It is that your business plan, from everything we can see, intends to take away the gameplay central to Eve; the player-driven economy. You're planning on making players that have spent time training for manufacturing, researching blueprints to wring out research efficiencies compete with a deus ex credit card.
Someone else pointed out that many player corporations have standings aid as a service for new recruits. You have players themselves advancing the social mechanics of your game, as part of the gameplay. Do you really think it's a good idea to disrupt that?
When we join, we join for the shiny. I joined because I might someday get to fly a Nyx. I'll admit that. But I've stayed, (and paid for new accounts like this one), because it is the players that drive the lore. The epic battles people talk about in chat while mining are the battles that they or their friends participated in, or caused. All of the politics is real. The bad guys are that other group of players that threw a wardec your way.
What we're worried about is that you'll start by taking the little things away, like offering standings aid as a player corp service, and move on to bigger things. There will be people that are willing to pay real money for the I-win-mobile. If you think that you can boil a few hundred thousand frogs to reach out to the few thousand teenagers with dad's credit card you'll lose us too. Then you will have lost what makes the game worth playing.
You'll lose the experienced FCs that know how to run a fleet and can train noobs to be just as valuable as the pilot in the that T2 cruiser. You'll lose the alliances that police their own territory making the alliance mechanics work. You'll lose the smart players who have poured so much time, thought, and effort into the game. The only kinds of players you gain are the ones with short attention spans. The ones that have no patience. The ones that play a "title" and move on.
And what happens when that's your player base? You have to be forever adding "content" like WoW does. Here's the new dance of the month. I've come to hate the term "content" because it's come to be akin to "just give them more icons". I'm not looking for just "content", I'm looking for play.
Most of your players today are not kids. I'm in my late thirties. I work in the software field. Like most of your players, I'm not stupid. I am not just a revenue stream. I say these things not in an attempt to gain your respect. I say these things in the hopes that they make you think about the kinds of players you want inhabiting your universe.
I won't cancel my account yet. You haven't upended the sandbox yet. Like your CEO suggested, I'll watch what you do more than what you say. I played Star Wars Galaxies, I had a character that made weapons. I had a plan in the game to become the premier gunsmith in my little neighborhood. That was what I was going to play toward. Sony changed the game, I dropped my subscription because it wasn't fun anymore. Please don't do that to us.

It is increasingly looking like they fumbled badly, hopefully we can bury Incarna 6 feet under with this mess.
I actually want Incarna, but it must be an option to make me happy (otherwise I don't think I can tolerate it for long). I want my ship spinning and I will use Incarna when I feel like I want to. I manage perfectly fine without being dumped into the MT shop every time I want to make a quick stop at a station.
Right now ship spinning is trivial, though.

Things changing, that's given by nature. But things we invent don't need to change into bad.
CCP makes failures as we all do, but even if we do make them, we all have to think about what we've done and how it effects all of us. However, I hope you'll get it sorted. |

Yeah, shortly after starting this thread she actually had a legit family emergency. I'm told her daughter is fine, so that's good.
I feel bad for CCP Pann. She's having a rough week at this rate.
Do you know for SURE that she really had a family emergency and that her daughter is/was in a hospital??? Just cos another CCP employee told us a story, we'r supposed to believe it? The time for that has passed long ago. Have you read it in the newspaper? Was it on the news? Do you (or anybody else) hold some kind of evidence this is a true story? Considering the fact that CCP is lying to us for like... forever allow me to be a little skeptic about this convenient emergency. Most likely she needed time to prep for GDC Europe speech. So, fck her and fck you too until some solid EVIDENCE proves "the story" to be true.

What I've said to many several times already. Later it will be to late to change anything. And it's been made clear, your words mean less than actions. So unless you cancel now, the words mean nothing (zero) to CCP. Your words were all predictable. You're just resisting change. They will stay the course. Unless you cancels subs.
There really is no middle ground here. Either deal with the changes, pay the fees and STFU. Or cancel subs.

