Focused beams is where it's at with the Maller. You can get a good armor tank/cap setup that way. Actually crippled Weirda's maller to try to get a bunch of Heavies on there - but with the tracking, it seem like the Focused Mediums give better DOT (and against smaller targets too - which is good for wiping out escorts quickly). Usually have setup with 1xHeavy and 4xFocused mediums - this give you a lot of range/flexibility and the 1 heavy give you a little more 'umph' for the large rat in the pack.  -- Thread Killer

On my maller for agent running and some ratting I use
Hi: 2x Modulated Heavy Pulse, 3x Anode Heavy Pulse, 1x Small SB Med: 1x 10mn MWD, 2x Cap Recharger Lo: Med Armor Repairer II, 1x RCU, 4x PDU
Granted I only have engineering III and with engineering IV I could drop the RCU for another PDU, I would really really like to stick in some hardeners in there >.<

well you can run a medium armor repair and 2 hardeners forever, but I was using XeCl miners so they take a lot less cap then miner 2's, I didn't have to worry about rats hitting me at all.
But yeah, no missiles, no drones, no speed, a maller isn't very defensive because of those 3

That would put it more in line with the apoc, which can use drones and missles. Hardcore drone users would still use thoraxes, and Hardcore missle guys would still go for caldari, but you would have a lot more options on a maller with these changes, and you might actually start to see them used in PvP.

I disagree. I'd like to the Maller to stay true to it's original role - mean gun ship.
Give this ship a bit more grid and like a 10% dmg mod bonus. That'd make it feared right quick.

I disagree. I'd like to the Maller to stay true to it's original role - mean gun ship.
Give this ship a bit more grid and like a 10% dmg mod bonus. That'd make it feared right quick.

I gave up on my Maller months ago and as a result binned my attempts to just use Ammarrian ships. It just seemed weak and didnt seem at range to do damage rapidly enough. Trained Gallente and now fly Celestis and Vexors. I just found the Maller unable to handle big spawns. My skills are better and it maybe worth another look now mind u.
Maller needs in my mind at least a lil more power grid and id love to see a single missile slot like the Blood ncps have. Saying that i did get some nice long range 45km approx damage on ships using heavy beams and 250 rails with iron ammo. It just wasnt enough, fast enough to stop me from running once they got too close.

5% Armor per lvl would be a good secondary bonus for the Maller. It still should either get more grid or the medium laser turrets should be made less grid hungry.
The Arbitrator is fine except for its horrible speed. If it had eithe 40 more m/s base, or a 6th low slot it would be a much more balanced ship.
The Omen is stronger in nearly every category than the Arbitrator (even speed ). All it really needs is a bit more grid.
The Augoror is...cute.

There is only one thing a Maller needs: One skilled pilot.

Even with good skills you still need two tech II RCUs to reasonably fit a maller. And dual medium pulse weapons suck hard... very very hard...
And lets not forget two tech II RCUs cost around 12mil!!!  and with engineering V you get about 1404PG from it. Thats all fine and dandy, but you need energy grid upgrades V too which takes like 18days to train and engineering V which everyone has. ................. |
