So here is the story:
So here is how it began.
Step One - Scam Failure
So I was cruising recruitment channel this weekend with my neutral alt looking for tasty morsels. I see a guy looking for a high/low sec mining corp. I convo him and ask if 0.0 mining would be attractive. (if only I had these chat logs but v0v).
The mark is very interested.
The mark has 4 million skillpoints and flies a retriever. Good, good. Can I get that API key because, you know, spiez. Sure. Sadness. The API key shows that the kid has no real ISK. He has been very straightforward so far and pretty cool in chat. I am now agonizing over which way to go with this. I ask for the 100 million.
He considers. It is taking awhile, but he is being pretty chill about it. Not indignant about the security deposit but instead tries work it out with me. I decide to switch to recruit mode.
Before I can make that switch in chat, the guy puts in an application and sends me 50 mil, explaining that he is willing to come up with the rest by mining.
I am impressed with his initiative. This guy could be pretty cool in corp. The scam is going nowhere. I refund the 50 million (no scamming blues) and accept his application. I congratulate him on his demeanor, admit that I was scamming him but had a change of heart. He thanks me and asks why I let him in. I call it karma.
Step Two - Clumsy Recruitment
RL keeps me from EVE for a day. While I am away, my new recruit comes down to our space, receives a new mining barge from the corp and a quick tour of where we mine. He is eager but not starry-eyed, and people seem to like him.
On Tuesday, I log in and get two convos within 30 seconds. First, an IGNE director asks me about the new guy. Turns out he had some red in his history, not straight hostile but he was in a corp that red but left before the corp went red. Something like that. The director has removed his roles (basic hangar, nothing special) and wants my input on kicking him before GIA get all over our backs for stupidly recruiting reds. lol IGNE, etc.
Step Three - Win EVE
At this point, the situation is embarrassing but NBD. That would be the end of it except for that other convo. It's from the newbie recruit.

Seriously, I am sweating bullets now. One convo is grilling me about some minor red history about a guy who just outed himself as a BoB director.
I recruited a f***ing BoB director.
What the hell will I do when Goons kick me? I start looking at other MMOs . . .

OK, how the hell is this not a #$^#%@ set up. He says he is ready to spy, but WTF do I know about spying? Even if he gave me piles of intel, I am too stupid to know what to do with it. Oh crap, oh crap, oh crap.
Anyway, I don't want to be the guy that recruited a BoB director, and I am waaay skeptical about this "prize." Seriously, good things do not happen to me. OTOH, I don't want to be the moron that passed on a potential brass ring of intel. So I take a stab at damage control.

This guy was going to get scammed 50 mil by a goon recruiter. Everybody who has been even marginally active in eve / forums know that goons routinely run recruitment scams. Was this director inactive or like, living under a rock? How did he nearly fall for the goon scamming him on recruitment?

Well this is possibly the biggest if not the biggest thing to happen in EVE. Do you understand what has happened to the best empire of 0.0? Delve was a huge fortress and it is on its knees now. People are simply communicating with excitement neutral or not in a forum used for communication.  |

Same for me. I joined EVE last year after, like a lot of the current players I'm sure, reading about the great GHSC heist, and grand schemes and scams happening left and right. And now I can I'm deeply happy of having had the chance to be an active player while this happened, while understanding the consequences of the event. It feels great to experience an important part of history, even if it's only internet spaceships.

I find it quite funny that the Goons are so serious about the game. Given that in this interview they even went so far as to run down the interviewers telephone and IP to determine if he was a spy, I would say that the old adage of pretending that a game is just a game, and not so serious would have to be a lie eh? If this is really even vaguely true, then it makes me like the tale a lot better. Gobbins has it right on, Shakespearean drama.
Sad thing is, it's Macbeth, not a Midsummer Night's Dream. Everything doesn't work out in the end, and the heartbreak will be all the more poignant when H.A. realizes that he traded in one bunch of arrogant bastards for an even worse bunch of the same.

The Official statment on everything will be done at the proper time by the proper person.
Because I seem to be a source of entertainment and keep coming up, I wanted to add just a little something.
When I was part of FLA and BLAST leadership, there were a couple of things that we did that would have caused such drama and controversy within the alliance and with allies (although game legal), that only myself and one or 2 other people knew. It was for the greater good and of no harm to those who trusted us and are still friends today. And, I personally put on a couple of very convincing "acts" so there would never be any doubt or suspicions. We had convo "proofs" too.
So, I am basically saying, that this is POSSIBLY a result of some type of hacking likely external to EVE, who knows. IF one were to do something of the nature suspected, they would be an utter fool to let more than one RL friend know. Hopefully time will tell. And, one thing I and everyone close to me would never condone is hacking. The caliber and quality of those who are in EVE, especially the leaders, will be determined the day that comes to light, if it does.
As for the distasteful youtube (banned topic dictator) video being passed around, you don't "get" Molle or me whatsoever. Any more on that topic should be directed to Out of Pod forums or privately.

So the BOB spy turn on it's master. Who would have thought that a BOB spy bring down the mighty empire. From my POV there are one important lesson to learn here. Attitude reflect leadership and outweigh performance.
Now any top alliances/corps that underestimate the destructive influence of power/fame, fall like this;
from abundance to arrogance
from arrogance to complacency
from complacency to apathy
To evolve and stay on top, attitude need to outweigh performance. When performance outweigh attitude it become a slippery slope towards elitism/omnipotence and arrogance which are downward spiral. Why do power and fame corrupt? Because it flatter the ego. It really surprise me that only few leaders learn from history. The biggest downfall in top alliances/corps are always to much ego. Power corrupt just as easily in EVE as in real life. Arrogant leaders are immune to change because they cant see pass their own narrow mindedness. Leadership require a great deal of personal honestly because the biggest lies leaders tell are not to other's but to themself (self-delusional).
