Ive always been interested in future applications of things including Eve Online even if they never make it. Things like viceroyalties and storefronts [which havn't made it yet] to wormholes and tier 3 battlecruisers which are in-game and the upcoming stuff like new modules and destructable outposts.
So what will be in EvE Online in 10 years time?
Personally I predict that PI and DUST 514 will become intertwined with starships able to blast PI facilties. Maybe space elevators will make an appearance along with new PI facilties suggested by players such as libraries for creating skill books. Sov will change from being artificial as in simply putting down a structure in space to being more believable in putting down goverment structures down on planets. Those modular pos's shown at fanfest might appear too. Low sec only PI facilties will be able to create special module/implant blueprints. Implants can be created. Spaceships will no longer have insurance. Independent faction frigates and cruisers like the Medusa, Styx and Ixion will be able to be created.
Ships will have sub-systems that can be targetted. There will be tech 3 frigates, battlecruisers and battleships. Jovian ships will be able to be flown with explosive and kinetic crystals. Pirate faction specific battlecruisers which look different. A couple more 0.0 sec regions. NPC 0.0 will be able to be controlled by players. Being able to gamble with players through Incarna and meeting DUST players in-station to beratethem for not fighting hard enough. Greater interaction with your ship. Capital ships become a multiplayer enterprise where multiple capsuleers are required to pilot all systems. Comet mining and solar mining! Factions will be able to conquer each others systems. Dynamic sec status change of systems.
Of course if those things arrive I will be no longer interested in them and will keep pining for the new features/iteration |

Hyperspace to untangle the mess that are the jump drive mechanics. You travel fast in a straight line from system to system but you can only hot drop if you are next door anyway. Hyperspace would further allow super capitals to have something special by allowing them to stay in hyperspace for as long as they wish and serve as a base of operation behind enemy lines.
What leads to a overhaul to super capitals in general. They need completely new game mechanics to give them a role. They will over time become multiplayer ships and deep space operation bases. Since losing one needs to be a massive hurt, they can't be as invincible as they are now to small arms fire. Sub system targeting was on the drawing board for quite some time and would make it possible to hurt supers without actually destroying them. Replacing parts would be pricy instead of having a few carrier pilots bored for some time.
Sub system targeting would be helpful for destructable outposts. It would solve the problem of players that don't play right now and lose all their stuffz in an outpost explosion. Holding space should be a real commitment and being unable to defend space should hurt more then just pride. With blowing individual parts of stations up, that commitment can be moved down to individual pilots instead of some leadership that just wanders off to new shores.
EVE will grow bigger over time and will get more gameplay - as it should. When someone burns down your sandcaste, bring sausages. |

The greatest thing about eve is that it didn't start from the ground up. It started in the biggest possible way, and there really is no limit as to what you can accomplish. Here are the things I want to happen:
- Dynamic security status change
- Exploration a full profession not a mini-one
- FPS exploration of planets for artifacts/valuables. Going into a volcano with ruins on a magma planet, exploring a ruined city on a temperate planet. Ice caves on barren planets, etc etc
- Modules (hand-held in FPS) for this type of exploration that you can use to upgrade your character with.
- More versatility in sites, more fluent and exciting methods of finding said sites.
- Make exploration more what it sounds like. An adventure, a story arc. Less grind more "eyes glued to the screen" immersion. Merge chronicles with exploration.
- Entire skill set dedicated to exploration (Better chance to find artifacts, better artifacts, etc. Something along those lines)
- Make tasks such as Salvaging, Hacking, and Analyzing mini-games instead of just clicking a module. Skills would make the salvage, hacking, and archaeology loot better.
- An entire class of exploration ships. Each one has either a salvaging bonus, hacking bonus, or archaeology bonus. Maybe one with less of each bonus but all of them? (I.E. 1 ship with 5% increase in ____ skill per level of ____ ship skill. Ship with everything gives 2% increase in ____ skill per level of ____ ship skill)
- Give grav sites some exploration factor and not just mining belts.
- Make wormholes something that explorers shouldn't "sigh" when they find, but rather get extremely happy about. AKA make wormhole exploration somewhat solo friendly while maintaining the group aspect.
- New module that can be put in space to passively scan (while you are doing something else or afk) for sites every 30 minutes or hour. Make it pretty expensive with a good amount of skills required. Give a limit to how many you can have going at one time in a skill book.
- Keep the ability to passively mine, but add in a mini-game feature that lets you deeply analyze an asteroid and pick out the good bits.
- Give exhumers more PG and fitting options.
- Solar mining, moon mining, planet mining, deep core planet mining. Add new and intuitive, yet fun and learn-able games
that come with these.
- Add more skills for the actual mining process.
This is just off the top of my head. Let me know what you think. There's really so many things you can do with this game. A section about guns and ships would be astronomical. |

