As some of you may or may not know a 17 year old teenager killed his best friend with a claw hammer and the game manhunt has been blamed. please post your opinions on this. My own personel opinion is that linking games to real life violence is ridiculous and anyone that does copy violence from a game must be mentally ill in the first place. What is worse? fictional violence or real life violence i.e. iraq war? where women and children are being murdered for oil and is shown on the television at peak time.

There have been scientific studies which have shown that young children will duplicate scenes they have seen in videos/video games but, as you said, this guy is 17 yrs old.
I've always believed video games mirror life, not the other way around.
That kid was a "wrong 'un" and to blame Manhunt just detracts from the real problems in society.
Games are an easy option.

Its a load of crap.
If anyone is influenced by what they see in a game or a film to commit an act such as this, then they were prolly already deranged in the head and were going to do something anyway, sooner or later. Blaming a videogame is ridiculous.
I spent all my childhood playing violent games, watching violent films, and Ive trained kung fu for 22 years. According to the Daily Mail, with those criteria I should have gone on 34 killing sprees by now.
Murders and rapes etc, will happen in a large, apathetic, increasingly more intolerant and aggressive society. Murders like this are societies responsibility, not a game, a film or an album. You cannot be influenced to commit a violent act by playing a videogame if you are of sound mind, its not possible.
The kid was gonna pop sooner or later, whether he'd seen the game or not. Society failed, not the videogame producer. -------------------------------------------- Dead

If a 17 year old is disturbed enough to imitate a videogame and murder his best friend, the problem is with the deep mental problems the teenager already possesses, not the videogame. It's true, the game maybe gave him an idea, but it was his own demented mind that allowed him to do it.
This has gone on for years. Everytime someone does something horrible for no apparent reason, people scramble to explain it. Today it's Manhunt, yesterday it was GTA, before that Mortal Kombat, before that Doom, before that Dungeons and Dragons, before that Communism. So what if these things really did give them ideas? It's the person who fires the gun, not the gun, who is guilty of murder.

well i think blaming game is wrong as its a 18 rated game and he is only 17, so its more his parnets(sp?) to be blamed or the shop that sold him that game. ------------------------------------ Booga |

Crap like this shows just how backward joe public are. They are afraid of technology because they can't control it, so they just blame it for their own problems. "Hobbes, she stepped into the Perimter Of Wisdom.Run!" |

Yeah.. just like columbine was rammstiens fault.
Just like every violent act is blammed on something that can't defend itself.
People expect some justification for the ****** up **** that happens.
I've played violent videogames, read violent books/comics, watched violent tv shows etc etc since I was in diapers.
"I saw it on tv" or "I saw it in a movie" yeah.. I saw a terrorist blow up innocent people on tv.
So now it's ok if I go do it, because I can blame it on CNN! WOO! yay for entertainment!
You can make any arguement for or against violence in entertainment. But the bottom line is that it's society's fault as a whole.
I bet no one bothered to ask that kid how he was doing. I bet no one even gave a **** when he showed signs of violence before hand. THey just ignored it and went about their day. "Not my problem" they say to themselves. or "it's just a phase" "boys will be boys" etc etc.
Yeah, it's manhunts fault this innocent, loving, caring child grabbed a hammer and smashed his friends skull in. What else could it be!?
----------------sig---------------------------- Dtai'kai'-dte sa-de nau'gkon dtain'aun bpi-de.
if you don't wake up, i'll have to stop kissing you. all that flailing has made you sleepy. you rest while i untie you. stay here until they find you. My hand made mannequin. i won't let them get you. they'll know you're mine by the fingerprints on your throat. isn't she lovely? isn't she wonderful? like the *****s that we are, swatting flies from the wounds we design. |

Someone, of any decent age, who see's an act as violent as killing someone and copies is isn't right in the head to begin with...
Then comes the blame game, everyone needs someone to blame when the **** comes down...
Now the parents of the victim can't blame the parents of the 17 year old for letting him see it 'cos even though it's mostly THEIR fault (By raising him wrong AND letting him play the game that SUPPOSEDLY led him to the act) they don't have nearly as much money as Rockstar Studio's...
So human nature demands they ignore the truth of it that their neighbours raised a Psycho and their son is dead because of it...
Very harsh, but true --------------------------------------------------------------
