It doesn't take much SP to easily perma-tank DD's \=
Most fleets tank them fine.
Most Titan operations end up failing on their faces.
It's a fairly well known thing that Titans do more exploding than killing.
If you're getting killed by titans, move back into empire and have less QQ |

Why would you perma tank a roaming gang? That is ridiculous.....roam around looking for enemies and "poof" the I-Win button. What if you aren't "hunting the almighty titan"? Ever think of that? I do believe that CCP is paying attention to the changes in the game, because of the titan. The changes aren't good for the game and will cost more than isk in the long run, if things aren't corrected. Many will ultimately find another gaming option.

I think the big thing here missed is the roll of the titan it seems by the signers. Titan's are not a big heavy offense battleship. It is true, they are like a big smartbomb, and a doomsday can do lots of damage, but that is with a big massive support fleet at the ready. In a war, and need to turn the tide, jump it in, set of dd and get remaining fleet in. Damage could be enough to make a difference. Then you still have it's ganglinks, they help a bit if your fc can keep a fleet tree. Finally, you have stuff like clone vats, etc, so pilots who die can come right back out in new ships, etc. It is a massive mobile base, not a big warship. Take erebus:
Gallente Titan Skill Bonuses: 10% bonus to Capital Hybrid Turret damage per level 7.5% bonus to gang membersÆ maximum armor HP per level 99% reduction in CPU need for Warfare Link modules Can fit Aurora Ominae Super Weapon Can fit Jump Portal Generator Can fit Clone Vat Bay Can fit 1 additional Warfare Link module per level Immune to all forms of Electronic Warfare
What do I see, nice tank bonuses. You are talking 7.5% armor hp per lvl for gang? That is huge. Jump portal generator? Huge, get those reinforcements in! Clone vat, those that die can come back. 5 million m3 ship maint capacity, that makes for quite a few replacement ships. If moms and such become more useful, that is an even greater showing. Biggest problem with the titan is not the titan itself, but the lack of mooring for it. The pilots are stuck with them. And stated, they are vulnerable in small fleets. Pilots of them are stuck to massive fleets to guard them. If your small gang runs into one, the titan itself is the least of your worry. and no titan pilot is going to sit unable to move just to take out a few nubbers. Would be like going into seige mode with a dn group to take out one megathron.

Kudos.
Imo, Titans have it kinda crappy. Yes they can drop a DD, but thats practically all they can do. You cant jump without help, you dont really ever have enough slots to fit guns, much less enough guns to somewhat defend yourself against what is likely to come after you, you cant fly anything else if you ever plan on staying with that alliance. and the list goes on... to be honest i dont see why the titan doesnt have 15 slots across the board, the thing is the size of montana... i do think they should cost much more to build than they do and i think that a mechanic that requires cap parts in order to repair them should be in place. I also think that a titan should be able to be anchored and managed like a POS when the pilot ejects. use the hangar like a POS hangar, place guns on it like a POS, consume fuel and configure access like a POS...
I think that alot of people encountering titans and whining have no business in any area where titans exist, move to lowsec, theres plenty of good roaming to do there.

Edited by: Xorth Adimus on 23/07/2009 09:33:58 Case in point:
Headed thru sovereign 3+ cyno jammed space in a medium sized fast T2/bc fleet, killed a few guys.
Then in 3 systems we get titans and caps dropped on each gate one after the other (badly missing the lot of us each time). The 3rd cloaked titan + HIC got a handfull of kills.
They ended up baiting us with a carrier, and failed again, a handfull of losses were caused by their other caps jumping in bumping us.
They knew we couldn't bring our own caps because of the cyno generator and that there was no way for us to kill their caps before they blobbed us (even though their bait carrier was in 1/4 armor before we GTFO).
The point is these same guys where screaming in local at their own titans to stop DDing because they had jump bridged in a moderatly sized (if BS heavy) fleet which they wanted to engage with (and we would have happily engaged) but their own titans (2-3 pilots) where ruining what could have been a good fight for 70+ pilots on both sides! A fight in which they could have actually gotten far more kills and had some fun in!
So yea titans not ruining eve for EVERYONE In the end we just left and went to fight someone who didn't use titans every time.
Reiterating titans should be a powerful flagship: 1. Titans should have bonus's to actually fight and be given dread type bonus's and abilities to do so. 2. They should have to stay on the field after DDing (no warping), they should also have to target to fire a limited area targeted dd (hence mostly of use for damaging cap and bs blobs). This also allows them to have their own support on the feild during a DD. 3. They definatly shouldn't be able to DD solo at extreame range, cloak at any time or warp out to a POS immediatly afterwards like f**s!

