I name mine after British WWII ships.
In PvP, always rename your ship. The Culture ship names is my favorite.
Banks is brilliant with his names.
All my ships' names are sentence fragments from any random song I happen to have in my head at the time.
oh , the culture ship names is the best: "liveware problem" "now we try it my way" "don't try this at home" "you'll clean that up before you leave" "subtle shift in emphasis"
my nyx is named Banzai Butterfly , after a song by the swedish group quit your dayjob. The lyrics go something like this: "die die butterfly , die die butterfly , banzai butterfly....." I am always yelling it in PvP :-D
Yeah - I just wish there was no character Limit so I could fly "The anticipation of a new lovers arrival"

"7 Inches" for the Itt4, and "8 Inches" for the Itty5 :) Lepricorn for the Obelisk, will need to find a proper name for the Anshar.
My main ISK making Domi is "Heart of Gold" from THHGTTG. Megathron is "LongShot" from Larry Nivens Ringworld.
The rest of the (pvp) ships are lost too many times, and named "..." for being more anonymously.

Even though it's years since I read the books, I think I've probably been naming all my Megathrons after Stardestroyers from the Thrawn trilogy... --------------

Mythological beings normally, for me. That, or the names of songs :)
Some that I've used, that spring to mind:
Nimue - my Thanatos
Jadis - My Navy Mega and Phobos (both now dead grrrrrr)
Sleep. Now. - My Wolf

Edited by: Jack Gilligan on 05/01/2009 15:36:47 Usually my ships are all named Defiance but I have assigned unique names to my capital ships which are named after notable World War II warships, one is USS Yorktown and the other USS West Virginia.
USS Yorktown was a carrier that was lost in the Battle of Midway, but delivered the dive bombers that sank the last Japanese carrier winning the battle.
USS West Virginia was actually SANK during the bombing of Pearl Harbor but was raised, refitted, and served with distinction during the war.

American, Ozzie, Kiwi and Japanese ships that fought in the Solomon Islands or New Guinea area during WWII. Frigates are named after Destroyers or smaller ships (one is PT124, the only US PT boat to sink a Japanese destroyer single-handed), Cruisers and Battlecruisers are named after Cruisers, and BS's after BS's. Industrials are named after Liberty Ships or Victory Ships.
The only exceptions is a Rapier named The Sweet P, which was the nickname of the USS Portland, and a Sacrilege named the Johnston, which never fought near these places but during the battle of the Leyte Gulf charged a huge Japanese formation including the Yamato, the largest battleship ever. Johnston and it's captain Lt. Cmdr. Ernest Evans didn't survive the battle, but they accomplished delaying and distracting the Japanese fleet allowing their targets - escort carriers who Johnston was escorting - to escape. 141 of the 327 men on the Johnston survived the battle. I have another Sacrilege named the Samuel B. Roberts from the same battle.

Generally from Norse mythology, Star Wars Ships, and/or Emotions.
So your names would be like "Envious Chewbacca Odin"?
I always change my ships name to the default name except without my chars name in front. Gives them information they had already, nothing more nothing less.

Another way to name a ship would be ship names from Banks Culture series - like Grey Area, Don't Try This at Home, It's My Party and I'll Sing If I Want and Liveware Problem.
Great series.

I've gone through so many ships...
I tend to call them Priest Seeking Boy if people in local knowing what I'm in wont affect anything.
If circumstances come about of course I'll change it in midstride, just to confuse them.

Named my retriever to "Fetch, Fido, Fetch".
PS: Fido now sits in station like a good boy as he is getting old and I use my Exhumer now... but I keep it around for the odd mission when I feel I can loose it....So dont bother scanning for it!

Edited by: Jaabaa Prime on 06/01/2009 03:09:13 Yes, I rename my ships, but all I normally do is remove "Jaabaa Prime's " so that as little intel is available on a scan as possible. --
