Edited by: DAVK on 12/01/2009 17:28:54 EVE. 5 years ago this game was a revolution of all PC world. Big universe big possibility. But what i see today? Is there the end of peaceful life in EVE? Anything is for 0.0. And what about players who live in empires?
5 years ago you can mine belt the whole day. What's now? Now you can do it for 10 minutes. What is the fun to mine weak belts? Living in imperias you cannot harvesting moons in highsec systems. Secret belts are too small. Why? Why cannot we have our own stations in highsec? I and many other players just don't like pvp. What will we do in highsec? We - civilian people - pay the same money to play EVE as others. Or not?
So what on my opinion must be changed in EVE in future:
-extension of asteroid mass(for big gang); -extension of close belts(for big gang); -more possibilities for manufacturing and reserch; -possibility of harvesting and reactions in highsecs; -more various ships for civilians; -corporation stations in highsec systems; (or platform for player) -personal POS or partial access for all members of corp;
In short, please don't forget about civilian people. Developers do many things for wars and for fights. But many people in EVE don't like pvp. Make their play time interesting and funny too.
p/s no funs player kills. more fun play in impire: corp mining, manufacturing, reserch.

higher risk = higher reward. Having said that though, it is possible to be a realative carebear and move beyond the confines of empire... there are entire industrial corps that live or rent space in 0.0. The people that are out there have need for miners and industrialists probably alot more than anyone in empire that doesnt get into alot of fights.
The world is not a kind and happy go lucky place, even in empire you aren't safe undocking your ship.

With the upcoming retail box CCP **MUST** already be aware that most MMO addicts do not like to lose the items they gain.
For the majority of players MMO's are about accumulating stuff - skills, items, whatever.
The OP raises a valid concern, which ofc is insta trolled before brain cells were engaged.
Also we have to remember its those carebears that keep the economy rolling. As pvp'ers who cares what the carebears get as long as we still get a good deal?

Now while I can't disagree with most of the stuff you said, the reason you can't build stations in highsec is probably because If you didn't limit them there'd probably be so many it'd be a problem, if you did there wouldn't be enough space. Roleplaying wise you probably would have the rights to. --- Trolling a forum near you.

Well, I find it takes a bit longer in certain belts. There are some with the 10k ore rocks, but others have massive ones as well, often those far from any system. A huge gang can strip mine, sure but one person can spend quite a while contently mining in average space. Also, do not forget that with the march expansion will come epic, real story story lines. Should become quite good for the solo and pve ers. As for not having everything in high sec, on the flip side, the people who fight and work massive low/null sec, what would be there enticement for their time investment? It is no different than any other mmo, best rewards are the greatest fight to get.

There are POS's in high sec. I see them all the time in 0.5 space. You just need to be able to obtain sovereignty with the faction that owns the region. I am a carebear through and through, and I enjoy the game plenty without pvp. Maybe you have overstayed your welcome, and it is time to move on to another game until you are bored with that game too......... |

What interest did you find in null sec? - Me and many many other players find NOTHING INTERSTING there. Just track for number of empire residents (it's realy huge) then go to your nulls to wither away. I don't wanna mine arkonor here in high sec - do it yourself^^ Stantions in 0.0 you use to hiding from enemy. You can sit there and wait. We need stations for manufacturing. Why Corporations can use just many lagy POS? Give us a station! The engine of EVE was disbalanced when first POS was established for null-sec's players. They became elite of EVE community. What about us - simple civilians? We still playing and have just "scraps from table.." from table of null-sec's players(

No one said EVE is only pvp, but eve is, like it or not, a PVP Game.
A) EVE is advertised as Full PVP. This means PVP is allowed everywhere, however some NPC might shoot back. B) You can be killed any place, any time.

