Yeah, I'm an alt.
Short story: Joined a corp started by a couple of 6-month-ish old characters. Nice guys, very supportive, seem to have a lot of cash (multiple billions). No biggie, alts abound.
They don't have a lot of the kind of knowledge you'd expect from an alt of a character that had been around long enough to acquire multiple billions. No biggie, maybe they pulled a decent scam and are on the lam.
Then one day when one of them show up in another brand new T2 fitted BS I ask the question, "Where do you guys get all the cash?".
The answer, "I bought another billion. Yeah, I know it's kind of cheating but..."
Ok, that's a biggie.
So, having already tossed it about in my own conscience and found myself unable to reconcile, the questions are:
1.) What's the mechanism for reporting these things? I looked through the petition system (not a complainer, never used it before) and haven't found anything that fits.
2.) Is there any EULA type obligation for me to report, or can I attempt to numb my conscience through liberal application of alcohol?
3.) Am I insufficiently ammoral to continue in this game?

You're debating busting your cheating corp mates, causing them real world (financial) pain. Trust me babe, you have what it takes for this game.

Buying / Selling ISK for RL cash is against EULA Reporting is up to you, if you do, just use any petition option that fits or is closest to what you need. Alcohol always helps

There is a cathegory under "Rules&Policies" called "EULA & Terms of Service" - this is where you'll want to place your petition. Sounds important enough for the devs to read it soonÖ and somehow fits pretty good too since buying ISK is an EULA violation (I thinkÖ).
Also, dev response-time has recently been pretty great. A day or two - couple houres or just minutes for replies to replies (I sent something back and they responded to it).

This is EVE ONLINE, meaning it illegal to purchase ISK, However not illegal to scam, extort and the other wonderful nasties. Make them buy you ships and mods to your hearts desires to keep your mouth shut. |

Who gives a ****, honestly. They bought the ISK. It'll either get taken away, or they'll just keep buying fancy ships that get repeatedly blown up. Let them be.
Either way, it's not really your concern to do anything. |

Erm...
You are kind of backstabbing. Which is 110% awesome for the game. You also kind of posted with a 2 year old supernub corp.
Clearly you have been playing long enough to know how ruthless eve online is.
Quote: 2.) Is there any EULA type obligation for me to report, or can I attempt to numb my conscience through liberal application of alcohol?
I hax, I cheat, I bought an erebus for 12$, and I had a gm spawn me officer fittings for that erebus.
People say stuff all the time... doesnt mean it's true.
Ive been in a corp where the guys play literally all day... and are making isk all day. They also had nothing to even buy... they t2 fit everything. So they were loaded... and they said they bought isk. I cant see how... or for what.
No point being a backstabber... when they likely were just testing your loyalty. ------------------------ To make a megathron from scratch, you must first invent the eve universe. ------------------------ Life sucks and then you get podded. |

Edited by: Karlemgne on 31/01/2009 10:35:56 Edited by: Karlemgne on 31/01/2009 10:35:12 This might just be me, but there are very few circumstances where I would petition a two month old for buying isk.
And just so we're clear, petitioning newb corpmates for buying a billion isk IS not one of those situations.
Tell them you aren't comfortable with their isk buying and/or leave the corp. That's what I'd do in this situation. The only way I would petition a new player like this is if I knew he had an older main and was buying multiple billions to afford that mothership (or some such).

A while ago i would of told you to petion then again and again, till they get banned its cheating plain and simple.
BUT
You can buy isk legit now its called GTC as far as i'm aware gtc are as cheap as buying from farmers.
so maybe ur guys have been buying gtc and thats what they mean, i know people that buy 10 at a time.
Really you are using your credit card to buy pretend money, but eve is huge part of people lives and if they want to spend money on thier hobby good for them its better than spending it on crack and hookers right ???? |

Have fun with that when you start to hit upper limits. Talk about an inefficient solution. --

I don't believe that is correct. Based on the hundreds of thousands of ISK Seller spams spewed into the corp and help channels without any pro-active action by CCP whatsoever each and every day, it seems that the ISK from the ISK-Sellers tens to sell for at least half the cost of GTC-based ISK.
I just picked one at random (an isk selling service that flat out stole CCP's EVE-Online website design and images and seems to do so without retribution) and it breaks down to this:
Approximate ISK per penny via selling GTCs: 185,714 ISK per penny via random isk-selling service: 338,628
As you can see, buying from isk-sellers provides you with almost twice the bang for the buck. Of course, that means you're violating the TOS, contributing to the ruin of the game you supposedly enjoy and risk being banned. I'd rather get less return and not feel like a douche bag in the process. |

If they'd remove, or increase the limit, on blocked people it's an ideal solution. |

Personally I would not report, but ask them to stop doing it .. and then cut ties with them should they persist. First loyalty is to the corp, always.
CCP are pretty good at catching them, the more time that passes the bigger the hit when they get caught. Imagine a -20B wallet in one go and the character is effectively dead.
Billions can be easily made if you know what to do, a small group working together by salvaging/looting/building/inventing can make insane amounts in a very short time.
I hit my first 3B in just over a year doing industry and running missions while waiting for jobs to complete, and that was alone ..

Made me chuckle. Pretty good amount of corps are just ripping off your isk, giving nothing in return. Specially ones in hi sec.
First loyalty is to yourself. This is EVE and stuff.
Just extort those isk buying muppets first, if they pay up or not, then petition them regardless what they did.

CCP is an utter FAILURE when dealing with farmers, buyers and sellers. The way a lot of farmers trade isk they admit they won't reverse. Report em. They probably won't lose anything anyway.

You are correct; however, not to sound like a jack ass, the word you're looking for is "tends" not "tens."
Normally I wouldn't correct people about such a trivial thing, but I just had this long conversation with my wife where it was revealed that her, and lots of other people, go for years using the wrong words in situations like these--because words sound similar--and people (my wife at least) would be happier if they found out about their mistakes sooner rather than later.
