Edited by: DAVK on 12/01/2009 17:28:54 EVE. 5 years ago this game was a revolution of all PC world. Big universe big possibility. But what i see today? Is there the end of peaceful life in EVE? Anything is for 0.0. And what about players who live in empires?
5 years ago you can mine belt the whole day. What's now? Now you can do it for 10 minutes. What is the fun to mine weak belts? Living in imperias you cannot harvesting moons in highsec systems. Secret belts are too small. Why? Why cannot we have our own stations in highsec? I and many other players just don't like pvp. What will we do in highsec? We - civilian people - pay the same money to play EVE as others. Or not?
So what on my opinion must be changed in EVE in future:
-extension of asteroid mass(for big gang); -extension of close belts(for big gang); -more possibilities for manufacturing and reserch; -possibility of harvesting and reactions in highsecs; -more various ships for civilians; -corporation stations in highsec systems; (or platform for player) -personal POS or partial access for all members of corp;
In short, please don't forget about civilian people. Developers do many things for wars and for fights. But many people in EVE don't like pvp. Make their play time interesting and funny too.
p/s no funs player kills. more fun play in impire: corp mining, manufacturing, reserch.

EVE is a PvP game. You cannot have all those things you listed free for anyone to have because that would make EVE PVP meaningless.

higher risk = higher reward. Having said that though, it is possible to be a realative carebear and move beyond the confines of empire... there are entire industrial corps that live or rent space in 0.0. The people that are out there have need for miners and industrialists probably alot more than anyone in empire that doesnt get into alot of fights.
The world is not a kind and happy go lucky place, even in empire you aren't safe undocking your ship.

With the upcoming retail box CCP **MUST** already be aware that most MMO addicts do not like to lose the items they gain.
For the majority of players MMO's are about accumulating stuff - skills, items, whatever.
The OP raises a valid concern, which ofc is insta trolled before brain cells were engaged.
Also we have to remember its those carebears that keep the economy rolling. As pvp'ers who cares what the carebears get as long as we still get a good deal?

Now while I can't disagree with most of the stuff you said, the reason you can't build stations in highsec is probably because If you didn't limit them there'd probably be so many it'd be a problem, if you did there wouldn't be enough space. Roleplaying wise you probably would have the rights to. --- Trolling a forum near you.

I don't think things should be any more safe for "civilians" I do think more diverse things for them to do wold be good, "war effort" material donations for faction and things like that would be interesting.

Well, I find it takes a bit longer in certain belts. There are some with the 10k ore rocks, but others have massive ones as well, often those far from any system. A huge gang can strip mine, sure but one person can spend quite a while contently mining in average space. Also, do not forget that with the march expansion will come epic, real story story lines. Should become quite good for the solo and pve ers. As for not having everything in high sec, on the flip side, the people who fight and work massive low/null sec, what would be there enticement for their time investment? It is no different than any other mmo, best rewards are the greatest fight to get.

There are POS's in high sec. I see them all the time in 0.5 space. You just need to be able to obtain sovereignty with the faction that owns the region. I am a carebear through and through, and I enjoy the game plenty without pvp. Maybe you have overstayed your welcome, and it is time to move on to another game until you are bored with that game too......... |

What interest did you find in null sec? - Me and many many other players find NOTHING INTERSTING there. Just track for number of empire residents (it's realy huge) then go to your nulls to wither away. I don't wanna mine arkonor here in high sec - do it yourself^^ Stantions in 0.0 you use to hiding from enemy. You can sit there and wait. We need stations for manufacturing. Why Corporations can use just many lagy POS? Give us a station! The engine of EVE was disbalanced when first POS was established for null-sec's players. They became elite of EVE community. What about us - simple civilians? We still playing and have just "scraps from table.." from table of null-sec's players(

- You're competing with other miners for the resources in the belts. - You're competing with other manufacturers to sell your goods. - You're competing with other people to research blueprints.
You're PVP-ing, precisely because asteroid belts aren't bigger, slots are limited and all the other things you lack. You're just not doing it in the obvious pewpew way. |

Actually, in the game folklore, pod pilots are considered to be gods by most, so that fact that we can't build/own our own stations, anywhere, baffels me!

ok, so if this is your opinion I call upon ALL industrials to lay down your work for a month and see how much pvp is done then, and with industrials I also mean people in alliances building stuff.
you say EVE is only pvp, I say EVE has the biggest economy and is quite possibly the ONLY mmo out there in which you can seriously climb without pvping |

No one said EVE is only pvp, but eve is, like it or not, a PVP Game.
A) EVE is advertised as Full PVP. This means PVP is allowed everywhere, however some NPC might shoot back. B) You can be killed any place, any time.