Just incase this has not been offered up yet I thought I would ask why Titans, the biggest of all capital ships, donÆt have to siege when performing an offensive attack (DD) like Dreads do? Why not require them to go into siege mode, even if itÆs for a minute, so there is some sort of risk to them instead of the ôHalf-court shot for the win!!ö every time there is a Fleet fight. |

My suggestion would be to change titans to become a directional weapon that fire either a cylinder or a cone area of effect from the titan and which deal vastly increased damage within that range. This idea is interesting because if affects multiple titan DD'ing: if you fly your fleet between two hostile titans, they won't be likely to fire the DD at you because the other titan would be caught in the crossfire, which should discourage the abuse of multiple DD's. In exchange, DD's get the power to destroy things in their line of fire (but frigates might still be hard to target if they're orbiting you), and your support fleet probably doesn't get damaged by the titan (presumably you tell your pilots to fly out of the line of fire). Combined with the ability to deal meaningful amounts of damage to affected capitals (or otherwise disable them somewhat), the titan would become a powerful anti-capital titan, would become less effective against well coordinated small fleets, would introduce some degree of flanking, and the prospect of multiple DD's would be greatly reduced. I think this would be a net improvement.

This could be set up to discourage multiple titan DD'ing in certain situations; For example, if you fly your fleet between two hostile titans, they won't be likely to fire the DD at you because the other titan would be caught in the crossfire(which should cause it significant harm). That should discourage the abuse of multiple DD's.

It's called a dreadnought. Does exactly what you say. And a Titan instapopping 200 BS or 20 caps... That is worse than the current design. And that 2 Titans crossfire... So that DD deals about one million damage?
My opinion to Titans is: Nice thing, **** in pants moment when DDing, but nothing for this kind of game. I've been on that roam that Xorth stated few posts earlier. And imo there's no point to talk of whining when roaming gangs get killed by a single ship. Might be funny sometimes, but getting DDed twice in a few minutes just because they can. Don't like that.

Edited by: newdok on 09/08/2009 05:23:27 I've spent the last few minutes clarifying my post
I recognize that the dreadnaught is supposed to be a ship somewhat similar to what i'm describing, but thats not a bad thing, from what i can tell it seems like the progression is:
Dread->Titan Carrier->Mothership
in which case, a scaled up version of a dreadnaught, with new mechanics does make sense. As for crossfire, i don't think that is an issue if you in the process damage both your titans such that they need significant time to be repaired so they can be moved (I suppose i need to clarify that as well, but the intention is that the titans become sitting ducks for a while in that case)
Of course, one problem my idea does not address is when you use X+1 titans to destroy X titans... that would certainly need to be addressed lest the power balance be utterly shattered in a few decisive battles

Its kinda obvious who the titan pilots or titan pilots in training are in here
Points i can agree and disagree with:
Skill/Time/Isk investment: HIGH therefor should be as powerfull as they are - fine
So all that isk/time/skill invested ultimatly gets you an rather large cloaking (in many cases) 1 button, no target maximum, BFG9000 (DOOM referance for those that dont know )
From a personal standpoint ive been DD'd give or take 8 times over my career and everyone of them left me thinking what a waste of time.
I invest my skills on a differant path, spend no wheres near what a titan costs, and still dont think that just because its bigger/more expensive and a differant skill path that i should be REQUIRED to fit for a DD when i go out on any roam in 0.0
And yes ive been DD'd on roams.
I can argue till im blue in the face and it will inevitably get burried by other posts but the 1 thing that i know for a fact.
getting DD'd is not fun (at all) its cheap ala aimbot/wallhack/godmode.
changing the whole dynamic of the Titan is the only answer in my books. ________

1: Disable the titan from using certain modules: Nanofibre, Overdrives, Intertial stabalisers, AB, MWD, basically anything that wouldn't make sense on a ship of this size. This would INCLUDE cloaking devices since you shouldn't be able to cloak something nearly the size of a moon! If it creates it's own gravity well powerful enough to damage planets than it is EASILY detectable! Cloaked or not.
2: Siege mode is required to DD. Duration is 5 mins and DD can be fired whenever you want in this time, so you can wait till 4mins 59 secs, DD and then warp out or you can use it right at the start of the cycle.
3: DD timer on any grid, after 1 DD is fired the 2nd DD in that grid is at 50% effectiveness, the 3rd 20%, 4th 10%, 5th 5%. This stops them stacking infinately, the timer would reset after 1 hour from the last DD.
4: All titans appear with a special icon in local chat that any player can right click on and warp to. These ships are big enough that its very feasible to be able to detect them without needing to probe them out.
5: Titans can be passworded by the pilot to make them harder to steal when left inside a POS shield by spies. Titans could be blown up but not stolen easily. The hacker module would allow this password to be broken but would take a lot of time (20 mins) and you'd need to also be inside any shield to do this.
---------------------
That would be the easy fix, I'd rather see titans changed into a combined arms ship that combines the functions of a mothership and dread with it's own unique functions for supporting ships. IE:
Remove DD Add deflector field array - Any fleeted ship within 20km of a titan has all damage done to it reduce by 25% before it hits the targeted ship. Add C&C unit - Basically allows fleets to bypass ECM by using other ship's sensors and having the information routed to them via the titan. This would give the jammed ship a ROF and accuracy penalty, but still better than not been able to shoot at all. Increase number of XL weapons the titan can (easily) carry. Having 2-3 times the firepower of a dread seems about right. Also has siege mode for the same bonuses. Then add a series of titan only support modules like: Repulsor array - 1 min CD, sends one targeted ship flying away from the titan, range 50KM, speed propelled at would depend on ship size. Space normalisation field - Disables all warp interdiction bubbles within 100KM. Single target scramming is not affected. 5 min CD. e.t.c.
This would provide a titan with a multiude of roles without it been a one trick pony. It would need a fleet to operate and would die horribly without one! :) -The sword is only as sharp as the one who wields it. Drenzul (My normal internet tag) |