Honestly I do think that there is a bit too much anger being generated over what is ultimately an internal memo in an essentially private corporation. While this is a company that we are customers of, and in a sense stakeholders of, it is not a government - they are not obligated to have every internal memo or discussion made public. Nor should these internal discussions be made public - and the response of the eve playing public over this one memo (calling for good developers to be fired and worse) has proven that. A company MUST be free to internally debate their course, for without such debate work, creative work in particular, will NEVER happen. They must be free to debate things which may at first seem unpopular without fear of backlash.
We are certainly due our opinion on development issues, as we are customers, and CCP should care about said opinion as it is good business practice. The thing is, CCP has proven itself far more receptive of player desires and feelings than nearly any other MMO producer out there, while still managing to create a quality product. We must keep in mind that they have done this through the very sort of internal debate that we are 'up in arms' over. The forumula has worked thus far - perhaps we need have some faith in it. More openness may be a good thing in some way - CCP has admitted as much, but taking it too far can paralyze a company.
In addition, we must not fail to admit that lines of metagaming have been crossed in an unacceptable way here. This is no internal Goonswarm or PL mail. These aren't IP addresses from some random alliance forum. These are internal memos of a real world corporation. This leak borders on corporate espionage of the real world sort and we should not support it. How would people feel if a CCP employee leaked records of PLEX transactions to EN24? I am sure EN24 would publish it - have no illusion there. What if your credit card information, your address, or any other information you deem private were leaked? We should not justify or support these internal leaks which may be a breech of contract and perhaps even border on illegal - by responding to them with too much outrage. Honestly, if we should be outraged about anything it should be the leak itself. If we should be calling for anyone to be fired, it should be whomever leaked this memo in the first place. We should not support or dignify this sort of breach of corporate security, in a company which we claim to hold so dear. It can only jeopardize the future of that company, and thus the game we love.
Lastly, I find it odd that folks find the Aurum and microtransactions to be so appalling - as if the idea of spending real world cash on in game objects is somehow new. You can already buy faction items for real money. You can already buy standing (by purchasing tags and cosmos items). You can even buy Titans. Buy plex, get isk, and then use the isk for whatever you want in the game. This is not that far removed from microtransactions. Plex have opened the economy up to real money purchases - not Aurum. Sure, the tying of Aurum to plex requires that a plex be bought by SOMEONE, rather than currency simply generated in game, but I would argue that the plex economy is driven far more by our ravenous need for isk to buy Titans, Super Carriers, and other fun toys with than by the need for a handful of people to own a monocle.
Just my thoughts.
Argus Sorn
This.
As well, I don't appreciate being called an idiot for continuing to play the game. No, I'm not. I'm going to avoid non-vanity AUR items if I can (we don't even know if it's actually happening), and I am going to continue to play the game until it bores me.

i have (as have many of you ) sat for countless hours, accumulating wealth , training, learning eve and all its nuances.
i wasnt happy when selling plex was allowed as i thought it gave people who had money (RL) more of an advantage over those that do not.
But the way this threadnaught is going and after trying to discern the facts for myself, i think i too will not be re-subbing again.

Originally by: Norian Lonark I would say most people who care about the game are opposed to going down the MT for non-vanity items route. The majority of posts where people have come on to complain about the protesters don't even know what the complaints are about.
When the community that has spent years playing the game, not only playing but contributing by writing guides, making movies, writing applications etc. (making this empty sandbox a virtual universe) is replaced by people who just want to pay for convenience and who will leave when the next new game opens the soul and core of EVE has gone and it will be an empty shell the same as all the other failures.
4 years and never a thought passed that I was going to unsub. I was even going to reactivate my alt this week but with this I am now just thinking why bother. EVE was a wonderful vision and a wonderful framework which allowed an amazing community of passionate players to create a unique gaming experience, why on earth they are looking to destroy this and turn it into a soulless clone of everything else is beyond me.
I completly agree on this. As a MMO oltimer (i started in 1999, with UO), I know that ultimately, what makes the value of a MMO isnt the game itself, but the community (of course, having a game with deep gameplay helps a lot). A good community is the hardest thing to achieve, and it can totally change your in-game experience.
The anti-protesters and CCP dont get what's at stake here : it's the grip the community has on this game, the bounds that links this community to Eve's universe. For this community, Eve IS NOT like any other MMO. The gamers are a huge part of this game's success. And making of EvE a wallmart-online, is in total contradiction of the comminity's view about this game. CCP is stealing the game from us by doing this.
If you don't get all this, you dont get anything about this protest.
