-its simply too easy to get stuck in a WH. If someone besides yourself or your crew jumpin the gate out will collaps. Now this doesnt sound like much of a deal until you try to scan youself out.
Note! since most WH has dosens of cosmic anomalities scanning them all out might take days if at all possible. I had to selfdestruct my faction fitted golem to get out.....
Solution to this is to make it easier to scan out a WH from inside one, or atleast provide information it is of right type alot earlier. I suggest you are noted its a WH at 5% signal when already inside.
Unless somthing is done theres a big risk of griefing/ransom people inside a WH

So w-space isn't ezmode solozone where you can jump in and out at will. Sounds good to me.

a) You suck at scanning, and/or
b) You didn't use a dedicated scanship
Most likely both.

No. The inability to choose what to look for balances out how insanely fast you can probe **** out in the new system

So... your complaint is that wormhole space, which it has been explicitly stated is designed to be easy to get stuck/lost in, is easy to get stuck/lost in?

Yes, and? You've obviously missed the entire point of W-space, and it's clearly not for you. ---

Let me fraze the devblog:
------------------ While there will always be a way ‘out' of whatever W-space system you are in, there are no guarantees that it will take you where you want to go. The mechanic is deliberately designed so that you can get lost and it may take some time for you to escape back to K-space with whatever treasures you've managed to salvage. The only sure fire option that will get you where you want to go is to eject in your pod and clone jump home the old fashioned way. -------------
The problem here is that SOME TIME is actually several days if possible at all, and unless you have tried to scan your way out from a WH then STUFFIT!!!! Probing is not easy in any ship after they added deviation, and when you have >20 hits to scan out it will take days even from a "lowsec" WH.
THIS ISNT "CAN GET LOST" THIS IS "WILL GET STUCK FOR A WEEK SCANNING"

If you bookmark the wormhole that you come in from, it will still be there when you go back, unless you collapsed it when you came through.
If you right click the wormhole prior to jumping and click "show info" it will show you an estimate of how close it is to collapsing.
If it's near collapse and you're in a busy system you probably don't want to risk bringing a ship in that doesn't have a probe launcher - even if you don't collapse it, the next person might.
Of course, the alternative, like so many things in EVE, is don't do everything in busy systems. Find a quiet system where if you find a wormhole it's not too likely that anyone else will be using it (at least on that end), and that way, you can watch over the mass limit a little better.
If you DO manage to get stuck... well I hope you fit a probe launcher. If not, it's either eject-self destruct time, or you had better start hoping that someone finds your WH system and is willing to let you piggy back out on their Wormhole. (Maybe even for a fee)
This is all GREAT gameplay... you need to be careful when going out into the unknown.
And when it comes down to it, what's the worst that can happen? You lose your ship, and your pod. It's no more risky than going into 0.0 when you think about it in those terms. And WH-space is 0.0... it's just 0.0 you can get to from ANYWHERE.
If it's too hot for you, stick with something safer.

The more mass goes in, the smaller the WH gets until its so small it collapses. If to many people go in, obviously it closes.
When in big fleets, bring 1-2 scanners with you and stop whining.
Sometimes you have to sacrifice something to get something.

Lol, so you ran with the masses and went into a wormhole someone else showed you? Doesnt make you the exploration expert really.
FYI, op is about how wormholes have a ton of signatures to probe down, something you obviously didnt bother to try or you'd see that finding a new way *somewhere* can take you days if you are unlucky, let alone the signatures you can only probe with maxed skills if at all which dont make it easier.
He's not asking for an easy way back home, he's asking for a way out of the current system that is easier to find, no matter where it leads.
Getting lost isnt a problem to gameplay, but getting stuck is.

And succesfully probed your way out of system after it collapsed?
How many sigs did you have to probe before you found the exit, and how many hours did you probe?
Did you find it difficult to separate 10+ signatures in a 4au radius while hunting for a specific one?

LOL Wich means you havent tried to scan inside the wormhole wich is the entire problem.....
If this is no such biggi, jump yourself in and out of a WH till it closes and then scan your way out. Id like a report on how long it took you. See ya in a couple weeks....

So a solo marauder (aka not a real scanship) wont be a great solow-spaceboat? Good.
W-space isn't "Hey I'll go solo rat in w-space for awhile". Bring friends (preferably with dedicated scanships) and/or be ready to stay in w-space for awhile.

This has nothing to do with dedicated scan ships, there are simply to many sigs. Even if you scan them down one at a time and BM them the deviation will make you run in circles. Some systems i got 20+ hits, 1 of those is a WH... If you cant go one at a time to narrow the field, you are left with blind luck. There needs to be something, even simply boosting their strength would work. Or making it so the Unknown, Radar, Ladar etc shows up sooner. Or really just let me X-out hits that I have already scanned down so I don't chase my tail, I can handle scanning 20 sigs, but scanning 20 sigs 10 times is not fun.
I will reinforce what others have said, if you havnt scanned in W-Space for a way out, you have no idea, it is worse than you think. Hard is one thing, then there is just blatantly annoying.
Edit:
One more thing, having multiple scanning ships only kinda helps you can say well you take that half ill take this, but you will still have people scanning down the same site.

sounds like the mechanic is working!!
still wish they would change the scanning system to let your ship act as a low range medium strenght probe though.
on-board scanner plus 3 probes would be the best scanning system imo.
that way in wormhole space you could find asteroid belts and such without a probe launcher.

Go try and find what you are looking for in W-Space, you will find plenty of things but when you are looking for a specific type, good luck. Overall i love the new scanning system but not having any way of differentiating types of sites plus very large numbers of hits + large deviations equals a flawed system. Two of those is perfect but all three is just to much.

You don't need to probe a site down completely before you know what it is. You should be able to rule sites out pretty quickly.

You cant bookmark them, and hence have no way to place a 'marker' on the map to rule it out in subsequent scans.
The problem comes when there are lots of sigs in a tight cluster, try ruling them out without really probing them all down, its next to impossible.
Going by the type is fine and dandy for probing the way in as you usually have only a few sigs around, but once inside when you have 30 minimum it is a real pain.

So I'm stuck in W-space (entered through hi-sec), in a rigged buzzard, with level 4/5 for all skills, and i can attest to the impossibility of finding an exit wormhole. It's pretty simple scanning the outer planets that's further out to rule out certain sigs, but once I get to planet 6, theres 12 sigs overlapping with P5, and a 4AU scan from P1 gives 20 sigs.
The current system just doesn't seem to allow for an exit to be found without spending endless hours and getting extremely lucky.

Edited by: Grey Point on 09/03/2009 07:16:24 I went into a WH for the first time tonight. I'd never used the scanning mechanism before tonight. Upon entering, I decided the first thing I'd do was try to find another WH. With just the first system-wide scan, I felt overwhelmed with the number of hits I was getting. I thought it'd take forever to find another WH.
I found another WH within 15 minutes. Same story for the three other W-systems I went through, eventually finding my way back to k-space. The whole process took me about an hour.
Just scan, doofus :/

Edited by: Dread Jack on 09/03/2009 07:33:51 The OP has a valid point. Trolls, try this yourself or go home. In a w-space with many planets, you have the potential for dozens of signatures and no way to filter or eliminate unwanted sites. I scanned for 12 hours searching for a wormhole exit and did not find one. How many EvE players have this kind of time to dedicate at one sitting before all those sites change? If all I did every time I was able to log in was scan scan scan, I'd quickly quit EvE. That said, the devs seem pretty proud of this monstrosity of a time sink they've created. "Working as intended". Keep this cautionary tale in mind when you venture into the unknown.