EVE is, in essence, all pvp, all the time.
When you buy or sell something on the empire markets, you are engaging in a PVP act. When you mine ore, whether you trash it or use/sell it, you are engaging in a PVP act. When you undock, whether it may see like it or not, you engage in a PVP act.
Basically, DAVK, 5 years ago when you started, there were not enough people to adequately lay claim to certain pockets of 0.0 space; that's why you were 'able to mine in peace' there.
Since EVE has expanded in its player base, player corporations and alliances have begun laying claim to these resource rich corners of EVE space, and essentially 'kicked you out'. As was mentioned, you COULD try and gain membership in one of these alliances as a non-PVP member, and engage solely in your industrial activities as you wish. However, if you expect to have a no-non-consensual combat gameplay experience, you may be better off simply playing on the test server, as you will not have to compete with other players in any way, shape or form there.
I used to be an industrialist myself, and let me tell you, I was rather upset when the region my friends and I, along with a few other small corps, was steamrolled by a monopolizing corporation that stripped the belts we mined and effectively forced us out of the markets with their superior logistical backbone.
So yeah, even the EVE industry is PVP - you just might not see it that way, since you're not seeing the people crying in local.
If you want to see the markets really break, then your suggestions should be implemented. Your profit margins will get smaller and smaller as more and more of these tycoons set up shop in empire, having to spend far less of their time and resources on defenses, producing far more goods than they used to do already.
You would find yourself with such a small profit margin, you would begin wondering what the point in even bothering is, and find yourself either leaving the game due to a lack of competitive capability or twiddling your thumbs waiting for the next few dozen k isk to finally roll into your wallet.

Saying that Eve is a PvP game avoids and ignores the original post, and is to an increasingly large extent inaccurate.
Eve is, if anything, a fleet warfare game .. the fact that players are behind the controls of the squares you target doesn't really matter if you ask me.
I too would love to see more content for empire dwellers. CCP has spent a lot of time trying to make empire unprofitable/unappealing to make people move into low-sec/null-sec to no avail.
I hope that the worm-hole stuff and expansion of exploration/missions will make empire life suck not so much .. casual players have next to nothing to do in this game.
A large proportion of the playerbase doesn't have hours on end to play so empire is really the only place they can be if they want to actually play the game. Null-sec might be possible, but what if you want to trade or manufacture? Not to mention spending half a log-in cycle (many hours) camped into a station by a blob. Low-sec is a vile appalling place, the only reason one would go there is as a pirate, FW pilot or 'passer through'. Income potential just does not scale well for the risks you take by going there for it to be worthwhile

Better yet, why not just introduce another class of people? When walking around in stations becomes a feature and very prominent, why not use that time to introduce a non-pilot character class that CANNOT FLY ANYTHING, including shuttles. They must take a different type of shuttle that is a space taxi if they wish to go to other stations.
Now, they can go from station to station within a system with relative ease because the Space Taxi business would have regular times. Additionally, give players the ability to transport others as sort of an expedited Taxi that is not subject to the same time schedule as the NPC Space Taxis. All fares should be standardized within empire within reason. However, the player Taxis would be able to charge what they want.
Also, players that cannot leave stations should get MAJOR benefits in regards to commerce and trade over pod pilots due to their landlubber lifestyle. Their innate abilities to barter and trade make them the ultimate commerce being. Maybe even have players that act like Mafioso and provide "protection" for their merchants and threaten the competition in regards to pricing and what wares they are "allowed" to offer. CONCORD comes in, does a few stings, and the Mafia underground falls and you're back to square one. Sitting in the damned station whining about life when you should be living it.
Don't forget druglords as well. Smuggling should proceed to new heights with the invention of the "Care Bear Supreme" class. Imagine being able to smuggle boosters and pills and stuff in dead bodies and inside of Livestock prior to their slaughter for food.
Food! There's another one. Why not have ALL pod pilots and non pilots be forced to maintain sustenance or they'll whither to nothing. They can also only carry a certain amount of food based upon the size of the ship and its purpose. Cov ops and Force Recons should have the most of the sub capital ships since they are always on the frontline or scouting. BS class ships could be a close second. Capitals and Super Caps should have a year's worth of food and drink. How are we going to calculate that hunger? But, imagine how many new jobs the non-pilot characters can do? Become a baker, butcher, or a Susie-F'ing-homemaker if you want. That'd definitely be something to seen.
I sure hope they don't have prostitution rings in the game when this happens. Although, it'd be funny to see a "pimp" slapping his money out of his "girls" because he/she are skimming ISK off the top for their "services" to pod pilots.
Anything else stupid to suggest? You DO realize that if empire belts get enlarged, those of us that fly 0.0 will probably make off WAY better than you will? In fact, I'm sure you'd notice how quickly the market would crash if they did that. Veldspar - .05 isk per, woot!
Honestly, they should just make a new type of militia for you to join so that only YOUR people can get access to those belts and mining plexes. That'd be a LOT more doable than anything else you've suggested. You'd of course have to restrict those "civilian" ships to only members of those civie factions.
How can you possibly expect to balance the rest of the game to accommodate these changes you just proposed? |
