What were you testing your katanas on to chip them? While I never tested the things against human bone I have tested them against stuff up to 2-4s before running into trouble.

It is impossible to have a good and an enjoyable life when you no one you know has a private gun. What were you testing your katanas on to chip them? While I never tested the things against human bone I have tested them against stuff up to 2-4s before running into trouble. Bone is very nasty for an edge. Wood (pine 2x4s in particular) are pretty safe when it comes to protecting an edge. Sure, it's more abrasive than flesh, but it's not (literally) rock hard like bone is. Plus due to a long bone's structure (internally) there is a very high chance of the edge biting and then skidding along it's surface, chipping the edge. If you have a sword you don't mind messing up, get a long bone from an animal (lower/upper leg bones from cattle or swine work just fine) and take a run at it. Secure it extremely well and use proper cutting technique or you can have some very unexpected results. I've seen more than one person cut with their own blade because they were goofing off and the blade deflected into their foot or arm and so on. All that energy with no place to go is a bad thing. I also personally own a Springfield XD40, Glock 23, as well as a Springfield m14. I'd be lying if I said any of those are currently for any sort of home defense, really...I feel quite safe where I live. But they're definitely fun to shoot and my living circumstances could certainly change. I've gotta say I bought the Glock for the name brand appeal, but I greatly prefer my XD (both are .40) The m14 is of course a shooter's dream. It has a supermatch barrel and the damn thing is just stupidly consistent and easy to dial in. Makes a "fundamentally sound" shooter (me) look like a trained marksman.
