Greetings fellow Pod Pilots!
Being a Windows 7 beta tester I have taken it upon myself to create a few EVE Online themepacks for Windows 7. If any of you are so brave as to be running the Windows 7 beta (or will be tomorrow when the public beta is released), feel free to download these themepacks and simply doubleclick them for your viewing pleasure.
For those that are not sure what themepacks are, it is a new customization feature in Windows 7. Simply put, a themepack is a pre-packaged set of desktop backgrounds, window colors, sounds and a screen saver. Windows 7 has added the ability to select multiple files as a desktop background and can automatically transition between them at set intervals. All this can be packaged into one single file called a themepack and distributed as long as you have permission to distribute the contents of the themepack of course. More detail about this is at the official Windows 7 website.
My themepacks contain only backgrounds and window colors, and sounds and screen savers are switched off. You can enable those by yourself if you wish to.
Please note that these themepacks are NOT officially supported by CCP, as I did this in my own free time.
Without further ado, get your themepacks at the links below. Navigate to the links and from there, select the download links :) Trinity - Widescreen Trinity - Standard Empyrean Age - Widescreen
I might be adding more themepacks as time goes on so feel free to bookmark this thread
Here are sample screenshots of the themes http://img235.imageshack.us/my.php?image=empyreanagetf6.jpgPlease visit your user settings to enable images. http://img84.imageshack.us/my.php?image=trinityzw0.jpgPlease visit your user settings to enable images.
P.S. I'm currently storing this stuff on my Windows Live SkyDrive. If anyone knows of or has better file hosting possibilities then please leave a message :) |

Not to be an arse, and I don't even know if you're to blame or windows, but that UI was kinda ugly compared to previous versions of windows (which honestly are quite bland as well) |

Ghostrider, does Eve works with windows 7 ?
Working like in "enter the first screens, launch the station and dedock" (and then crash a few minutes after, maybe, but you got it). |

Rofl! Okay, I may not have worded it perfectly (english is not my native) but the essence of my point still stands:
Either Microsoft made a crappy ui this time, or the modification of the ui made it crappy. Makes more sense? |

Oh no your point was perfect the first time, I was just being a goof. :)
Anyway Vista's UI was pretty ass-ish, and Windows 7 is a "refinement" of that so it stands to reason any of the design aesthetics which might have curled your hair in Vista will still be there in 7. Luckily you can turn it off for a more classic feel.

Cool. :D
I also have the beta but haven't played around with it at all yet, is there a way that I would be able to change the "quick launch" esque items to be smaller, like in previous versions of Windows? I just don't like how boxy some Windows 7 things look.
I've been hearing nothing but good about its performance, I just wish they didn't start moving back toward whites/light blues/flat for their visual scheme!

Not to be an ass, but.. how is this any different from going to the wallpaper section of the website, right clicking -> set as background? Without custom sounds and icons, this isn't much of a theme as it a way to change your background + UI colors in one step.

Some explanations due to all the replies :)
Themepack not being a Windows 7 invention That's true. Themes have been in Windows for years. However until now, 3rd party themepacks have not been easy to make for anyone without hacking things together and using patched DLL's. Windows 7 makes it as easy as setting it up for you personally and clicking a "Save Theme" link. And they're called theme packs in 7 so that's what I called them here.
Does it include Sounds and a Screen Saver Nope. I made this myself at home and i hate Windows Sounds so i turn them off and don't use a screensaver either. It's easy to change this if you want.
uTorrent? With all the beta testing, reformatting hard drives etc. I have to periodically download things like game patches and the EVE client for example.
How is this any different from going to the wallpaper section of the website, right clicking -> set as background? Without custom sounds and icons, this isn't much of a theme as it a way to change your background + UI colors in one step. It isn't except for the fact that it's a custom UI color and more than one wallpaper in a single downloadable file. Also due to there being multiple wallpapers in the theme pack and Windows 7 supporting more than one wallpaper you should see them smoothly transitioning like a slideshow every 30 minutes (you can configure the delay from the Personalization menu if you want). No more getting bored of the same wallpaper for hours on end.
Does your boss know what your doing???? He knows :) I did this in my free time at home... i promise :)
And yes. EVE works fine on 7 for me at least. Tried both Windows 7 x86 and x64, works just fine and dandy :)
"Miscellaneous Windows 7 talk" I love the beta. Admittedly I also liked Vista but 7 is way better in my opinion. Better performance, less memory requirements and refined UI and small stuf flike the theme pack support. It's a hit for me. The SuperBar (new taskbar) is awesome compared to the old one if you find yourself having more than just 5 - 10 windows open at the same time. I suggest you go to the Windows 7 site and watch the superbar demonstration video. Jumplists and pinned items are epic win!
