By that I mean, is there some legaleeze that defines my rights as a buyer? I know the EULA and Terms of Service state all the rights of CCP, and all the things I cant do. But where the stuff that says what CCP has to do for me?

Your $15 is basically a contract with CCP; the EULA/TOS are the terms of that contract.
You have no rights.

Your rights as a renter, you mean. You don't actually buy anything. You rent the (limited) right to access the system and do stuff inside. You never actually own anything inside. CCP magnanimously promises that they won't mess with the character you created on their system and the stuff it (the character) obtained unless you make them really, really angry or feel like messing with you for some reason.
Quote: But where the stuff that says what CCP has to do for me?
They have to allow you access to the system for (most of) the time period you paid for, as long as you follow the general rules of conduct. As soon as you breach any of those rules, you forefit the remaining subscription time, and they can block your access at their leisure. They can also refuse to keep granting you access while investigations are conducted, or simply say "you know, we don't want you anymore" without needing to name a reason.
And that's about the extent of the legalese involved. _ Create a character || Fit a ship || Get some ISK |

Edited by: Akita T on 17/01/2009 01:36:53 Oh, oh, wait : you DO have a right. You have the right to quit your subscription at any time without suffering any financial penalty whatsoever
Hey, it beats the subscription models mobile phone companies or most ISPs have...
P.S. Just imagine it...
Quote: EVE-Online : FREE* for the first 15 days ! Only 10.95 a month** !
* Subscribing means you enter a binding contract for 24 months. The penalty of early contract cancelling is 299.95. Cancellation must be announced in writing 60 days prior to actual cancellation.
** Only if you pay one year in advance.

I'm not entirely sure, but perhaps ask in the "Exploration" Channel to see if they know. Also be sure to mention "waypost" somewhere in the question, that gets you an extra-special, four-lettered answer!

Actually if we are going to get technical here...
When you create an account, you OWN that account. The account is yours, you are not renting it. You own the account because you pay for it.
Whether or not you have access to it however is up to CCP.

And how, pray tell, do you "own" that account ? The actual bits on the server or what ? I mean, since everything posted by you on any of the CCP sites or using any of the in-game methods AUTOMATICALLY becomes CCP IP as per the terms you agreed on.

Don't do it kids. Just 'cause it sounds all official and CCP-like doesn't mean it is.

Edited by: Sheriff Jones on 17/01/2009 07:38:48 A serious answer:
You get to post here, if CCP feel like it. You can get to the server, if CCP feel like it.
That's it. You own nothing, you get nothing, and basically, you're paying for nothing.

Lotta answers, but no actual source. Ive read the TOS and EULA. There is a lot about what I dont get to do, not much on what I do get to do.
For example, legally, if the server is down for 20 days, did I get what I paid for? I pay for access to the server. If its down, am I getting my service?

My answer was, by all intentions, apt.
It's right there, they can, if notified, close the server for as long as they want. to some extent even without informing people.
Not compensating this would ofcourse be a PR suicide, but legally, you don't have any rights.
My opinions represent the opinions of my corporation completely. I'm the CEO damnit. |

but, if i remember right, in the U.S. a few judges have ruled that software EULA, are not legally binding, it might different for mmo as you have to connect to their servers to play the game, read the EULA on some for your PC games, you'll find, its basically says you paid $50 for a game but they the company can stop letting you play anytime we feel like it
