Never really got into the originals myself either... wont be getting Doom 3, waste of money to run it in low detail on my 2500+

I think Doom 3 will be a huge dissapointment. There has been WAY too much hype for this game, and it simply doesn't offer anything in the way of interesting game-play asides cool graphics and big scary monsters.
Its all been done before, and from what i've seen it doesn't have the same spooky feeling that the resident evil series captured so well.
Half Life 2 on the other hand is my tip for FPS of the Year.
But what do i know... i'll still get both

I think Doom 3 will be a huge dissapointment. There has been WAY too much hype for this game, and it simply doesn't offer anything in the way of interesting game-play asides cool graphics and big scary monsters.
Its all been done before, and from what i've seen it doesn't have the same spooky feeling that the resident evil series captured so well.
Half Life 2 on the other hand is my tip for FPS of the Year.
But what do i know... i'll still get both

Got Doom 3 pre-ordered, same with HL2. Both games seem very nice, I just hope I can run them on my computer without any difficulties... Getting new 3d-card. BF2 looks very nice I must admit. A must-buy imo. And it will be better than all other games for one reason, which Wrangler stated, it's made by Swedes. Go DICE!

Well, the doom series was never really meant to be a multiplayer fragfest, that's what carmack did the quake series for. And speaking of quake, since quake 4 is being developed externally by raven software, I don't have high hopes for it. But, you never know, raven is not a bad games studio.
I think IMO, All the hype in the media is going to let some people down when it comes to doom 3 though, It never fails, they pump it up so much and get your expectations up higher than you normally would, then when you sit down and actually play through some of it, your left going like "Is that it?".
The latest game I bought for my PC, Thief: Deadly Shadows, was kind of like that for me. I had my expectations up too high, partially because i love this franchise, but, its only as i played through it more and more that i got to appreciate it better.

When it's all said and done, it's just another attempt at a scary FPS. I haven't been scared from a videogame since leisure suit larry . I doubt Doom 3 will be any different.
Until we get to the technological point of manipulating brain waves and having some REAL VR, I highly doubt there will be a game that's actually scary. To me anyway. It's a shame too, 'cause I live for being scared. It's the best emotion you can have.

The games that i liked that i can remember in my work induced hallucination is:
System shock 2
Clive barkers: Undying
Avp 1
The point that people are not getting scared when playing games are because they don't let themselves give into it.
Btw. Doom 3 friggin rocks! Scared the living ****e out of me!

I've played every game mentioned and none of them scared me.
Actually.. yeah in resident evil when the zombie-dogs came through the window.. that made me jump.. heh
I guess monsters and demons and satanic evil has no effect on me. Other than me saying "hah that's cool.. kinda like that time I was trippin LSD and the trees turned into.." anyway..you get the point.. 
I get more scared playing vietcong than I do undying, or silent hill. Why? Because I know that one day.. I could very well be in a jungle (or desert as it seems these days) with a machine gun shooting people.
To be truely frightening it has to be something believable and realistic. For me anyway.
