About 52 hours for a LAN party and then in my sleep deprived state I thought it would be a good idea to head home, an hour-long drive, to get some sleep. Driving after weekend-long LAN parties is bad, m'kay?

I think my record is 6/7 days aided by lots of pepsi, no Coffee, food on a regular basis and alot of fresh air during daytime.
I slept for a full 3 days afterwards.

6 days. I tried out of boredom to see what would happen. At the 4th day your mind dies and you become a zombie. Was fun while it lasted, would do again if bored enough.
It's nothing personal. I just want your stuff, and more importantly the fun of the fight. |

Edited by: Finnroth on 16/11/2008 03:07:12 7 days it was for me...may sound stupid and i believe this much is even life threatening, but i drank about 50 Red bulls in that time. Back then i was about 17 of age i believe, no way i could do that today again, more than 48 hours would be close to impossible.
Edit: I have to agree with the poster above, after the first 3 days you go zombie - you feel close to no pain, run against closed doors, start to talk of thinks you normally would only think.

I've pulled an all nighter here or there. Just skipped a night of sleep when I was a teenager. 40 hours or so without sleep. I was a bit tired by the end but it never really hit me hard. Then again i never stayed awake much more then that. _______________

Edited by: Finnroth on 16/11/2008 04:25:13 After those 7 days i was driven back from the vacation in a bus - i even managed to stay awake the tour back home (i will never understand why), but as soon as i had to walk out of the bus to my parents car, i fell down and slept - the next thing i know was sunshine and a f*cking headache because of dehydration. It was the better part of the 7th day, but i couldn't have managed to stay awake much longer. 8 days tops.
11 days seems really *really* hard.
Edit: And i have to say, even though it's nice to think back, it's an experience i only want to make once in my life and never again.

At 4 days you lose rational sense of feeling (Heat mainly, some people find themselves colder easier) which is bearable to a degree, you also as noted above have other effects that are fairly non-hazardous when you are not just sitting not eating or doing, well anything.
But when it gets to the 7/8 days barrier, you will be completely without energy, fresh air does nothing, showers have no effect, food is (or was for me) tasteless. By now people are either going into hospital or realising sleep is a really good idea right now.
2 days is nothing. 3/4days is a bad idea, a full week is heavily not reccomended |

He's not the one who responded to a claim about what the military is NOW, by talking about what it might have been in the past. I don't see him as the idiot here. |

Edited by: Grahv Exitus on 16/11/2008 08:28:13 Longest for me was around 4 days when my daughter was born (Dec. '07). I missed sleep the night before she was born due to playing COD2 from midnight till 9am the next day then just saying **** it to going back to sleep. I missed sleep the next night due to my gf's water breaking minutes after laying down to go to sleep. Then the two nights after she was born keeping watch to make sure she was breathing when she slept. (We had a friend whose baby apparently died of SIDS, made me kinda nervous and still does, I lose a lot of sleep waking up periodically to check her breathing.)
I slept for close to 24 hours after that, but for some reason if I sleep for anything longer than 9-10 hours I get a ridiculous headache, and that time was no exception. I'd do it again if for the same reason, as in my mind it was worth the heavy toll on both my physical and mental health. Otherwise I'd say "get ****ed"

When I was younger (and before I fell ill with my heart condition) I would purposely go without sleep one day every month. This re-sets your body clock just nicely and makes you more mentally aware. The most ive been without sleep is just 6 days (5 nights). Not as much as some but a bit more than others. I cant give you exact details but suffice to say it involved a party, girls and illegal substances. What can I say? I was young, I was immortal and the girls were just damn easy These days I get by on about 5-6 hours sleep daily.

anyway @ OP, 40 hours during a heat wave.
Sweden, Finland, probably Norway & Denmark too, Germany, and I think Italy, France and Spain as well. So, you know, basically all of them except the Anglos.
This is one issue I could be wrong about though.
We don't call those who refuse military service draft dodgers though. Drafting is something the US does when it can't persuade more people into fighting. |

Longest for me must have been about 37 hours, when I was at Uni. Woke at 8, went to bed again about 9pm the next day. I had an essay to do (not even urgently; there was about 2 weeks left on the deadline) and really got stuck into it about 10pm. Decided not to break the flow and kept working on it until first draft was done (about 6am). Had a lecture at 9am so I decided to just sty up.
Was blinking knackered. ------

Yeah, while I was at uni I would sometimes only go to afternoon lectures, and sometimes only to early morning lectures. Confused the lecturers no end. Only go to afternoon : Bed "late", sleep through entire morning Only go to morning : Realise that the sun's just risen and I haven't gone to bed yet. Go to early lecture, then to bed. I went nocturnal for a couple of days at one point too, sleeping through the day and being awake during the night. Gave that one up due to difficulties going shopping.

On a regular basis I will be awake for 40+ hours, which is absolute crap as it's not out of pure choice. The most I have stayed awake for is about 84'ish hours and by the end of that I was a mess, think I slept for a solid 24 hours atleast after that.

So here is the thing, I know from real life events when you are occupied your brain does not care how much sleep you've had. The body will perform!
Now, if a human convinces themselves (lotsa computer nerds do, I am one too) if there is a reason to stay up, *check the forums one more time! set another watchlist in my rss feeder! check myspacefacebook once again!* the body will obey until shutdown happens, which is either lack of stimuli *nobody is posting...* or a biological function *fat boy cranked on pepsi cant hang with a warrior cranked on DESTROY*
In these cases it is easy to stay functional for upwards of 120+ hours, but the falloff becomes stupidly steep and basic function drops like you drank too much whiskey.
There are proven experiments where an individual can maintain indefinite capability with scheduled periodic micro-sleep. This pertained to the study of brain waves during sleep and the cycles in which they occur. most human beings have an average sleep cycle of 65-85 minutes to achieve REM sleep, which is proven to be most regenerative to the body.
If this exact cycle can be achieved one every so often, the body can function for multiple hours on one cycle of sleep, provided that it is guaranteed it's next cycle of rest.
This is a fact, as I and people I work with have functioned accurately over the course of 800 hours (about a month) can accomplish everything that is given to me and my team given we get our rest when the body needs a cycle. |

Went 2 nights w/o back in my time at uni. First night was an assignment, 2nd was out with friends, fell asleep late afternoon on day 3 and woke up evening the next day
I don't know if it is a sign of age, but while I could go a night without and sleep the night after (often do when travelling back from the US to the UK, can't sleep on the plane), I doubt I could go two now. I don't know how anyone here managed seven. Even after 3 days each minute must stretch and fatigue would be terrible, so to push 4 days beyond that point is super-human. I think if you're fit and healthy and are well rested when you first wake, you could probably go a lot longer than an unfit person. 'course caffeine must help -------------