This is the most likely scenario, though in my case I'll probably stop online gaming altogether and go back to FOSS projects. Nagios/Icinga's horrible process monitoring is really starting to grate.
The second would be that cash-strapped governments start taxing every MMO or social game with a subscription, and CCP takes EvE FTP in self-defense.
I may have come here from Myst Online, but that does not make me any less bloodthirsty than the average Eve player.
Just more subtle.

2013: CCP Games realizes that every piece of advice uttered by player Istvaan Shogaatsu has been worth gold, improved the game, and increased subscriber numbers. Recognizing the divine correctness of his will, CCP hires Shogaatsu as creative czar, a newly created position with oversight into all aspects of Eve Online, and Dust 514.
2014: Following the implementation of Shogaatsu's "Veteran Player Initiative," where Eve's most dedicated and long-term players are awarded with the ability to create powerful vessels befitting their status, subscriber numbers soar to 80,000 concurrent/750,000 subscribed. Many lapsed veterans are drawn back to the game. The sudden spike in population fills CCP's coffers with hitherto-unseen amounts of funds, and under Shogaatsu's blessed advice, 15,000 further star systems are added to 0.0 space in a gradual campaign of exploration, mapping and gate-building which is left entirely up to the players.
2015: CCP Games becomes the largest, wealthiest business in Iceland. Eve Online, now relatively seamlessly integrated into Dust 514, makes the move to the newly launched PlayStation 4. While Eve Online's subscriber numbers are level at 100,000 concurrent/1.5 million, Dust 514 becomes "the reason people buy a PS4" after Shogaatsu's comprehensive re-design of planetary surfaces, and implementation of mass-destruction/tectonic effects, allowing players to bombard a radiant Eden-world until it looks like a ball of fire and challenging Dust mercenaries to fight on a planet as it was unmade around them.
2016: CCP Games completes a hostile acquisition of Sony's Playstation division.
2017: CCP Games completes a hostile acquisition of Sony Corporation.
2018: CCP Games completes takeover of Iceland, with 91.3% of the nation's population employed as GMs to manage the New Eden combined universe population of millions. (The remaining 8.7% are employed in 'shroom farms.) CCP Games renames Iceland to Sexland, tourism economy soars.
2019: Istvaan Shogaatsu, now scientifically proven to never be wrong, assumes command of NATO. All non-compliant nations brought brutally to heel by exoskeleton-armoured orbital drop troops trained on a strict regimen of Dust 514. Military resistance is swept aside.
2020: With mankind united under the golden leadership of Imperator Shogaatsu, and the hopeful vision of the future provided by the New Eden simulation (now subscribed to by 23.873% of humankind) all scientific research turns toward the conquest of space.
2023: The Indonesian betrayal.
2024: The extermination of Indonesia.
2030: Beginning of the first Decade WIthout War in recorded history.
2040: First child born on Mars.
2045: Fusion power.
2050: Peak oil. It comes largely un-noticed.
2075: Global pollution levels reduced to pre-industrial-revolution status.
2100: Establishment of Titan colony. First auto-constructor ships leave for Gliese 581.

