How did YOU go about getting into it, without getting pirated yourself?
Did you have connections?

After growing bored of solo pirating against arcadia alliance I decided to contact a pirate corp and find out about joining up with them..
I flew to Space claimed by the then forces of valhalla and asked hitgirl if I could join her corp... and survived :P
Been pirating ever since.

Some members of MASS were bored playin' goody-goody and left to start a pirate corp, and they invited me. So I guess I kinda had connections with these people because I knew them all and had flown with them in the past. They knew my worth antecedant to my joining them, which is prolly why they invited me. 
But many pirate corps accept applicants with some experience, so just find out about who does what and apply where u want. Expect an interview, expect some questions about PVP, and have a good attitude. Pie Rats seem pretty friendly and (at least the ones I know) are more into fighting/ganking and less into the powertrips/politiks that many members of Carebear Corps relish.

forget what corp i was in at the time...but i came across a little c0w gate gank setup (nil8, tobruk, ertai, mursilis) and just didn't leave sat there with them and took pod shots and anything that came through. hours later asked if i could put in an app, they said yeah. the rest is history.

Got bored of mining and manufacturing. Tried some solo pvp in a black bird and liked it (wasnt very good but it was still fun).
Bumped into some old mates and before I knew it, I was pirating in a corp.
I have the body of a supermodel. I just can't remember where I left it... |

After you fight pirates for so long, its somewhat natural to talk to them.
I've been an uber carebear most of my natural eve life, what a huge mistake that was. =)
Most of the guys and girls I am with I've been with since eve's launch, some of the folks in the corp and in my alliance I've fought for a lonnnng time.
One thing about pirates, they aren't jerks in real life, contrary to other people's opinions, at least most of them aren't. Best group of people I've had the pleasure of working with, and besides, its hella fun. :)
