" EVE. Thats right, this game didn't pop up over night, it took them some time to develop. The biggest thing i remember was some one in accounts talking about how they took a 6 million dollar loan from a bank to get this funded. Thats right a $6,000,000 - with all the zeroes.
Thats a crap load to pay back IMHO and then add on everything else that can be added on top.
Oh well........ I am back to play for a few more months -=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-
Came back cause I love you guys :P |
