Given The fact that they cost only 1000 isk, and one corp can buy 20 stations worth without batting an eye, WHAT WILL BE DONE TO HELP THE INDIVIDUAL GAMER ACTUALLY PLAY THIS GAME. I WOULD LIKE TO DO SOME RESEARCH. PLEASE PLACE A LIMIT IMMEDIATELY.

I AGREE! If Eve simulates so well real-life-economy, how come that something for which there is so much demand costs so little ? There are so many ways this "lab monopolies" could be avoided. One suggestion: why not an auction for lab slots ? If corps want to own all slots, they should be prepaired to pay as much as everyone else.

I Totally Agree. With a price of 50000 or 100000 isk, The Lab Slot camping will be simply eliminated, making all people happy (except those %*$@ campers)
This is a TEN SECONDS CHANGE in the database during downtime !!! WTF is CCP waiting for

And if those labs are not used, and they don't have the people with the skills to use them, they lose them just like the rest of us.
Not saying labs aren't ridiculous to find, but blaming corporations for the problem is just uninformed.

100k ISK still isnt much. But the research slots issue only awakens te sell-and-buy market. Want one ? Buy one from somebody !

50k. One level 2 agent mission.
100k. Two level 2 agent missions, one with a nice sellable reward.
500k. Poor day three newbies. Oh well, run a couple of agent missions.
1 million. Now we're getting somewhere, but anyone serious about stockpiling labslots will post an angry rant on the forums, and then pay.
Five million. Sure, now this might actually work. Would be interesting to see how many new players leave the game because they can't possibly afford to research iron charge s for months after they start. --- Having recently acquired a lab slot (thank you, rental bug), I wholeheartily concur, there's absolutely no problem with lab slots! |

Instead of wasting yor time complaining on the forums spend the time looking. If you were to camp a system for a while (maybe a couple days) your bound to find one or more. People make mistakes and forget to pay the rent. I don't mean camp a busy system but a system a ways out of the way and you'll find them. I'm speaking from experiance. My corp now has a nice set of labs from doing that.

Even if the rent was increased to 100k or 500k it would'nt make me stop using my labs. If you get in the millions that might be another story, but really as long as the copies are selling to pay the rent and still have a profit.. I don't see why I would'nt keep them.

I think you mean chance, and no your wrong! I just depends on the time and day the labs were rented. If the lab is empty when rent is due, I think they just get unrented for inactivity. Might help next time if you find out more b4 you jump to your own conclusion.

Edited by: Steno on 29/07/2004 08:32:21 in 2 weeks i've gotten 3 lab slots in 1 station. how? I simply stopped at the station whenever I was in the same system. Took barely a minute to check. Wow that was such hard work that its beyond the scope of reasonable play (note sarcasm here). The time you took to post this could have been time you spent making another check on your station and maybe finding a slot.

Indeed! Some people just expect things to be handed to them I guess..

Actually, I check every station I can every time I log on and I've been looking for about a week. Given your numbers, I should have a lab slot by now, especially since I've been checking multiple stations.
But apparently I've been waiting to have a research lab handed to me.
Alternatively, we can believe that perhaps you were lucky in finding your slots and everyone else - the hundreds of posts on this site and other sites - is telling the truth when they say they've made thirty jumps without finding a research lab available.
Changing the price of rent is not the right solution. Changing the *supply* of labs is. See the other thread (There are NO shortage of labs...) for my complete description of how this would work.

There is a shortage of labs and the situation has been steadily getting worse for a couple months now at least. What's happening is that careless and casual people are gradually losing the slots and they're getting picked up by people sitting on them due to the shortage. Occasionally slots free up due to bugs and such, but that's hardly a nice way of grabbing a slot is it? And what happens if that bug if fixed?

It's not as easy as "camping a system". I do a lot of travelling in Empire space during my trade runs, and every time I dock at a station with labs, I check if any are available. I did come across a lab slot this way a couple of weeks ago, and I quickly sold it, but it's definitely a rare occurrence nowadays. It used to be much easier as recently as only 4-5 months ago.
There was actually a dev blog on the subject, suggesting a change would be about soon... (TM) |

Got to totally agree here. The lab slot situation is absurd. Glad I'm not a researcher.
I have made a habit of checking slots every time I entered a station with them. Thats hundreds and hundreds of checks over all the regions in empire (I am a trader), yet I have NEVER encountered a station with an empty research slot.
This is a huge weakness in the game.

Quote: Five million. Sure, now this might actually work. Would be interesting to see how many new players leave the game because they can't possibly afford to research iron charge s for months after they start
At this money the cost of research will actually become a factor, driving up prices of everything being built and copied. Would you spend 5mill for a handful of runs on a frigate BPO? This would hurt genuine lab users more than campers and is frankly ridiculous. Not to mention, the unfair advantage had by players who already have researched BPOs and don't need to recoup research costs from sales, vs new players who would pay more.
Quote: With a price of 50000 or 100000 isk, The Lab Slot camping will be simply eliminated
No this won't help either. Even at that price, as someone else pointed out, the cost is still not prohibitive. Cost isn't the way to tackle the issue, because it will affect BPC prices, and prevent cheaper BPOs coming on to the market, where the research cost isn't worth it. Better to build from an unresearched BPO and make a litle extra on sales. The solution that I've suggest in another thread, which would eliminate camping/buying & selling of slots, and won't hurt genuine users, is to increase the number of slots to the extent that every player in-game could rent 100 each and still have hundreds left. It won't make BPCs worth less than they are, and would put an end to these tedious threads about a problem that's been voiced 100 times over.
