No, it's not. You're doing it wrong.
This, TBH.
I've spent months ninja ratting in a Raven with no ship losses at all.
Just have to keep your wits about you, and plan well.

it isnt just the ship, but the combination of skills, attitudes, and ship that makes a good ratting experience.

if i have to gather crap-loot for a new BS, i just go with the sentry ishtar. cargo expanders, nanofibers, and lots of time saving with the highslots not being "reserved" for weapons |

I would say the lowest is an interceptor (i count AFs as higher up than ceptors for this challange as they do more DPS/have better tanks) i used to use a claw to rat in sansha space just dont try to do any cosmic anoms (tried an agel one with 6 decent BS and a few other things spawned missiles when target painted hurt).
You might even manage to get away with a speed tanked T1 frig but damage output might be an issue that and tanking cruisers/frigs in a spawn.

Neutron Blaster Harpy using AM will take out any Serpentis or Guristats BS (not sure about any other Factions).
Only problem is it takes a long time and a lot of ammo.

Dual Serp battleship spawn in a third-best-named fitted punisher, that took a while... ended that trip by accidentally warping to a deadspace gate and into a sensor boosted inty >< |

My Retribution easily handled triple 1.25 million Sansha BS in Providence. Takes a while and you don't have room for loot, but it works.

Smallest that can clear the ships in a reasonable time frame are probably AF, but I hate using them. 200 dps is... low.
T1 cruisers are good enough sometimes (mostly blaster boats against serps) but they have a hard time being tanked.
BC and HAC are the most versatile and pretty agile, plus they have the slots to fit cloaks if you want to. Faction cruisers fall into this category as well. IMHO this is the best ship class to use, especially if you're fighting guristas/serpentis because the gallente/caldari HACs have very good resistances and dish out the damage types you want to be doing.
BS have the DPS of course but I hate ratting in them, since a lot of time in belt ratting is spent just warping to and away from belts, and BS take forever to align. __________________________________

Drake - 7x HAM, MWD, rat specific hardeners, 5 x T2 drones, tractor and you will never have problems with 3x 1,85 spawns. Raven is fine too, because you can salvage on the way... but Drake is a bit more safer since it is not so slow (good when some visitors come to system). Ofcourse, if you have skills then HAC is the right option in the end.

I see lots of expensive suggestions.... In fact you can rat perfectly fine in a T1-fit Merlin.
Be prepared to take a LOT of ammo for the battleships, and avoid belts with too many frigs/destroyers.

Would a Zealot with a cloak work?
How much DPS are the biggest 0.0 rat spawns going to be giving out?
How much DPS is necessary to kill them in a decent amount of time?

Just use a raven. You shouldnt be losing them much at all. And on the rare occassion you do they are insured.
If you think corp is different than a guild or clan you have some insecurity issues.

400-500 (the DPS of a zealot with 4 turrets) will do it, yes. Try a harbinger or navy omen though if you want to fit a cloak, or just forgo the cloak and use a zealot.
Quote: How much DPS are the biggest 0.0 rat spawns going to be giving out?
I don't know offhand, but barring faction/officer spawns, 3x 1.8m BS will dish out... maybe 300 dps each to a stationary target?
Quote: How much DPS is necessary to kill them in a decent amount of time?
150-200 dps will kill them eventually. I use a Harbinger (about 750 dps) and it burns through the largest BS in under a minute. __________________________________

efficiency = vulnerability security = inefficiency
basically the better the ship is at killing the big rats the heavier its going to be. Meaning you're going to be slow to warp out.
The smaller ships can't kill as effectively and if so then they are bound to be t2 ships and cost close to what you would pay for an insurable Raven. You might not get caught as often but if you do you're going to be paying more isk.
Yes smaller ships can rat in 0.0, I've done so in an interceptor but it doesn't beat a torp or even cruise raven in efficiency. You can say that you rat in a small ship in 0.0 but you have to wonder how much you could be making doing L3s instead with far less risk. Some people probably rat in a small ship just to say that they rat in 0.0 as opposed to doing missions.

Yeah the inevitable death will be less stressful on your wallet for sure since frigate fittings are dirt cheap. Which brings up the #1 0.0 ratter the Pilgrim. Fitted out with heavy pulse and a fat shield tank it lols at both officer rats and bubble camps. |
