Go get a job you say? I'm afraid that in some places, Iceland in particular, things just aren't that simple.
Perhaps some of you should read the news?
Anyway, I don't have a card with shadermodel2 either, though I knew about the changes. Was rather hoping I'd not have so many living expenses by the time this happened, but it looks like I'm going to have to let my account lapse for a while until things get better. I'll be back, though.
EDIT: whoops, said shadermodel1 instead of 2.
Well, a SM 2.0 card if not in a laptop is DIRT CHEAP these days, as are most cards based around SEVEN YEAR OLD tech. Even a single month of lapse should help boost your account enough to afford one.
Well, for one thing, the problem is more than just the card. I have a very old rig. Also, I am currently unemployed and actively seeking employment. Also, I paid for EVE with GTC/PLEX through isk.

You're an ungrateful cheap *** who bought a laptop thinking it's for gaming. :D
Actually, my laptop is four years old but can run even full premium (not WELL, but it can). The best part is, it's even expressly NOT for gaming - yay, NVIDIA Quadro card.
You're an idiot who thinks that people shouldn't be upset that their laptops don't support old technology. I fully understand why they're irked at the new changes, as Eve was likely accessible because it DIDN'T require a rig capable of playing Crysis. Still, these days pretty much ANY value laptop can run SM 2.0 programs (because it's seven years old). LRN2PC.
Wow, go read more, Laptops are not supported for Gaming and most laptops aren't created with Gaming in mind, if you Game on a laptop and run into problems, you have no right to complain.
Stop twisting my words, nowhere did I say that a laptop can't game, I said they shouldn't be gaming.

Well a fast list
For Nivida Anything older then Geforce FX series will not run this game. For ATI anything older then ATI 9500 will not run the game ( Except: R300) For Intel anything older then 900 will not run the game.
Then there is granted more companies making graphic cards but the list above should cover at least 99% of you guys out there. Pretty much if you have an comp newer then 5 years old you should be fine, Laptops could be a bit more trickier however.

Finally! Someone who's not just flaming people for being too cheap to spend hundreds of dollars/euros on a new system, and sees that some people may have been playing Eve precisely because it was accessible on a laptop. Well done that man.

I would recommend to any requiring a new graphics card they go to "RL SUPPLIES", they provide next day delivery up to 5 pm i believe for uk and are very competively priced. There is a phone number on there site and you can ask advice based on your machine and what card you would need to meet minimum specs for eve now. I have bought all my pc and accsessories from these people for the last couple of years now and never had an issue just google them ;-)

Granted the only AGP card on the list was in that price range because it was an open box, but really the desktop PC users have nothing to worry about.

And it even has SM4, so it will run for a few more years... _________________________ EveAI.Live - The EVE-Online API/class library for .Net, C# and VB.Net |

Also once again, go ask all the major Game developers and hardware manufacturers, they will tell you what I have said "Most laptops are not meant for gaming and they will not be supported on our game if you have problems, if your lappy runs the game fine then good for you but if you run into a problem, we don't care, get a desktop".

This is completely misinformed... Laptops, even if the hardware is identical in name, is not identical physically. You'll notice the 'M' after the components, for mobility or whatever it is. Boards in laptops are (somewhat) less powerful than the equivilant boards in desktops. It is unavoidable.

I dont think anyone gave it a second thought because all the newer machines come prebuilt with a 2.0 shader. but this 3 year old machine just has the requirments nessasarry, well HAD.... Anyways It should have Been POSTED BIG somewhere not in little tiny subprint ... I was all excited reading all i could and BLAMMMM no more eve ... Whats the Point of the LITE version again?????

The point. <-- It means you should have upgrade your computer long ago regardless what you're doing.
DEV BLOG from Jan 13. <--- Almost 2 months in advance.
If you only have PCI slots, get a GeForce 5200FX.
I recommend getting a new motherboard (with integrated graphics), CPU, RAM, and Power Supply(one that has a 24pin connector)
The integrated graphics now, are more powerful than a 9200 card. I myself had a 9250 PCI card a year ago, and upgraded what I said above. The games run similar in performance and I get shader model 3.0. Afterward I bought an 8800gt and that was the end of upgrading for me.

If you own a 6600 like my brother it isnt a problem. 6600 is a fine card and the toned down textures wont be a problem unless your harddrive is real slow and so loading the textures for ships will be slow. The other part of the lag wont be fixed with faster hardware.