i agree titans are ruining the game, they used to be rare valuable, alliance level toy, that cannot be risked, but currently those rich moon mining pos generate more isk than ever, and with cyno jamer, titan pilots are now willing to dd a 30 man frigs gang ( true story as it happened to us)
however, even nerf DD or titan will not save the game, there is bigger problem, cyno jammer.
i think cyno jammer is the cause of peace in nulsec, big alliances know the fact that they cannot destroy each other, and if there is no war, then no expense then no economy which CCP charish the most.
to tackle this problem i have a thought, that is to make cyno jammer like dread going to seige mode which require a lot of fuels, thus force defender only turn on jammer for a short period, out of this period, if titan dare to dd, it may be hotdroped by dread fleet

I think the main problem here is that titans arn't rare enough. I think they should be valnurable to everything but BS and BCs. After the turrets should move slower right? Anyway, my point is they should make the titan more of a prized possesion. Increase the minerals it takes to make. increase the price of the minerals. I don't know what it takes to make a titan but somehow the should be destroyable by like a cruiser.
A titan without a fleet should be easily destroyed by a cruiser. (If it sat in one spot and didn't move.) But you get my point. I don't think I helped much did I? Oh well.

Edited by: Markus Reese on 18/08/2009 01:50:34 I am not familiar with DD weapons, nor had the time to read all the posts (sorry) but is there a detonation delay on the doomsday? One way to fix it would be to have a sort of audible warning and a short time before the dd goes off so those that can warp off, can be able to. With the tremendous energy, there is bound to be some warning. This way, if somebody hot drops a gang, that gang might be able to get out unless a bunch of bubbles are deployed.
Edit: seeing last part, I did post a month ago XD. And concur with above statement. Cyno jammer fuel requirement.

Why not simply limit the amount of titans that a corporation can own. As far as i know titans can be destroyed and with the large amount of time and money required to build a new one i think corporation and alliances would be more hesitant to use the titan foolishly. It seems that a middle ground must be found because it is unlikely that titans will be removed or nerfed to much. i think simply limiting the numbers allowed per alliance/corp would help alleviate some of the issues that smaller roams/corp/alliances are facing.

I still thing a charge buildup is the key to them. I mean, heck, if you see 40 ravens firing cruise missiles launched from 100km away at you, even a armour rigged/plated abaddon can warp away in time. This will make titans a fleet op thing, and most things that are small enough to die, should be fast enough to escape bubble range before they start detonating.

Alot of friends ask me why I don't go into 0.0 space and hunt in gangs with them.
Everyone here has answered this question. I wanted to PvP and go about in a sexy Battlecruiser taking on Battleships in a space that I could actually help push control of.
But then there are Dreads, Motherships, and the main issue: Titans.
I refuse to play PvP where an epic 30 vs 30 battle ends in titan fire.

Problem is that Eve generates infinite amounts of ISK. Players stay in-game for years. Given these two facts it's just a matter of time before dedicated players get their very on Avatar to float around in.
It should cost something to maintain a Titan. Not just to build it. Make it so that, even the largest alliances, can only support a handful of them without going broke.
That's the only way to limit the number of them and keep them balanced.

A Titan is not over powered but the ability to bring in multiple titans is becoming, and with the number of titans increasing combined with the fact that you need sov to build a titan means that soon anyone with out multiple titans will not be able to hold sov and hence will not be able to build titans. This is a definant issue that is arising, possibly changes to sovereignty will reduce or solve the problem.
Don't tell me the fact that an alliance who has formed up in high and low sec, has a fleet of a hundred dreads and thinks it would be a good idea to take some 0.0 for their own. They drop into a system start laying siege to the POS's in system and abruptly a cyno opens and ten titans drop in, then 10 DD's go off obliterating every last dread very nearly instantly.
We are not ther yet but it is going to be soon the only way to go into 0.0 is as one of the old alliances thrawls. Right now if if an alliance wants and is organized and numerous enough they can carve out their own little kingdom. That is going to be a thing of the past when established alliances have 60 titans lying about, the only way to get a foot hold will be to steal someone elses titans or convince someone to sell them too you.
So yes there is a problem and Titans will ruin eve at the current rate. I unfortunantly do not see a clear way to solve the problem. Titans belong as the core of a fleet not as the entire fleet. Some how a group of titans needs to be made more vulnerable if they are not supported by a fleet of lesser ships.
