I ran into a Most Interesting Mission today.
Sabotaged =======================
Mission briefing: ----------------------- We just recieved a distress signal coming from one of our surveillance teams. Apparently one of our convoys has ground to a halt, unexplicably, and we are also unable to open a communication channel with them. This particular convoy was transporting a very important ancient relic from a private collection here in Illinfrik VII - Moon 12 - Pator Tech School. I'm afraid something terrible may have happened, could you please head out there and investigate. It's probably just a mechanical failure, but we need you to make sure. Nothing must happen to that relic!
Objectives ----------------------- To complete the mission, the following must be performed by you: one unit of Special Delivery must be provided at Illinfrik VII - Moon 12 - Pator Tech School two Angel Depredators and one Angel Liquidator must be destroyed in Balginia five Angel Hunters and one Angel Marauder must be destroyed in Illinfrik one Arch Angel Legionnaire and two Angel Hunters must be destroyed in Frarn
Rewards ----------------------- Upon completing the mission, the following will be awarded to you: 80000 credits
Bonus Rewards ----------------------- The following bonuses may be awarded to you: eight units of Small Projectile Turret at Illinfrik VII - Moon 12 - Pator Tech School - if you complete the mission before 2004.07.27 14:00
Extra Info ----------------------- Do not attack the first encounter unless provoked.
Now despite the listing of 3 differnt attack groups I only had One Bookmark. So I went off to Investigate.
When I got there I Saw 3 Fleet Tempests and a little Pop up Box apeared which said. "Thank goodness you're here Ya'Risse. A few groups of secret agents working for the Angel Cartel managed to infiltrate our ships and sabotage our warp drives and communication devices. This caused us to become stuck here in the middle of nowhere with no way of contacting our home base. Unfortunately they managed to use an escape pod to get away, and were picked up by a few of their friends. And more importantly, they have the ancient relic in their posession!!
Please, we need you to chase them down. The escape pods were rigged, which allows us to track them down and supply you with a bookmark to them, for now. You don't have alot of time before they manage to escape out of our reach, so hurry!"
And I found I had 3 new Bookmarks. So I went to each system and did the usual Mission stuff and completed the Objective. I'd like to Thank CCP for this mission, It was quite fun doing it, Even if the Reward was a little awful for the Effort Involved. Oh and Each Spawn Droped a Special Delivery, the mission only Calls for one.

I was just about to post about this one. A bit confusing and I totally hated the miniscule pop-up (copy and paste into empty chat channel...)
Funny thing is:
(a) you apparently do NOT get any faction or corp standing hit for shooting at those convoy ships - in my case three very well-armed and very functional Mercenary Overlord battleships. Took a few potshots but then stayed clear, being in a cruiser and in a rush .-)
(b) the convoy ships persisted after the mission had been completed.
Three questions for zrakor and maybe a fourth:
(1) Is there a timer that requires you to pursue the thieves right away or they won't spawn at all?
(2) Why the warning to not attack the supposedly disabled convoy ships - webbing at 30 km hardly made them appear disabled...?
(3) Why three packages when the mission requires only one?
Optional (4): Are we play-testing new missions again?
EDIT: After upgrading my hardware (BIG guns and a second ship), those three Overlords perished in a shower of light and a hailstorm of missiles. No faction or corp hit for mopping up after mission completion. Niiiiiiiiice.

(1) No timer as such at the moment, it would require a new feature which won't be implemented till Shiva atleast.
(2) The warning was placed as "dummie" protection. It's an optional encounter so it does not appear in the objectives, but some players might attack them on sight and get blown to bits before they notice they are dealing with battleships.
As for the second part of the question, the pirates only disabled the warp drives and communication devices in the convoy ships. They can still fight back, they just can't warp away or communicate with their corporation.
(3) This is a bug, I'm hoping it will be fixed before tomorrows hotpatch.
(4) Actually we have an active testing department and a bunch of bughunters which test the missions for us (or are supposed to anyway, atleast our testing department ).

Does this mean that CONCORD won't attack you if you kill those battleships?

Very good solution that way. I suspected the warning was a way to protect the GM queue from the whiners
I like the fact that the ships stick around: Give people a chance to call in the cavalry and tackle those ships with support.

You guys have a testing department? And it's active? I can assure everybody that that is merely a vicious and utterly unsubstantiated rumor spread by overworked developers
Seriously, thanks for a great mission and the quick reply!

I just got this mission for the first time today and accidentally returned to the initial bookmark.
This causes the popup to reappear and 3 new bookmarks to be generated (or clones of the original ones). After returning to complete the mission, without warping to the new bookmarks, they were not removed by the completion dialogue.
Other than that, a cool mission. Seeing 3 tempests whilst flying around in a crow freaked me though

Just so I'm crystal clear:
You CAN attack the escort battelships? With no faction decrease and no CONCORD or sentry pwnage? They do at least fight back right? Why would you be allowed to attack a convoy you were supposed to protect (or at least help) without any repurcussions? Am I missing something here?

Yes you can.....because they were sabotaged and so have no way of warping off or communicating to the rest of their faction that you attacked them

Well, my precious Overlords did have bounties on their knuckleheads and they DID foul up the job they had been hired to do.
What kind of a message would it have sent to the mercenary community at large if I had allowed them to get away?
Btw, the battleships WERE the convoy. No additional vessel to be seen anywhere.

Edited by: Karol Kei on 27/07/2004 21:16:22 I just got this mission, and killed the three megathrons that were the convoy with no hits to my standings.
I am getting even more special delivery pachages here, btw. One from the megas and one from each spawn bookmark makes it 4 in total.
