Since QR release I am having some problems playing EvE. Mostly trying to run two clients. (I used to be able to run 3 clients no problem)
Even with both clients docked in station, using market or fitting screen is tedious. Fitting screen takes 5-10 seconds to open, and just dragging and dropping modules is slow and jerky. LOTS of missed mouse click's. Slow loads after session change, ghost ships on overview, etc. etc. afk autopilot on client without focus is VERY slow. Seems that server isn't getting updates from the client status e.g. switch to the afk client, and find that I am warping back to a gate I have just jumped through, before continuing with autopilot route. Loss of connection will almost lock up my PC for 3-4 minutes (mouse pointer moves so slow it's almost impossible to position it accurately) eventually one client will return to logon screen, and the other (ExeFile.exe) needs to be terminated manually (Task Manager). Getting expensive in lost T2 drones (and a pain to replace them)
Now my PC is not of the highest calibre, but atm a new PC is out of the question. My PC Dell Precision WorkStation 360 Windows XP Pro SP 3 Intel P4 3.20GHz 1GB RAM 160GB SATA 7200rpm HD (around 16ms access time in test) ATI Sapphire RADEON X800XL EvE classic running in windowed mode with cach 'LOW', effects off, sound off.
I am seeing quite a high level of pagefaults (don't know how this compares to pre-QR), and am wondering about getting another gig of ram. EvE would be the only app I use to benefit from this, and money is tight at the moment so I don't want to fit more RAM if is not going to cure/improve the problem. Leaving one client in the background while continuing to play the other for a good period of time does not get better, so I wonder if RAM is making little difference and cpu is the bottleneck.
Anyone with similar experiences/solutions?

I have very similar problems, and my computer is quite similar, though i have more ram than you.
Suposidly there is a memory leak some were, this will be causeing the problem you are having mainly, expecialy with only 1gig of ram trying to run multiple accounts. There isnt really a way to fix the problem, untill ccp patch it(if they ever do!). Only sugestion I can think of is to try plug in an extra gig of ram, its cheap, will help most of your problems(well it will take longer to notice it!) as well as helping out with all other aspects of useing your computer.
Basicly theres nothing much you can do |

I can confirm to have especially those issues too, even running only one EVE client. I had this today even 2 hours after downtime (not really a player peak time) and my client running for just 1 hour (mainly being in a station and autopiloting from A to B). I didn't notice a memory leak on my client.

i have the same problem and its getting very annoying
if hes got it. another gig of ram might not help. im running a duel core and 2 gigs and ive got the issue. id say just try and run one client as much as you can and wait to see if CCP will fix any of these problems. |

After QR launch me and some of my corpmates have the same laggy problem. It feels like the game is trying to refresh something every 15-20sec or when you use the UI. Nomatter if im on POS fight or docked trading in station. I hope CCP will fix it soon. |

I am so angry because it seems that when the client is waiting for a response from the server the cpu usage hits to 100% for a few second (when using market for example) and even keyboard's volume wheel stops responding!

Running a Dell T7400 Workstation here with two Quad core Xeons and 8 gig of RAM.
Not sure what the problem is - Eve's running smoothly for me, even with MS Office on and BBC iPlayer downloading in the background. No lag or crashes here. Maybe it's your kit. |

As the majority of users are probably on XP with 2 gigs I'd say your 8 gigs is hiding the bad effects of the memory leak due to you not even coming close to maxing it out. For me a single client runs fine but adding additional clients quickly drops performance to unresponsive levels. c2d e6750 1333fsb 2 gig ozc reaper ddr3 gf8800gt 512mb gddr3. That rig ran 5 classic clients at once before qr flawlessly even in a pvp setting or tag teaming missions.

Running an instance of Eve, Warhammer, Firefox, and Media Player here; no issues with anything.
Specs:
2x AMD Opteron 2.4ghz 8gb DDR RAM 512mb Geforce 9800 gtx (old video card took a crap, temporary replacement) 2x 250gb SATA Raptors in Raid 0 SoundBlaster Fatal1ty X-FI
Windows Vista Ultimate 64bit with Aero enabled, sidebar disabled
editx2: I did have an instance last night where eve was lagging pretty hard. Once I re-started the client, the lag went away, so, yea. there is a memory leak somewhere. |

Same here. We discussed it in fleet today and a few of us were reporting that it felt like it slowly built up over time — very leak-like. |

I'd say your best bet, as stated before in this thread, would be RAM.
I've got 3 gigs of RAM on a laptop, running a classic client with settings turned pretty low, and I haven't experienced any out of the ordinary lag problems
It may be your internet service provider as well.