It will happen, they have already over taxed everything you can drink eat or breath, even sex directly and indirectly are controlled and taxed, you just don't realise it because you are educated to not do it.
Internet is just at birth but countries like France are already over it to find ways to tax you by all possible means for "each click" (oc it's not per click but by content etc) -for the meanwhile their banks, just like American banks, haven't reimbursed public money they got to get out of "crisis" while still publishing hideous profits and taxing country debt interests for billions of our money

r32 moon alchemy as a bandage to the technetium bottleneck.
Implementation of alliance taxes.
SOV based on activity (NPC kills).
Escalating counter-bribing as defense against wardecs, so long as you have enough isk to keep doing so.
War dec aggressors have bounties applied to each of the corp's members. Only the defeder can attain these bounties by killing the aggressors. Any interfering party becomes a part of the war unti it has ended.
Transferable attribute points through new implants that allow the user to transfer a limited amount of attribute points, but can recieve a high or infinite amount of points.
More projected A.O.E weapons to fend off simpleton blob fleets.
Optional vein mining so as to allow a miner to target certain mineral concentrations in an individual asteroid. This allows miners to target specific minerals inside of specific asteroids.
Implementation of ship crews. |

2075: Global pollution levels reduced to pre-industrial-revolution status.
2100: Establishment of Titan colony. First auto-constructor ships leave for Gliese 581.

So yeah, basically do what I say or the world ends. Step 1: ships for veterans! 2125: Shogatsu becomes self aware.
Wait, wrong film.

Iceland to Be Renamed 'New Eden'
[This article has been reproduced with the kind permission of Time Magazine and originally appeared in their June 2019 issue.
The astounding rise of the once quiet northern european island nation of Iceland into a commercial superpower is to be celebrated in a 'renaming' ceremony held by the Icelandic government later this year. Iceland is to be renamed 'New Eden' in honour of entertainment industry juggernaught CCP's commercial achievements and service to their country and to the world
An improbable story to be sure, but the contributions made by what started life as a modest, yet ambitious, games development studio aiming to provide an immersive online 'internet spaceship' experience cannot be overestimated. After an initial ten-year period in which they were considered niche and were overshadowed by then market leaders Blizzard, their enterprise and dedication to a truly open 'sandbox' experience eventually provided CCP with the platform to exceed their competitors and surge into other markets
The appeal of their flagship product 'EVE Online' was infinitely broadened in 2011 by the introduction of real human avatars in the 'Incarna' revision of their futuristic world. After a low-key start, the then cutting-edge character creation and world interaction attracted an increasingly larger audience. The subsequent release of the initially console-only 'DUST 514' first person shooter enabled a further demographic to be drawn into the universe of New Eden. Utilising the same technology in 'World of Darkness', a gothic vampire MMO, continued to build the momentum. But the real masterstroke was the release of the Machinima toolkit that allowed users to make their own movies using the game worlds.
By 2013, the quality of user-created movies was often surpassing professionally-made television series and CCP found themselves courting the likes of James Cameron and J.J. Abrams. In 2014, the first EVE-based Hollywood movie, 'New Eden' won box-office acclaim (although purists claim that the entirely fan-made 'Clear Skies' television series, which aired on SyFy earlier the same year, was the real watershed) and cemented CCP's position as an entertainment superpower.
Meanwhile, with the explosion of interest in EVE Online and associated products, CCP's technological infrastructure was threatening to buckle. This gave rise to pioneering efforts in the field of technology and the invention of cold-fusion hyper-clusters, which was a quantum leap in the field of computing. This allowed for the millions of users to interact in a smooth virtual environment and finally eradicated the lag that had plagued busy game areas for years.
CCP's in-house technology team then went from strength-to-strength and the introduction of their retinal imaging projection systems in conjunction with Microsoft's Kinect technology allowed unprecedented levels of immersion. As well as revolutionising the entertainment viewing experience, by 2017 CCP was providing the 'de facto' standard total immersion social and business networking tools across the globe.
In 2018, the licencing of virtual real estate within EVE Online allowed the digital distribution of third party 'entertainment suites' - essentially games produced by third-party developers that were narratively consistent with EVE Online's universe - which gave birth to infinitely diverse 'cultures' on individual stations and planets. Player-run organisations within the universe could licence developers to practically build worlds for them. Many real-world corporations started to lay claim to systems and hire player alliances to protect the space above and defend their property on the surface beneath.
Today, in 2019, CCP stand literally and figuratively on top of the world. Iceland is now ranked as the 8th strongest economy in the world and is accredited with contributing to leading the world economy out of the austerity period. They continue to provide the most immersive science-fiction simulation available whilst simultaneously being major players in the technology and movie industries.
Whilst they have their detractors and some religious groups have expressed their objections to the renaming, there is no avoiding the fact that the future will be in New Eden.
And now the whole world is watching.

