GTC Sellers unite! The power is in OUR hands. There is no reason why, now that only one type of GTC is offically supported by CCP, that we cannot set a higher Avg. selling price. It's a virtual item and has no relation whatsoever to real-world cash.
Let's ignore the greed, and work together to force buyers to accept the new higher prices and make more isk per transaction.
NO GTC SELL ORDERS UNDER 900M. YEEEEHAAAWWW!!!

Argh! And here I thought that no one else knew about that
Seriously though, yes, 60 GTCs do cost around $35 bucks, but there exists no set *exchange* rate for determining how many isk make up a $, nor should there by. Currently, individuals are willing to pay 600M+ per code, and since sellers are willing to part with them for this price, the market goes on. If, however, a majority of sellers decide together to raise the minimum price, then buyers will either have to stop buying GTCs (probably not going to happen on a largescale) or dish up the cash.
Will this force some players to stop purchasing GTCs? possibly, but It's unlikely that the loss will affect us sellers by a large margin. We can slowly increase prices, prehaps make em' 700M, then 750M, and then 850M. Eventually we'll arrive at a realistic, fair and sustainable maximum.
'Course, in the real world this behind the scenes 'price-fixing' would be quite illegal. Thank God it's only a game, eh?

Oki, you try to raise the GTC prize, people say, nwm it, I wont buy.. What you gonna do then? Sit with enormus ammounts of GTC¦s noone wants, and what will happen with prices??? And it is impossible to control all sellers.
And if the price is to high in pure isk, buyers maybe offer 500 mil+ a Free commandship etc etc.

I know this is all in jest, but I'll comment anyway.
Nah. Don't penalize the people who are good customers because of a handful of loudmouthed brats who can't afford GTCs and demand that everyone else boycott sellers so that *they* can afford it.
Most people happily pay whatever the going price is. There are THOUSANDS of GTCs sold for ISK every single month and only a few dozen that complain incessantly. When I sell (which isn't often), I see what the going price is and that's what I set mine at. No more and no less. Last time I sold some, I sold four of them at a time and all four were gone for the asking price within less than five minutes (in fact, I had many more interested parties than I did codes).
There is a big market out there and not enough sellers and codes to meet the demand. That said, when I sell I am not trying to screw over or take advantage of anyone. And I'm not going to take out my frustration with the whiners on the 98% of buyers who don't complain and act like I am somehow obligated to subsidize their gaming experience with my cold hard cash.

There is no set rate, but there is a rate. It is most definitely an aggregate of what ISK buyers and willing to get for their cash investment and how much ISK GTC buyers are willing to spend in order to avoid forking over cash.
It is a floating rate, and it varies over time, but it's a rate just the same and it's determined in pretty much the same way as the value for most commodities are determined. And you can't ignore the fact that GTC sales are directly tied to an actual investment of real cash. To wit, if 60 day GTC's were ten dollars supply would probably outstrip demand and you'd be lucky to get 300 mil.

Haha, see this is the very reason why GTC prices will continue to go lower and lower. Someone always breaks the code, and sells below the going avg. just to make a quick buck, not knowing that in the long run, the whole economy will suffer. For example; if I brought a stockpile of GTCs and starting selling em' for 450M apiece, pretty soon the rest of ya would have to follow.
I remember I once bought all the T2 Spike S in Jita. Cost like 200-300M. I spread it out across the surrounding systems for double the price, and lemme tell ya, not only did every single unit sell, but when the T2 manufacturers resupplied their stock, their new prices were in line with mine. It's simple supply and demand, ppl have been using GTCs for far too long to stop using em' just cause the price went up a few hundred mil'
If only there was some way to give incentives to those who followed suit and increased prices... maybe a corp...

A flawed point, as if GTCs did cost less than actually paying for game time, people would always use them instead.
Since the cost, in real-world cash, of buying a GTC is equal to (and sometimes greater than) the cost of paying CCP for game time, it must be concluded then that any rate of exchange between dollars and isk is purely mental, and set by the parties involved in the said transaction.

That's note a flawed point. It illustrates, precisely, the fact that there is an economy of investment involved. And no, even if GTC's were 5 dollars some of us cheap bastards would still prefer to pay in ISK while we used real cash for hookers and blow.

That's how pretty much every commodity's value in the entire world is set. You invest money into it, and you see how much people want to buy it for.

I stopped buying GTC several months ago and now have only one or two of my three accounts active at any given time...
<shrug> So charge what you want :)
The nice thing is, I now finally have some actual ISK in my virtual bank and am no longer playing to "simply" pay the monthly bill.

Hate to be Captain Obvious here, but there is a max rate these will go for. The same can be said for all "life sustaining" goods. Much like Gas... If I told you in 1994 you'd be paying $4.50 a gallon you'd say you'd quit driving. But you paid it a few months ago. Same here.
What can your average customer base produce during that time, subtract the cost of their production (ships, ammo, skills, etc), take out an average for "expendable income", then you have an average budget that a group can afford to spend on your product, or GTCs in this case.
The market should be able to sustain a higher average for 60d GTCs then 900m, since a player can generate 40m an hour in 0.0 just by ratting with little effort.
Bottom line is, there *is* a set rate, what the people can afford. We've not reached it yet, and it's much higher then 900m for those who count on them.
Side note, I don't use or sell GTCs. :) ________________________________

Someone above said that "if 60 day GTCs dropped in price to $10 USD, we'd be lucky to get 300m ISK for them".
Well... yeah... Regardless of demand, the fact that the CASH investment is less would mean we'd be willing to SELL them for less ISK. Right now, it comes out to ~~15m ISK per USD spent on a GTC. So while $35 worth of GTC would run around 500m-600m, just $10 worth of GTC would go for around 150m ISK - not even considering supply and demand.

WEll... yeah... that was the point. That GTC's did indeed represent a real economy of investment for real actual cash. And, as a side note, that they're not immune to supply and demand and if the supply shot through the roof, prices would crash.
