I've had this happen several times, the odd thing is the items always eventually turn back up, normally after downtime though no always. I recently had a contract one of my corp mates sent to me vanish, I accepted it but the items never appeared...

I guess it all depends on your distribution, if I was trying to do that id go through the items work out what's worth more than mineral price etc and sell them to ether buy orders or fast moving sell orders. Then everything worth less than mineral...
