Kids actually start with some really amazing attributes at lvl 5 already.
I will list a few - begging - stealing from your wallet/purse - phoning social services and lying that you beat them because you refused to buy them another xBox/PS3 as they already have two or three (advanced skill at 5) - demand that not only you take them to some exotic place on holiday but also take all of their friends so they can show off - beat their teachers - disrespect and talk back (advanced skill at 5) - impatience - ****, cry and keep you awake at all hours of the night - demand you throw away all of their clothing and buy the latest in fashion after you bought them an entire new wardrobe the week before - shoot parents because they take toys/games away (advanced skill at 5)
That's only a few skills they have at lvl 5, including their corresponding advanced skills.

No, you're just a bad parent.
No, he just lives in the USA or another similar country which has a much-too-long tradition of silly "child abuse" laws that give children WAY too much entitlement... and has a relatively busy job so he can't afford to be with his young kids most of the day.
The moment your "disciplining" methods peak at stuff like "you're grounded" (yeah, right, so what) or a very stern talking to (lol?)... you can't possibly expect anything good to come of it. You wouldn't try to TALK to a puppy and explain to him why it's bad he shat on the carpet, now would you ? Even if the puppy COULD understand (well, a puppy can't, but a small child can) what you are saying, he simply does not care yet. The only thing he cares about is immediate, short-term drawbacks (like a couple of slaps to the ass).

Basically, they get some phone numbers a kid can call and CLAIM he's being beaten, and without much investigation on wether the kid is actually beaten at all (and yes, physical disciplining of any kind seems to qualify as "abuse" over there too)... and some people will be coming over to your house and take the child away until some investigation can be made or the kid drops the claims. Of course, the child would be doing something incredibly stupid if he actually does this, but the mere threat or fear of your kid acting so short-sightedly on a mood swing will keep most parents NOT ONLY from physically disciplining their kids, but also make them cave in to the child's absurd demands (and it only gets worse as time goes by).

I have worked with kids for 15 plus years. I found humor in my personal interpretation of sarcasm as it has to do with EVE and new pilots.
On a biological level, the human infant is one of the more susceptible vulnerable of mammalian infants, non debatable.

Good classroom activity.
While the article took place in the US it is an example.
When I was in uni a teacher was knifed by a student. The teacher then got arrested for assaulting the kid and nothing was done about the kid because the teacher had laid hands on him before being rushed to hospital. How many of my fellow classmates do you think ended up in the classroom? As far as I know none.
Welcome to the UK.
Also I am glad I know the work of Dr. Winston and don't just spout political correct nonsense like the rest of you. Marching to the tunes of the SS (Social Services) while THE expert on behavioural science teaches otherwise doesn't make you look clever. This comment was not aimed at you Akita but at those who think that by echoing the fascist rhetoric of a bunch of half sane people (the SS are notoriously unstable).

Bad design. Nah. My 1yr old son pulls at my heart strings. Despite him getting into all kinds of things he shouldn't and constantly testing to see what he can get away with there's pretty much nothing I wouldn't do for him. Having a little one that is totally dependant on you is a real life changer and any parent that's not a total **** takes the responsibility seriously.

Geez you sound like bible thumper who sights the commandment to be fruitful with that line. Seeing as your not from America even if you have heard the stories you likely wouldnt be able to grasp just how messed up it is here.
Child services, Social services, whatever non threatening name they prefer often times act on a hunch or alleged complaint that the parents are abusing their children. They come to your home, take your child away, take several weeks or months before they will determine if you were at fault or not and depending on what they find either remove your child from you completely or eventually return them. Often times these groups trample American citizens constitutional rights. But wait, thereÆs more!
Parents are becoming afraid to even bring their children to the hospital now because doctors will often times report suspected abuse. Now you may think that isnÆt so bad but things like a bump on the head from the child running around and hitting their head on the table fall into that category. So something your three year old likely does several times a week is a sign that YOUÆRE A CHILD ABUSER.
Then we have the police actually going to the schools, going into each class room and preaching to the students ôif either of your parents hurt you or your mommy or daddy, its your job to call us so we can help.ö Do you see how disturbing that is? The police actually recruit our children to be their informants. When you consider how emotionally immature children are a simple argument over where to go for vacation can be viewed by the child as ôdaddy hurting mommyö.
Then there is the social stigma that comes from having social services coming to take your child away so yes, Americans have plenty of excuses to stop trying. Our own government has set it up so that a member of our family who is emotionally immature can call, make an ill informed or false claim and that is enough to brand us as child abusers. No evidence needed, no proof required to substantiate the claim, just a ôI saw such and such all by myself hurting their child.ö

I am a parent of 3 children. 4yo boy, 2yo girl and a 9moth old boy. There are a lot of things you can do to keep children from becoming "unmanagable" from the get go and hitting them isn't necessary. The only time I "might" smack my oldest sons hand is if he is about to do something dangerous that may cause him to get hurt: Ie: Pulling boiling water off the stove, sticking his hand into the oven when its hot, jabbing things in electricla sockets, etc etc...you get the idea.
The important thing I have found is that no matter what you do to punish them, timeout, yelling taking things away etc, you make sure they know that you still love and care for them. They are your children and to actually be angry at them is counterproductive. It is up to you as the parent to keep a clear head and some objectivity. -Vene Vidi Vice |

Word to my mother here! I agree with nearly everything you said.
(See what I did there?)
Anyone that thinks that children will grow up to be an arrogent, ignorant drain on society if they arent repeatedly physically punished needs to look at countries like Sweden and Norway, where it has been illegal for decades. Hardly countries thought of as being full of yobs.
(That isn't aimed at you Aria Moana in the slightest.)
I cant really comment on opinion that in the USA, the CPS will take your child from you for next to nothing, as I dont live there.

children's personalities are moulded throughout their childhood by circumstances and the environment they grow up in, if they turn out to be little ****s then most of the blame fall on the parents. However i do agree that social service cases do get out of hand, but fortunately only rarely.
Why do we have kids? Instinct, love, want of a family, carrying on the bloodline, help running the homestead, need of a successor, because its natural, because thats what people do, vocation, divine will. There are a thousand reasons to have children, and only a few not to.
I lolled at OP's remark, very funny. And super whopper its fairly obvious that you dont have kids, and you also seem to be a bit bitter. Those points you listed are sometimes true in kids, but adults have mastered them (adv. lvl 5's if you want). If you honestly believe what you wrote i have to offer my congratulations as you've bought into the crap spewed tabloid newspapers

Quit letting the TV raise your kids. Maybe then they wouldn't turn into total morons, who want to stab their teachers and call the cops on you if you don't give them everything they want.
Besides, the dog is a much better role model. The only bad habits they will learn are sniffing peoples crotches and licking their own genitals...which might not be all that bad in the right situation.