And shortly after the game of My Pretty Pony Care Bear Heaven that EVE becomes will implode in on itself as all the care bears and whiners cry themselves to sleep each night as the rest of us watch and wait, like wolves. WoW holds your hand until end game, and gives you a cookie whether you win or lose. EVE not only takes your cookie, but laughs at you for bringing one in the first place... |

I predict eve-onine will be dead, lost, and gone within 8-10 months. It's already on the way out. Too little to late CCP, your goose is nearly cooked and you don't even know it. CCP jumped the shark when they started selling isk. EVE became PAY to win many moons ago, the sandbox lost all its sand, and CCP in general are walking around with blinders on. Herpdy Derp lets watch it all go down in flames. By the way i'm sure the IRS will be interested in your isk for real life goods transaction. How are you gonna get that past them? CCP crossed the line when the offered a video card for in-game isk. Its a damn slippery slope and your now at the bottom of said slope. 8-10 months is all i give eve. |

kk I'll float some whimsical long term notions for you -
(1) DUST boarding parties tasked with taking out specifically targeted modules on battleship and capitol class vessel
(2) "Star Interaction" allows sunspot resources to become available. A ship module triggers star flair ejection to allow EVEs equivalent to ELITE sun-scooping. New fuel types add a whole new dimension to warp speeds making what fuel you are packing a factor in large fleet combat. Star orbits become blindingly beautiful battlegrounds
(3) Jovian/Sleeper empire collapse, i.e. alpha clone reset, opening up Jovian space for r&d and introducing the fifth character class integration. |

Heh, In ten years EVE online will only be an occasional mention in some obscure geek chatroom when they talk about really messed up games and why they went bust.
Probably closer to the truth than what most players think. |

!. There will eventually be a SP limit. Probably around 300 mil SP, in order to insure the uber elite still need to specialize.
2. They will do one of two things. 1) they will become deathly afraid of displeasing the vocal playerbase and continue to not correct goofy game mechanics in fear of upsetting those that have become used to the brokenness and ragequit when threatened with a changed mechanic/tatics. The game continues to be somewhat borked. 2) or they will realize that its not about how many subscriptions you have, but the quality of the game itself. They they will make changes that will force some of the uber elite to change gameplay/tatics which causes a lot of rage quits and forum rage. Eve continues with a somewhat smaller playerbase, but a better quality game. |

I predict one of 2 outcomes, we could get some super shiny, establishments, WiS and dust!!111 OMGOMG,and an overly safe hisec and an ignored low/null....OR eve becomes the complete wildwest, nothing and on one is safe, and mentioning 'incarna' is a bannable offense.
I truely hope it will be the second option, but I sadly think we will be getting something along the lines of the first option. I traded my free aurum for a recon ship, so thanks I guess. |

Ten years? In the tech world, that's a LONG time.
- We'll have upgraded to an entirely new server which accommodates millions of players - DUST and EVE will be fully integrated, and corporeal representations of avatars will be traversing the worlds freely - A 3rd game, social in nature, will have augmented and tied into the EVE universe, allowing millions of people to live, fight and die in New Eden.
And, of course, we'll all be using head-mounted immersion displays. |

Gunfights on Titans between alliances.
DUST/EVE players seamlessly fight with/against each other inside a Titan, mid-battle, AND you can see outside the titan's windows to see the battle.
War barges flying across the battlefield on collision course with the enemy super capital/titan. some Capsuleers dock up into the super cap/titan, and the ship that they dock in with, powers their suits with it's mods and resistances. (as nonsense and stupid as that sounds, a man can fantasize) and fight along side dust mercs to defend the titan pilot. (kind of like BF2142, except the last objective, you'd be throwing C4 on the capsule)
OK that sounds epic and it uses WiS to FiS.