EVE is, in essence, all pvp, all the time.
When you buy or sell something on the empire markets, you are engaging in a PVP act. When you mine ore, whether you trash it or use/sell it, you are engaging in a PVP act. When you undock, whether it may see like it or not, you engage in a PVP act.
Basically, DAVK, 5 years ago when you started, there were not enough people to adequately lay claim to certain pockets of 0.0 space; that's why you were 'able to mine in peace' there.
Since EVE has expanded in its player base, player corporations and alliances have begun laying claim to these resource rich corners of EVE space, and essentially 'kicked you out'. As was mentioned, you COULD try and gain membership in one of these alliances as a non-PVP member, and engage solely in your industrial activities as you wish. However, if you expect to have a no-non-consensual combat gameplay experience, you may be better off simply playing on the test server, as you will not have to compete with other players in any way, shape or form there.
I used to be an industrialist myself, and let me tell you, I was rather upset when the region my friends and I, along with a few other small corps, was steamrolled by a monopolizing corporation that stripped the belts we mined and effectively forced us out of the markets with their superior logistical backbone.
So yeah, even the EVE industry is PVP - you just might not see it that way, since you're not seeing the people crying in local.
If you want to see the markets really break, then your suggestions should be implemented. Your profit margins will get smaller and smaller as more and more of these tycoons set up shop in empire, having to spend far less of their time and resources on defenses, producing far more goods than they used to do already.
You would find yourself with such a small profit margin, you would begin wondering what the point in even bothering is, and find yourself either leaving the game due to a lack of competitive capability or twiddling your thumbs waiting for the next few dozen k isk to finally roll into your wallet.

Saying that Eve is a PvP game avoids and ignores the original post, and is to an increasingly large extent inaccurate.
Eve is, if anything, a fleet warfare game .. the fact that players are behind the controls of the squares you target doesn't really matter if you ask me.
I too would love to see more content for empire dwellers. CCP has spent a lot of time trying to make empire unprofitable/unappealing to make people move into low-sec/null-sec to no avail.
I hope that the worm-hole stuff and expansion of exploration/missions will make empire life suck not so much .. casual players have next to nothing to do in this game.
A large proportion of the playerbase doesn't have hours on end to play so empire is really the only place they can be if they want to actually play the game. Null-sec might be possible, but what if you want to trade or manufacture? Not to mention spending half a log-in cycle (many hours) camped into a station by a blob. Low-sec is a vile appalling place, the only reason one would go there is as a pirate, FW pilot or 'passer through'. Income potential just does not scale well for the risks you take by going there for it to be worthwhile

Better yet, why not just introduce another class of people? When walking around in stations becomes a feature and very prominent, why not use that time to introduce a non-pilot character class that CANNOT FLY ANYTHING, including shuttles. They must take a different type of shuttle that is a space taxi if they wish to go to other stations.
Now, they can go from station to station within a system with relative ease because the Space Taxi business would have regular times. Additionally, give players the ability to transport others as sort of an expedited Taxi that is not subject to the same time schedule as the NPC Space Taxis. All fares should be standardized within empire within reason. However, the player Taxis would be able to charge what they want.
Also, players that cannot leave stations should get MAJOR benefits in regards to commerce and trade over pod pilots due to their landlubber lifestyle. Their innate abilities to barter and trade make them the ultimate commerce being. Maybe even have players that act like Mafioso and provide "protection" for their merchants and threaten the competition in regards to pricing and what wares they are "allowed" to offer. CONCORD comes in, does a few stings, and the Mafia underground falls and you're back to square one. Sitting in the damned station whining about life when you should be living it.
Don't forget druglords as well. Smuggling should proceed to new heights with the invention of the "Care Bear Supreme" class. Imagine being able to smuggle boosters and pills and stuff in dead bodies and inside of Livestock prior to their slaughter for food.
Food! There's another one. Why not have ALL pod pilots and non pilots be forced to maintain sustenance or they'll whither to nothing. They can also only carry a certain amount of food based upon the size of the ship and its purpose. Cov ops and Force Recons should have the most of the sub capital ships since they are always on the frontline or scouting. BS class ships could be a close second. Capitals and Super Caps should have a year's worth of food and drink. How are we going to calculate that hunger? But, imagine how many new jobs the non-pilot characters can do? Become a baker, butcher, or a Susie-F'ing-homemaker if you want. That'd definitely be something to seen.
I sure hope they don't have prostitution rings in the game when this happens. Although, it'd be funny to see a "pimp" slapping his money out of his "girls" because he/she are skimming ISK off the top for their "services" to pod pilots.
Anything else stupid to suggest? You DO realize that if empire belts get enlarged, those of us that fly 0.0 will probably make off WAY better than you will? In fact, I'm sure you'd notice how quickly the market would crash if they did that. Veldspar - .05 isk per, woot!
Honestly, they should just make a new type of militia for you to join so that only YOUR people can get access to those belts and mining plexes. That'd be a LOT more doable than anything else you've suggested. You'd of course have to restrict those "civilian" ships to only members of those civie factions.
How can you possibly expect to balance the rest of the game to accommodate these changes you just proposed? |

