Hello :-)
It's been three weeks since I bought my first interceptor (a Minmatar Claw) and climbed into it, and I felt the urge to share my thoughts on what a remarkable little ship it is. If this doesn't interest you, feel free to skip onto the next topic which is probably about Tempest loadout or some other such fascinating thing (for the record, I have never, and probably will never fly a BS).
If anyone's still reading...
First off, it's astonishingly fast! I can cheerfully get the Claw to go at 4171 m/s-1 at cruising speed straight-line speed, with just a single MWD and a couple of boosters. Waiting for docking & jumping is now a thing of the past. That alone makes it worth the training time & purchase price.
Combat is a little more murky. I had assumed that with the balance changes in targetting, the stupidly low signature radius (about 25m), combined with the speed, would make the interceptors able to avoid targetting by all but the most equally matched (ie: elite frigates) at any speed to be any use. So I could run blockades of BS's if I wanted to...
It doesn't seem to be quite working out that way!
I was also forced to turn back on a L3 agent kill mission when my armour started taking a beating (admittedly from two Guristas Destructors and a scheming Terrorist), but that might have been down to forgetting to take armour and shield modules (oops! ).
I haven't done any PVP in it yet, but I imagine it will be excellent for intercepting convoys (hence the name) of indys, making them almost like the EVE equivelant of B5's starfurys.
Mine is used mainly for agent running, and for that purpose, it makes its money back in no time simply because of the amazing speed & agility of the ship. I've trained up covert ops as well, but its going to be a while before I can do anything special with that what with me playing solo and cloaking devices costing what they do.
Anyway, those are my random ramblings. I'd like to hear other people's experiences of interceptors (or even covert ops ships?)...
-- Gotta sell my stuff...

Try out the raptor with 150mm protos, tech II small sheild booster, and a tech II 1mn AB.
This setup works fine with rats, either get to close to be hit or to far. AB keeps down sig radius.

Edited by: Liz Bathory on 18/07/2004 03:28:18 on my claw i run the following, and hunt anything in empire space, from 0.1 up
hi:- 3 125mm gatling autocannon, 1 standard launcher mid:- 10mn ab low:- small arour repairer, 2 cap power relays, and a rcu (needed to fit laucher, untill i get eng 5, then a pdu)
top speed, just over 2.5 kps, sustainable
it takes a lot of skill, and is vey short ranged but no turret cruier is ever a threat, and npc are no real threat
only thing that will suffer is your ammo stocks if you use this setup, be prepared to make your own ammo, from a bpo, or to buy it by the million rounds

Armour tanking = Cap Power Relay, you will get much more out of that than a PDU. Unless of course you need the 5% powergrid from the PDU.

Hellu Juniper,
Here's a nice little setup I use to take down things like Arch angel scouts and centurions (above takes alittle too long)
hi: 2*200mm scouts, 2*rockets launchers (thermal damage) med: YS-8 10 mn ab, stasis webifier low: 1 small armor repair II, 2 capa power relays, 1 micro aux power core.
Works fine :)

The Claw is an awesome ship for just about any use, PvP or PvE.
You can run it with 3 150mm AC's and 1 launcher or 2 launchers and 2 200mm AC's.
On both these setups I run 1 10mn AB, 1 Warpscrambler, 3 CPR's and 1 Power Diag.
Puts me at 114/115 CPU and 51/52 PG.
Of course I usually use it for PvP. I use a battleship to make money of NPC spawns.
But yea, you really need to be using a 10mn AB instead of a MWD. If you don't know the MWD screws your signature and cap/shield. Never use them if you might be going into combat.

Taranis is outstanding for my purposes. I've had nothing but good things to say about it as long as I've owned/flown it. ------------------------------------- // The views expressed by this poster are not the views of the poster's corporation, alliance, planet or television network... but they should be. |
