A while ago i heard about a way to make really deep safe spots by utilising a trick with probes - was wondering, does anyone know exactly how?

Don't think it works anymore, but you would use the longest range probe (Deep Space Observator or something) and scan for something you knew was in system. Its results were so crazily inaccurate that when you warped to it, it tended to be way off in a random deep space location.

You used to drop a fighter: send it to a gang mate. He sends it back as you dock.
The fighter de-spawned and reappeared in system around the 100au mark
Use deep probes to get a signal warp on in, scoop and BM
wether it still works any more: well try it.

never figured that one out...

A long time back there was the F11 trick but that got removed.
I also remember once suffering a CTD while I was in a pod. The emergency warp took over twenty minutes to complete -- (Sarcastic mission running veteran, 4+ years)

That's not going to do anything. Weeks of flying whatever howmany 100 m/s an anathema can do cloaked is only going to amount to around 1-2million kilometers. Which can easily be obtained in a few minutes by disconnecting and bookmarking your emergency warp point. ==================================================

Sort of. Everything can cloak. It's just a matter of whether you can control when it cloaks.

Safespots more than 999 AU from closest object in starsystem were declared exploit with new probe changes if I remember correct. There is still few of those around I assume unless they were erased by the same script that got rid of insts.
No longer in a region where I went thru trouble of making those so not sure if they still work. And yeah - you can no longer make them as far as I'm aware as probe warp accuracy deviations are a lot smaller (used to be tens of AU's on some probes).

4.37 light years away from our Sun.. 1 lightyear = 9,460,730,472,580.8 km (63,241.1 au)
4.37 x 63,241.1 = 276363.607 au

Edit Spelling.
You can't predict the direction you're going to go in an emergency warp. If you tried this, you wouldn't go far from where you started.
Also, IIRC, once you're in warp, it completes the warp before emergency warping again. So, since you are already in warp by the time you log back in, CTRL Q would take effect until you finished warping, you would effectively be emergency warping away from the same spot every time. I think CCP did this to prevent people escaping gate camps etc. People were emergency warping, logging back in and CTRL Q again so the next time they logged back in, they would warp back to their emergency warp SS next time instead of back to the gate camp.

I had a 4x MWD Typhoon back in the day, and I had to fill the low slots with power diags just to get the capacitor numbers high enough so that I could fire all 4 MWD's in rapid succession.
After firing all 4 it took over somewhere between 10 and 15 minutes to coast down to a speed that allowed me to maneuver once again :)

You are wrong on this,
I still use this to move items in low sec with a freighter. You need to time it right but all it takes is counting. I count to 15 secs then log back in, then Q out then 20 secs then warp to new gate.
CCP if you read this, please don't fix it as the idea of using a 3,500m ship compared to 900,000m to stock low sec wouldn't be fun. Hell, I wouldn't do it.

way back in the day when probes worked completely differently you could make deep safes with the system scanner probes (i forget the name now). "Deep Safe" meaning it was outside scan range of anyone dropping probes within the system or between objects, at the time this meant that the spot was almost completely impervious to scanning down. this doesn't work anymore. however some of these bookmarks are still around...
theres the occasional weird sh*t that occurs too....back circa summer 2006 i undocked a freighter in 0.0, something happened in the process or warping to a gate and the thing shot into warp, after a fair amount of time (enough to go get a beer) it finally stopped more than 200au from the nearest object, thats the deepest safe i've personally ever seen...rough on the cap too...