You don't realy understand what is DAVK talking about. And your arguments uneccessary. You know why? I'll tell you. I'll try using your definitions:
Even EVE is a PVP game (i don't think so myself) as you say..DAVK just wanna say that those PVPers who do it without killing actually have scanty of that have PVPers who do kill other players. If EVE is PVP game then EVE is not ballanced game in fact. Because Developers do anything for killer-PVPers but almost nothing for peacefully PVPers)))) And this is realy so.
But you see how this funny - using your terminology.))) I prefer to call a spade a spade. And manufacturers and miners are not PvPers. They not "versus" they all together, one by one))) And if sometime we have problems with selling our products on market or with belts doesn't it mean that we all have a problem with EVE's engine????
EVE pretends to be a model of real life, great and unique game. But EVE will not be something we all wish about till Developers begin do something for civilian players , not only for nullsec-fighters. |

Transport ships were made safer than they were before.
Jump Freighters were invented, making it far easier for 'non PVP players' to navigate low-sec and 0.0 with vast quantities of precious cargo.
The Orca was created.
Alchemy was implemented.
A lot has been done for industrialists and miners.
You say that people mining, manufacturing and trading aren't engaging in PVP? I used to make a lot of isk and had a fairly large and stable client base in the Khanid region, in the first year or so that I was playing.
A megacorp of about 400 people came into the region and began monopolizing the markets there, taking my client base and destroying my ability to make a reasonable amount of isk in the region, as they saturated the markets.
That was a group of PLAYERS coming and ruining what I was doing. In other words, that was a PVP event, as those players did something against me, another player.
I've been accused of ignoring the op's original post, so let me go through the changes he wants systematically, and say what I think is wrong with them.
"So what on my opinion must be changed in EVE in future:"
-extension of asteroid mass(for big gang); If the asteroids you are trying to mine do not have enough units in them, then you are mining in a hotspot. If your 'big gang' shifts their attention to a less mined area, they are very likely to find asteroids that they cannot strip to 0 units in less than a day's mining - they may however still have to distribute themselves across multiple belts or systems, rather than focusing on one belt.
I don't support increasing the unit count on asteroids, as it simply gives those downtime-stripping belts more ore to strip before they go do something else or stip another belt; their mining life is easy enough, it needn't be made even easier.
-extension of close belts(for big gang); I don't quite understand this one, but I imagine he doesn't like how 'big' belts are. I don't support making belts even more compact just so that mining gangs have less moving around to do in order to keep mining. This would again make it even more of a lazy avenue to success than it already is.
-more possibilities for manufacturing and reserch; Such as?
There are so many possibilities in the industrial world now, a calculation I used to be able to do with notepad and calculator in a few minutes now easily takes me an hour to get done - I'm having to resort to using Excel so as not to go crazy.
-possibility of harvesting and reactions in highsecs; No. Moon Mining and Reactions are almost 100% passive activities, and are related to manufacturing Tech2 equipment/ships. This should be restricted to low-sec so as to force those wanting to get involved in T2 manufacturing to either go to low-sec to create their own reactions or to buy from those that ARE going through that risk.
-more various ships for civilians; Examples?
-corporation stations in highsec systems; (or platform for player) I don't understand what you mean with this one.
-personal POS or partial access for all members of corp; This is already being looked into as a kind of personal habitation module for players - their own little 'station' floating in space.

