don't even try to fight a Taranis in a Claw. There is 0 chance that you'll kill him. IF you have a warp jammer fit, he'll just close, web you then smoke you, and if you have a web fit and manage to keep him at bay, he can just warp away if he's doing less damage then you.
The Claw is great for fighting battleships, slow cruisers, and lesser frigates, but can't stand up to a Crow/Taranis.

yeah.. im just so sick of runnin away from the taranis. i dont wanna get one cuz...well..theyre kinda two-dimensional: mount ions, approach, web, melt.. if u no what i mean.
id scream NERF NOW.. but everyone seems to like it like this so it'd b of no use.
i will stick with the claw tho, and my anti-frig rupture setup...which totally smokes any taranis...makes me feel a little better.

Very true, the interceptors that have only 2 medslots are pretty poor 1on1 against other interceptors with 3 medslots. The simple fact that you can't both web and scramble them makes it impossible (well, I guess they could CTD) to beat them if they have any idea what they are doing.

This is partly true. There are some very good non-MWD Claw setups.

could you give me some tips on how to do that? i lost 2 claws to taranis inties so far and every time i was only about 1/2 to 2/3 through their armour.
i mean, im hearing all these things, yet i remain clueless. how do u go 5-6km/s in a claw with ONE mwd, without overdrives, tanked to 1300 armour? how do u take out a taranis - an inty that can melt a [non-tanked] rupture in about 30 seconds - with a claw? FILL ME IN PLEASE and end my pain

tech 2 mwd gets about 3750?
Considering you are going 5km a sec... thats what 3 ods? Have any low slots for armor? Or are you using a mwd+ab w/o a webby or a scram...

I have only lost one Taranis vs Taranis fight in my inty career. The other mofo was using 150mm rails and i didn't reactivate my mwd in time thinking he would be coming close anyway.
Every Taranis that had neutrons fitted lost.
Even the DoT math shows you ions are better.

Edited by: Estios on 03/08/2004 11:13:33 My claw has over a 1000 ARMOUR (and no he was not adding structure) however it only goes 4km/s. I have Nav 5 and all other Nav related skills to 4. I think Id struggle to go any faster without gimping my set up.
And yes I assure you I still have firepower in all 4 highslots. Why would you think he would use Ions on a claw ?? I dont know what Shens is Ronyo but dont dismiss people before researching stuff.
I do have admit though that only having 2 midslots makes solo dogfighting pretty frustrating unless you drop the mwd
So HMV consider Andy Williams and Dean Martin to be "easy listening" do they? Tell that to my mate Dave, he's been deaf for 20 years.

Bad thing is that you start to meet all the BS pilots with their cruise and torpedos when u go out like this.
I've never run into a ceptor (or flown one) without an MWD/AB so I can't really say how my crow would fare against one - fine, I hope. However, as you say, a setup like this is pretty poor against cruises and torps so I would never go out in one. After all, its duty is to intercept and it can't very well do it if it doesn't have the speed.

my crow doesnt have any trouble killing any interceptor, in fact the taranis is the ship i've killed most, they are close range i am long, so i never get within 8k of them __________________________________________________

Perhaps you mean 3700m/s then? unless of course the MWD is not the only speed enhancing module you have on.
Max skilled Taranis speed with only speed boosting module MWD II is about 3900m/s.

if u stay at 8km+, how do u keep him/her still? i dont know who you've been fighting, but every inty pilot can outrun missiles unless webbed.
to kill a taranis, you have to get within webber range.. the trouble is, once u do that, he/she can also web u.. and thats when u die. from my experience at least ...unless im missing something again

does anyone have any setups to recommend? i usually go out with 2xions, 2xstandard launcher or 2xrocket launcher, or 1xion and 1x named autocannon with emp. mwd, webbie and whatever i can fit in lows.
technically, shouldnt this setup be doing more damage than 3xion on a taranis? i know i dont get the bonus for using hybrids...but is it really that significant? maybe my skills just suck atm...

Very significant, thats +25% damage for the ship alone, then +25% more if you have small hybrid lvl5, on top of that a +25% firing rate bonus. Sum that up and it packs a punch.

Edited by: niun mikeya on 16/08/2004 10:54:46 LMFAO this is great, you guys are complaining that the taranis is an uber ship....yet, quite honestly-it blows sack, becuase what you are forgetting is that it is a frigate. What is the point of training a month to get a ship that can be bested by anybody who knows what they are doing in a ship that costs 1/100th the price...and make money when they go boom? but hey maybe there are folks that like losing 7-8 mil whenever they die. Maybe if everyone could just think a little bit before going and getting the latest and "greatest", when a ship thats been around forever and has proven its worth? such as a kestrel or punisher or rifter or any number of IMO better ships?
interceptors are only good for breaking blockades and finding safe spots. there is nothing about them (except for maybe the crow) that a frigate could not beat.
remember use your brain, its the only part of you that counts in this game.

hmmm the interceptor i kill mostly is actually the crow.... And I can fly em all(not amarr). I prefer the taranis. I web the crow and go towards him and smartbomb his missils... I never had any probs... of course if he stay out of webbing range. but then i run from missils.

Webber range is 10km. Most effective Crow pilots web their target as soon as they get in web range, then just hang back and spam missiles. Granted, Crows are slow, but a webbed Taranis isn't that much faster than a webbed Crow, and at webbed speeds 5km (assuming you're webbed at 8km range, and you've got blasters which won't do much above 3km) is a very long way to go...

my crow has smoked every 1v1 interceptor it has ever encountered, ok well one crow killed me 2 seconds after i killed it, but i was setup for fleet support
and half the time im able to smoke multiple frigs & interceptors
the taranis is onyle ffective at about 1-4k, i see no reason to let them get that close __________________________________________________

loan me a crow and i'll have no problem demonstrating my tactic
im not going to be buying any caldari elite frigates until the price of grav reactors are affordable
the crow is a flyby ship, flyby propulsion jamming and keeping out or range of close range fighters, or just getting too close to longer range oponents
the whole tactic of mode taranis piliots is to park on someones bow and open fire with blasters, deny them that close proximity and they barley scratch you, and if theyre using long range rails, then orbit at less than 5k and they wont hit you, every attack has a counter __________________________________________________

technically, shouldnt this setup be doing more damage than 3xion on a taranis? i know i dont get the bonus for using hybrids...but is it really that significant? maybe my skills just suck atm...
vs taranis the only thing that really matters is speed.... if he goes faster then you he wins if you go faster then him you win. In a 3 mid interceptor you can web back.... so if you move faster then the nis under web you win. The 2 mid interceptors on the other hand give good damage >10km so you can run a 20k scram. This WTFPWNS your cap but you've got 4 lows to boost it with, sure this means this loadout isnt quite as powerfull vs other ships but thats the price you pay.
Id run something like
Highs 3x 250/280 1x rocket launcher
mids
1mn t2 mwd 1 20k scram
lows
1x overdrive 2-3x cpr 1x micro aux
Start off with a full set of cap relays then cut it back till you findout how many you need, orbit @ 15 and the whole lot go.
Mostly harmless |
