Public offerings have been in the game since literally the game existed for the most part. It was found that the sell forums did not facilitate the operation of them The Market Discussion seemed the next logical step CCP and the moderation team agreed in so far that despite the description, the activity was allowed to continue, even to the point where at times offerings were actually MOVED here from other locations.
These are facts, the fact that you ignore these facts is pretty obvious you're trolling here Taikun. If the rules were rules, we'd be seeing the threads locked left and right, and moved on a daily basis.
I;m sorry you're an idiot, the condition is fixable though. I've heard the first step is a sub cranial excision from the post anterior rear. |

Hhmmmm I agree with Taikun now I am thinking about it.
I always skip the IPO or bank posts here and focus on more actual market related stuff. If those posters leave, I wouldn't have to shift through all the data anymore for the topic I find relevant. ----------------- Destiny is not a matter of chance. It is a matter of choice. Much like how you suddenly want to impose your point of view on CCP by having things moved or reported. If you wanted to get rid of everyone talking about IPO's, then perhaps you should have used your vast knowledge of beating CCP into submission and supported the petition for a higher markets forum.
I think you overestimate your pull with CCP. I have a feeling they just get annoyed with trolls like yourselves and others on the forum and just moderate something quickly to make you happy. If you think CCP would suddenly listen to you, out of the thousands of players, you're grossly arrogant. CCP doesn't care about your point of view on where IPO discussions should take place. As Kazzac has mentioned, CCP's past actions have indicated this is the correct place for IPO discussion, I'm sorry you can't accept that.
And yes, you are a troll. No, it's not a lazy attempt to avoid a discussion. You seem to fail to read what I and others have pointed out to you - THIS IS THE PLACE FOR SECONDARY MARKET DISCUSSION. Until you can pull your weight and get CCP to create a secondary market forum, then do us a favor and quit trolling everything around here! For f's sake, I've never seen someone so arrogant and bullheaded to not realize what everyone's been trying to tell you.
Confuzer - blame that on CCP then, they've designated this as a hybrid forum for market and secondary market postings.

I have many issues with Taikun. I think this forum has now become overmoderated to the point of being completely dull.
However, I will point out that the information I read about this forum said nothing about 'secondary market', and the rules for the forum make no mention that I can see. I have always assumed this forum was for discussing all market activities.
I have long disliked the elitism of the forum. I have disliked the elitism even though I like many of the people accused of being elite. I am an arrogant person and have paid for that mistake more times than I can count.
As far as I am concerned, as long as the topics are about the market then I am okay with this forum. I feel that too many threads have been locked that were relevant, and a few that were not probably should have been locked.
Overall, the quality of MD forum posts has declined noticeably for me in the past three months. I blame the 'elites' for this to a certain degree. As the newbies began flooding the forum I found more and more that they were met with hostility. The plain fact is that newbies ask dumb questions. I know that I still ask dumb questions six months into the game. The one thing I have taken out of teaching and tutoring is that the only dumb questions are 'Is this on the test?' and 'How will this count towards my grade?'. And yes, you often have to repeat yourself a thousand times. If my professors had been unwilling to answer my dumb questions I would never have made it through my degree program since I never would have been willing to ask the necessary dumb questions.
So, I blame both the 'elites' and those who attempt to sanitize a perfectly good topic.

No offence, but surely the 3-4 post of this kind per day (which are market related and dont fit into Sell orders because discussion about offerings is not allowed there) cannot cause you that much sifting and most can be identified from the title. I really dont see the point of either side of this. The forum isn't overflowing so it easily has the capacity to handle, "Ingame" Market interface and the secondry market.
I Also have no idea why each group is annoyed with each other, its easy to ignore stuff you dont want to read.

Mintal, Is the secondary market part of the market? I think this needs to be clarified in the MD discussion rules thread.
I personally believe the secondary market is part of the market. The individuals who engage in IPO's and Bond offerings typically use that money for the purposes of additional market activities. Since the activities of IPO's involve the market, the activities of the IPO's to me are relevant to a market discussion.
A real world analogy would be the discussing the stock of a company producing a commodity. Any producer of a commodity is implicitly part of that market (either directly or indirectly) and therefore the status and success of that company remains relevant to market discussions.