It's too sad, Onys what happend with you. But this doesn't mean all players do so. As i said we even don't product warships: no ships for war, no weapon, no charge. Not PvP players wanna have fun playing EVE, we wanna Developers did civilian life in Empiers more different and interesting. We don't wanna PvP in it's any forms, we don't wanna kill other players, we don't wanna go to 0.0 , we just a civilian peaceful players and we wanna find our place in big (and the same time so a little) space of EVE.
The truth is in EVE you can find many many ways to DESTROY and there are just a few ways to play and have fun without destroing or killing (to CREATE).

The only way to avoid a player vs player situation in Eve is to run missions in high sec. From where I am sitting, that appears to consist of about 5% of the sandbox CCP has created. Everything else in this game is affected by other players. To say that Eve is not a PVP game is wrong.
This game is not what it was 5 years ago. The player base has increased and things have become more competitive. High sec mining became extremely competitive when the Orca print was released. Maybe it is just not for you anymore.

First Hand and Two Wing are the one and the same person as the OP. Look at the way they all write the word "funny" (amusingly enough, it comes out as "fany")
Anyway, to add content: What a terrible idea. The opportunities for non-direct PvP play in this game are considerable as it stands and, whilst they might need some tweaking here and there, they are generally sound.
That is all. |

Joel was a Carpenter. Not wishing harm to any in the world, he decided to create only wooden toys for children and furniture for families.
The wooden figurines that Joel built were played with by Irvine. The chair that Joel built was sat on by Irvine. The table that Joel built was worked at by Irvine.
Irvine grew up seeing the war and strife in the world and decided he would take up arms to try and defend others. By the comfort of the chair and the utilization of the table that Joel built, he was afforded the workspace to use the figurines he had played with in his childhood to devise strategies and understand the tactics used by the great leaders of the nations' millitaries.
And so, Joel had facilitated the growth of Irvine into a man of war, a man that would lead others to kill and to destroy; whether to defend their country or invade another.
Frank was a coal miner. Wanting nothing for his country than to help the economy thrive so as to create a better life for himself and his family, he toiled away in the mines day after day.
And so his country's economy improved. Working as one of many, they provided the fossil fuels required to create the power their country would use and to fuel the fires of the foundries in his country. This power was used to drive automated factories, further improving the output of the country, allowing them to export to other nations, who in a situation of economic instability had little choice but to buy these exports so as to attempt to stabilise their economies.
And so Frank facilitated a decrease in work for those in fields relating to his country's exports, as less workers were required for a time to produce goods that could be readily and cheaply bought form his country.
I could list any number of other examples, but fact of the matter is, simply breathing in the real world affects the lives of other people; it's a little concept known as the butterfly effect.
There is virtually nothing you can do in EVE that will not affect other players, unless you are, as a lone individual, running missions and never putting ANY of the resources gained from them to the markets. Never buying anything, never selling anything, never producing anything for other players to use, whether you have donated them or not.

Edited by: Sedious Bloke on 17/01/2009 09:18:08 The backbone of eve 1. You get richer because someone somewhere just got poorer 2. Higher risk yields higher reward 3. The engine that drives your sales is pvp which is what eve is all about in many shapes and forms
Those that have a problem with these concepts are playing the wrong game. The devs want to push you out onto the beach not just have you play in a small sandbox. The devs want people to work together on this beach because it is after all massively multi player game. Some players seem to never grasp this and demand year after year that what makes eve eve be changed because they wont come play with the rest of us.
At it's heart eve is in fact a pvp game because it's the epic wars and battles being fought by the people who get it that fuels all other aspects of eve. It has always been this way and until the end it always will be.
The reason you will never have what you want is the same reason eve now has 300k subscribers. There are hundreds of thousands of people out there that understand and enjoy the basic foundations of eve. If all these people are having such a good time perhaps they know something you don't ;)
Good luck on getting wow in space though maybe if you and people like you that don't get it keep trying for another 5 years you might get your way and finally kill eve for the rest of us.
You may often wonder why so many people go out of their way to make you unhappy even at great loss to themselves. It's because we see you as a threat to the very existence of our favorite game and perhaps if we finally crack enough of you by causing you hard ship you'll finally either get it or leave so that eve will live.
