Kids are still cute when you have them, even when you have 3. lol. Seriously, you learn patience and caution, all sorts of things. Heh. Its sort of cool, but sort of bad too. Like when I was younger I would drive 125mph down the interstate. Now I wouldn never do that even by myself. If I died my family would be in trouble.
Raising kids is weird, but awesome. As far as smacking kids goes, I think this philosophy is pretty accurate.
--If you are worried that you are hitting your children too hard or too often, you are.--
People know when they are doing something wrong. Thats why thieves look left and right just before they are about to steal something. Parents realize when they have gone too far. The trick is to not let it get to that point. -Vene Vidi Vice |

Originally by: Xrak Anyone that thinks that children will grow up to be an arrogent, ignorant drain on society if they arent repeatedly physically punished needs to look at countries like Sweden and Norway, where it has been illegal for decades. Hardly countries thought of as being full of yobs.
I knew a family in Sweden. They had a boy of about eight and the little ****er would touch everything, throw things, hit the cat and it would even try to throw the TV on the floor. Parents couldn't do a thing about it and all they would do is ask him not to stop, they wouldn't tell him but ask. They explained that in Sweden kids can phone the police, tell them they're being beaten and parents will end up in prison just because the child says so. I didn't understand what they were talking about until I went to the UK and saw it first hand.
As Jacob said, children are taught by the Gestapo and the SS to lie about their parents. It's entirely encouraged by a society that has no rules, no discipline and no respect. Children are brought up to disrespect, to be violent, to be yobs or whatever and to be the way they are. While the childless posters here cry **** that bad parenting is to blame when they have no idea what they're talking about people are actively fleeing the UK. One lady fled the UK and sought asylum in another European country and was granted it because of the severe violations of (parental) human rights in the UK. While I don't understand why she went to Sweden, as Sweden is just as oppressive, I do understand and support her for fleeing the UK.
Why do the SS do these things? Because there are no reprecussions. They can do whatever they want and there is nothing anyone is going to do about it. SS'er lets an eight year old girl die, is fined 500 Pounds by the court because she wouldn't turn up and then is allowed to continue to work with children.
The ultimate power of the SS.

No, you're just a bad parent.
No, he just lives in the USA or another similar country which has a much-too-long tradition of silly "child abuse" laws that give children WAY too much entitlement... and has a relatively busy job so he can't afford to be with his young kids most of the day.
The moment your "disciplining" methods peak at stuff like "you're grounded" (yeah, right, so what) or a very stern talking to (lol?)... you can't possibly expect anything good to come of it. You wouldn't try to TALK to a puppy and explain to him why it's bad he shat on the carpet, now would you ? Even if the puppy COULD understand (well, a puppy can't, but a small child can) what you are saying, he simply does not care yet. Im 15, and I agree whole-heartedly with corporal punishment. Why?
Because even I can realize that adults have lost control over children.
A while ago I though corporal punishment was a bad idea, but sometimes you just need corporal punishment to keep someone in line.
I finally realized this last year, when in one of my classes there was a kid who wouldn't shut up, he was talking and joking loudly in class, and the teacher couldn't do anything about him. "I'll give you a referral to the office." and he just laughed off her attempts to get him back in line.
of coarse they can't take corporal punishment too far, like whipping someone when they get up and look out the window because there was a car crash outside (yes, this did happen to one of my teachers when he was a kid, there was a screech and a crash outside and 9 kids got up to look outside, they all got whipped.) -------------------------------------

Where in my previous statement have I said anything akin to "beat your kids constantly and for every little thing" ? You apply a very good spanking only for the worst transgressions (putting himself or somebody else in danger) and increasingly less for the rest (hurting other people would be second on the list, gotta nip that in the bud fast... third would be intentional destruction of property). For minor things (like disobedience, screaming and shouting or similar), a simple "evil look" should suffice once you have established your authority.
It's like nukes : you don't really have to use them if the other one knows you CAN use them.

My wife has a degree in Criminal Psychology (profiling) and she asks whenever someone comes out something as intelligent as this "How can you expect children not to criminalise when all they have been taught that the only concequence of their actions is no concequence?"
The moment you have realised why teenage pregnancy is out of control in the UK and US, why youths turn to violence and crime and why parents are fleeing such countries en masse is the moment you realise why spanking or other forms of harsh discipline are necessary. I know people who are living in Israel and would rather run the risk of getting blown up than raise their children in the UK and have them come home pregnant at 10.

You just have to put up with them until they can walk at least, the little parasites.
Edit, actually I thought about that for five seconds and realized even if they can't walk they CAN crawl. With jury rigging I'm sure you could work some sort of harness for a smal cart. So I guess:
1. Harness infant
2. Coal Mine
3. Profit

My father beat the crap out of me when I did anything I knew would get me in trouble. I'm talking belt flying every which way. Legs, back, ass, head.. they were all targets. God forbid you try to cover your butt with your hands.. He did that till I was 13.. Once I hit that age, he put the belt down and would just knock me senseless with whatever he could grab. If nothing was available, he'd just use his fists.
He wasn't a child abuser by any means. Aside from my punishment, we had a great relationship and he taught me more about the world than anyone or anything else. That's just how he was raised. lol.. But.. I was always one of those "meh.. let's do it anyway" type kids.. so I'd do something.. get one of those talking to's. Do it again, and BAM. I couldn't sit down for 5 days.
Seems fair to me. Every single time I did something "wrong" I would have to think about it. "Well.. first.. will I get caught? Second.. if I DO get caught.. how bad will I get my ass beat? Third.. does fun outweigh the pain?" Most of the time.. I'd just take a beating.. Man I had some good times. And some sore times. lol And I learned how to be super sneaky! lol
But there is NO doubt in my mind, I'd be in jail right now if it wasn't for those ass whippins. Sometimes, the fun just wasn't gonna outweigh the pain. risk v/s reward and all that. lol. Kept my ass out of 0.0.
And yes, the Defax people are insane. They tried to arrest my mother, back when I was in highschool, because I skipped school. She dropped me off in front of the school, I would go eat breakfast, gather some friends, and leave. We did that ALL the time. They tried to arrest HER even though technically, I was already in the schools custody when I walked off campus. lol. I know people who have been taken from their parents because a family member (aunt, cousin, etc) was ****ed off and called. I've known people who have had their kids taken away because they smacked their ass in walmart or some place. My boss just had to go through an ordeal with them because his step daughter (who doesn't live with them) called and said they smoke pot around their kids. Which he they don't. They don't even drink. But they didn't even drug test. They just came and took the kids. They got em back and stuff.. but still.. that's something no parent should have to deal with. The sad thing is.. the kids who NEED to be in protective custody, aren't. That's the real joke about the whole thing.

Fixed.
I don't mind little kids, as long as I know them or they're not bothering me or being little ****s.
I've met small children whose parents probably should have been castrated before procreating..there's nothing more irritating to me than parents who don't at least discipline thier own kids every once in a while.
My mom used to be a Social Services worker and the majority of the kids she worked with weren't really problematic enough to get their parents into trouble, but it's insane, the amount of power she actually had.

Kids in the US are spoiled little hellions glad i don't have ne.