Today I experienced the worst lag I have ever encountered in Eve (excluding big fleets). Opening windows, fitting, market, assets, it all took 5-8 seconds. It was the same in every region and every system no matter how many people in local. It felt like my every action was delayed and at first I thought it was my ISP messing around. Apparently not if others are having problems as well.

Thanks for feedback, it's appreciated.
At least I now know that it is highly unlikely that the bulk of the problem is at my end.
Should have stated in my original post that I have a decent internet connection (only after several weeks of persistant complaints to my ISP) 9hops averaging around 15ms. Date/Time: 15/11/2008 21:53:54 to 15/11/2008 21:44:42 Hop Sent Err PL% Min Max Avg Host Name / [IP] 2 20 0 0.0 5 20 8 [10.98.252.1] 3 20 0 0.0 6 12 7 nrth-t2cam1-b-v108.network.virginmedia.net [213.104.142.177] 4 20 0 0.0 6 44 11 nrth-t3core-1b-ge-012-0.network.virginmedia.net [195.182.178.209] 5 20 0 0.0 5 15 8 nth-bb-b-so-330-0.network.virginmedia.net [212.43.162.241] 6 20 0 0.0 8 42 13 tele-ic-1-as0-0.network.virginmedia.net [62.253.184.2] 7 20 0 0.0 7 14 10 ldn-b4-link.telia.net [213.248.70.29] 8 20 0 0.0 10 218 31 ccp-ic-124901-ldn-thon-s2.c.telia.net [213.248.90.90] 9 20 0 0.0 10 32 15 [87.237.38.200] so I'm pretty sure that's not the problem.
Sounds pretty much like although I could do with another gig of ram the main problem is eally down to CCP and I just have to hope that they recognise it, and are working on a fix. Unfortunately it's really making EvE not fun atm so fingers crossed they get it sorted soon.

Jeez.. i started playing EVE on my wifes system (which is very compairable to your own by the way) jus could not do it! dont even know how you manage to run multiple clients on that single core CPU. Extra ram will NOT help you, i went that route along with an updated card (ASUS 8600GT 512mb) this failed miserably. I found that EVE was more of a CPU bound game than GPU, try a dual core.. THIS WORKS GREAT! also, throw in 2-4 gigs of decent DDR2, however.. since the deployment of Quantum Rise there has been some pretty crappy lag do to a BAD memory leak with the client. |

Edited by: Roy Batty68 on 15/11/2008 23:39:54 For quite awhile now, if you are playing in window mode you can minimize then restore the eve client to reduce the amount of memory it's hogging back to a decent level. For instance, mine was up to almost 500 meg a few minutes ago, minimized it and brought it back up and the mem usage went back down to about 152 meg.
What's this have to do with the price of pistachios in phuket? Probably not a whole hell of alot. However, just thought I would throw it out there with the thought that maybe someone could use it as a work-around until a real fix comes along.
ps. No, I'm not having these problems myself. I run a premium client and a classic client dual screened on a 3 year old computer with a 7600 GT with no issues to speak of. edit: And I only have 2gig of ram...

Not EVERYONE runs DDR2/DDR3, you know. And yes, my computer was top[-of-the-line - 6 years ago :(

Same here, session changes takes ages starting with "just" a few second at start too 10+ seconds when playing longer. My ship dissapears and sometimes other ships, gates and stations as well up to the fact that I can not dock anymore. Also when using stargates it seems the server handles me as if I disconnected during the session change as I am 1000000km away from the gate pretty often.

whell, i'm sitting in station in sinq and the game is suprisingly quick, whilst writing this. proccessor reporting 14, ram at 40 percent, on the sidebar. although last ninght i did a couple of 20 jump runs and had a bit of 'lag', ?, i cant say it was that bad an experience. although i am not impressed with the 'bandwidth of my '3' usb modem thing all was fine there, just. i found delays in assets, not isk, and posssibly a cargo load missing after being reprocessed and refining a iterion, 10,000 units of ore. where my zydrine went is still a mystery. i cleared all eve caches lastnight, and am using lower level settings on premium eve package. the graphics settings change seemed to help a bit, but what of the games profile in graphics settings suite, that does not change anything.

I'm almost positive that QR has at least one memory leak. After about four hours the client really starts to lag noticably, especially when I'm browsing market tabs. Restarting the client fixes it, of course.
To the OP...are you using the Premium client? Because premium typically takes between 500 and 600mb of RAM, and you only have 1GB. Running two premiums will quickly put you in the pagefile, and pagefile "memory" is not a substitute for actual memory.
Regardless of what client you're running, I would highly recommend picking up another 1GB of RAM.
