Those games sell over a million of copies for the full price. The money they make from all those sells is used for the support. They also sell expansion packs, bringing in even more money. The patches they release are only to fix bugs and tune things, but dont add new content. Only a small amount of the people who bought WC3 play online and even less use the support, and the support really isnt that good for WC3.

Ask yourselves how many times you don't go out with your friends drinking beer cause of EVE? How many times you forgot to buy present for your gf because of EVE? And how much do you save on gas by not going to your parents 100+ km away, when they miss you and stuff? Well.. eve-online saves me money.. but it might be just me, because i'm an average asocial nerd;)