Exactly this, If you were to have a discussion about the ingame price of Battleships, ignoring an IPO from a producer feeding 300 Battleships per month into the market would be a bit blindsighted and hence discussion regarding that offering should definately be allowed here.

CCP has designed a game that they like to call a sandbox game. EVE has grown, and one of it's greatest features is it's economics. A few EVE players long ago decided to take a little bit of sand out of the sandbox and bring it here to the forums and start creating a small part of the game here in this forum, in it's out of the way place at the bottom of the forums. CCP allowed this for a very long time, and then chose to uproot the forum and dump it into another location which would make roleplay nearly impossible. The forum staff basically walked up and kicked over the sandcastles made from sand brought from the EVE sandbox, grabbed the players by the neck, and threw them into a classroom.
In my opinion, there DID need to be a newbie forum for economics, but shattering a years-old, highly developed roleplay environment that CCP was not prepared to support ingame should not have been part of the method used to generate this general economics channel.
The MD forum was EVE for quite a few people, and those people were potent driving forces for the economic engine of EVE. Acting outside the game, the people in the MD forums made decisions that had huge economic repercussions within the game. I cannot see how CCP can continue to completely ignore the very people who helped make EVE what it is today.
I'm not a MD "elder" I have browsed through these forums over the years though, both where they were and where they are now. The difference between then and now is a stark contrast.

That's what so much of eve, and all the eve forums is like really. This is my first and only mmorpg and the amount of people with inflated senses of self-importance is just hilarious. Some people are 'laser experts' and know the right fit to pew pew pew, other people are 'elite traders' that head market trends. In the end all gamers are just people in a dark room huddled over their monitors moving pixels around, and when they get bored with that they scurry off to various forums so they can exude a smug and haughty demeanor, calling everyone else a troll or a newbie.
Who cares if some market elites are leaving? Should we follow in their wake with mournful tears and a funeral march, tossing flower petals on the dirt? Should we beat our chests and curse the skies above for being abandoned in this way to fend for ourseleves? I'm sure, during their stead here in-game, these players left some useful advice, and so now they are shoving off for someplace else. Big deal. An mmorpg is a distracting outlet for idle time, and for endeavors fostered in such time there really isn't anything anyone can do that is outstanding such that other people should recognize you as some kind of irreplaceable hero. Anyone who built their 'power' in an mmoporg built it out of 70% tedium and then some combination of strategy and luck - big deal. I acknowledge the advice of other players, but I don't really respect anything that someone can 'accomplish' while being anonymous behind an avatar, mouse in one hand and their **** in the other.

Having re-read my post it maybe comes off a little harsh. Look, I realize that people get deep into this game and its intricacies, and new players can seem irritating when they are stumbling through hoops that you have mastered a long time ago. But instead of always focusing on the vices of newbs, it might be advisable to consider the virtues that 'elite' players often lack: patience, humility, sympathy. Big time market players add complexity and depth to the game, but you're just not gods, you never were. Your time spent in game doesn't give you a license to be an a.s.s.h.o.l.e. to other people. I'm thankful for the advice from others but I hesitate to offer respect to players who expect it out of some delusional hubris. That's all.
So some market players are leaving? Too bad. Other good market ideas will fill up in their place, even in these forums. New players land on these shores all the time, no one player is irreplaceable.

While I agree that the secondary market is arguably part of the overall MD umbrella of discussable topics, it seems that the "elders" have gotten their heads stuck too far up their collective rectums and somehow decided that the secondary market is the ONLY worthy topic for MD to the exclusion of all others. Any newcomers asking here for help or guidance are in for some serious punishment if they dare ask the "wrong" question. The arrogance exhibited here is outright astounding and would make even the hard core thugs in C&P blush. Honestly, it takes a seriously depraved self-esteem to create an ivory tower elite in a VIDEO GAME!!!! Frack the "elders" and their self-important attitude. Good riddance. --------

Not true, many of us have started a number of threads that contain information any newcomer seeks, and recently since the move have started a megathread where questions can be asked and answers reviewed before answering something redundant.
All some of us ask is that you check the stickies and use eve-search before asking. Most of the time the answer has already been posted. |

