Originally by: Adriana I disagree. The 15 minutes might end up with the pirate sitting at a safe spot, but it also allows people to set up gate camps waiting for them to try and leave. This can lock them down even longer.
Not only that, if you have a 5 minute timer of gate guns, thats 10 minutes faster that a PK can leave for another system, and go to another belt where people haven't heard the screams in local yet, and gank someone else.
If anything, the whole thing needs to be raised to 30 minutes. gate guns and all.
TBH ive never had a victim organise any sort of blockade setup by targets
Id rather they just got evemails telling them where i was for the next hour than this current lameness, that way they can come for us if they really want to but we dont have to sit on our asses waiting for nothing to happen.

Ok, after these discussions pls could you make a couple or three changes.
1. reduce sentry timer to 5 mins. 2. extend flagged time to 30 mins or more. 3. give us bad folk modules so we alone can warp to ships on the scanner.
best regards as always

The only problem with this is that very few empire corps would come for revenge or could even assemble a fleet in any decent time.
The 15 minute timer really is just another way of killing the gaming experience for pirates
If you were waiting for the opportune moment that was it... |

Well, I amy not be what many would consider a pirate...esp since I dont care about isk.
But all the current thing does is force the fleet to wander around rill its gone.
The people that would and could mount a retaliatory attack wouldnt need the timer anyway. ____________ Sex / Rank 9 / SP: 1280 of 2304000

In response: Even if you setup a gate camp, which just does not happen in perhaps 99% of cases, as soon as you open up on the pirate after that 15 mins that hes been at a safespot, you yourselves would become flagged, unless they have uber low security status.
I think if the timer was reduced to 5 mins, and the flagging time increased as per the original post, you would find yourself more likely to be able to kill these guys.
Ok, so the pirate leaves the system, all you have to do is follow, and remember we're talking in the sence of 'one pirate' not 10 so you don't need to get a fleet, just go after them guns blazing. If you really wanted to gank them, you should be able to keep track of them, finding people in EvE is very easy indeed.

Edited by: Jubba theMad on 18/08/2004 14:12:46 The timer idea has it's heart in the right place, but is a bit directionless in execution.
I think instead there should be two things:
1) A permanent crim tag in favour of the person you ganked (and possibly either his corp or anyone in his gang). Not 15 miniutes, not 30 minutes, but forever (well, maybe a month). I mean, you just killed him - sure its none of concords bussiness but should they really be stopping him comming after you? This should certainly happen if you pod someone.
2) faction standing hits like for attacking convoys, but more severe. They should also affact standings with factions the vicim has high standings with. As I understand it, if these faction standings get very low, the various faction guns & ships will attack you on sight, and you can't use their facilities, until your standing improves again. In my view this is: a) a much more sophisticated and realistic way of modelling NPC responses - if you hunt in their space, they'll get annoyed. If you kill their friends, they'll get annoyed. Destroying their agents and their ore miners is exactly what should be getting their goat; b) It uses a model already in use in the game - the convoy system (apparently) gives you standing hits on the system owner, the local station owner, and the owner of the ships. This is easily addapable to the system owner, every station owner in the system (because hurting traders/miners etc in their system hurts everyone there economically), and the NPC friends of the victim. Response should be graduated - if you kill someone with 10 standing with Quafe, i.e. they want to have his babies, then you naturally take a big hit with Quafe and will be KOS at their stations until your faction rating improves; and c) At a stroke it vastly increases the significance of NPC corporations and factions in the game. Now they are much more reactive to player events (i.e. killing their employees(agents)), and players (pirates) have to be much more aware of their relationship with NPC corps. These standing ratings are currently a bit of a nothing feature, because so few things affect them significantly.
In summary, one of the things that annoys me about this game is the plain dumbness of the NPC factions - this is one way of making their interaction with players in the game a little bit more dynamic. ------------------------------------------------

I like your idea's Jabba, those changes would add a bit more depth to the game.
The idea of increasing the timer to a week or month would make it very interesting. Maybe the whole corp should be allowed to attacked that person for the given time.
The above idea could also be put into effect for Ore Thieves, thus killing two birds with one stone!

I think Ore thieves should be allowed to carry on doing what they do as it is atm, secure cans are there for a reason.
As for a permanent flag, people have that already. Anyone with a sec rating lower than -5 can be attacked anywhere, anytime and by anyone... what else do they want?

I am aware that anyone with -5 and below is a target under any circumstance, but for those that are starting a career in piracy or theft it can add a little more amusement to others.
This game is about fun so the more chance you have at getting back at someone the better imo