Eve-search sucks. It has always sucked and will probably suck long after the "elders" have moved out of their parents' basements. And even if a question has already been asked and answered, the level of effort that the "elite" puts into abusing the poor noob who posed it always far exceeds the level of effort required to simply answer the question again or point the noob in the right direction. As I see it, the correct topic is being overlooked. Should be, "why are many veterans leaving these forums behind?" Some of these guys have invested years in helping to foster a community here. Some with tough love, aye, but none the less with love and sweat.
I can imagine what it would take for these types to decide that there is no longer any return value for their investment, here. Most of these veterans that are leaving are long term players/planners/thinkers and they have started to categorically rate this forum as a poor investment.
Reading this thread has only substantiated that thought in my mind. A few of your are worthy but then those who were always were before this thread.
The nature of the internet is that any community is held hostage to its lowest common denominator. Market Discussion forum has been, for a very long time, passed over by Eve's lowest common denominator. This made it the preferred forum for those who prefer not to virtually rut in the mud with the rest of the riff raff. Not everyone wants to degrade others or be a degenerate.
Many of you call that "elitism". It is accurately called "having standards" and yall don't rate... so you do what you can to trash the forums to your level. And like any other scavenger, you are trying to vomit on the efforts, reputation, and history of those better men and women that came before you.
A recent eBank post called this what it is: Forum Euthanasia. To finally become acceptable and achieve success, lower the goal posts to your level. I'd call you Jackals but that would be insulting Jackals. (And I'm sure one would report this thread for that.) |

Eve-Search works for all but the most complicated questions.
Search this sub forum for tritium or trit and you'll get half a dozen threads about the rising and lowering of this mineral. What affects these changes, and how you can react to them to form your own predictions.
Search this sub forum for t2 - exploit and you'll get prolly the best in depth discussion of the impact its actually going to have. Many of us here predicted the exact outcome, the dates of it occuring, and a rough estimated amount days before CCP gave it to the CSM. (Props to Akita the resident market crystal ball)
To just trounce this amazing resource just drives the point home that its getting like the rest of the forums around here.

Not because of all the new players comming here asking for help or tips, but because of all the 'MD Veterans' hostility. It a game forum ffs, not some private club.

Proof in point.
The appropriate response would be to counter troll you. Some cheeky or snarky remark but what would be the point of it? It is not that you won't stop being an arse, nothing anyone can say can do that. You just enjoy being one.
There lies the difference between yourself and many of those hostile vets leaving. They only act an arse from necessity. You actively choose to do it even though I warrant that you don't have to be that way so consistently.
I am glad that I have achieved some sort of first in your life. I will have to say, in return, that I have seen so little said with even less words. Here's to hoping you didn't strain yourself coming up with that.

Eventually every question will come up again, that is a certain. Its been going on here for years.
But the amount of clutter lately has gone up, where as we might get a single "Why has trit gone up" in a month, its gotten to be a daily occurrence in a large price shift.
I'm hopeful that the EVEeWiki project will help alleviate some stress in answering the same thing twice, or even having to post a link again and again, etc... |

You're right. I suck. My real parents are long dead. Perhaps my other parents - these arrogant elites can follow their example and go away. Maybe you should lead them.
And another thing regarding eve-search. It is an external site. Expecting noobs to use a search engine that is not part of the eve forums to find topics in the eve forums is absolutely ridiculous. I could understand if the eve-search site was actually a very effective search engine, but honestly, for the most part, eve-search makes Ask Jeeves look good. But then again. I suck. I don't really know what I'm doing or talking about. But my general suckiness and incompetence notwithstanding, I'm pretty sure these "elite parents" will not be missed by anyone but the most co-dependent of sycophants. --------

And then they wonder why we complain about the lowered quality around here lately. |

You've got your "we, the elites" blinders on. No one cares or wonders what you complain about. --------

Casing point and thank you for being so honest, if a few more of the newer players would be as honest as you maybe MD regulars would go a bit easy on y'all.
ie "Hello Im new here I cannot be bothered reading stickies and I cannot use search engines, could someone pls point me to some information about how to trade"
would get a better reception than
"Tradz peoplez Plz tell me how to be uber rick, k thx"
Have a good day, and as you should know admission is the first step on the road to recovery.
