I guess there was mention of min. system requirements somewhere in advance of this patch THOUGH I NEVER SAW IT nor was warned ... I was under the assumtion that premuim lite would replace classic eve and not effect graphics for the low end Cards... HA HA jokes on me. I know I need to replace the Radon 9200 (yha it's super old) but was hoping to get buy for a couple more years. I dont think anyone gave it a second thought because all the newer machines come prebuilt with a 2.0 shader. but this 3 year old machine just has the requirments nessasarry, well HAD.... Anyways It should have Been POSTED BIG somewhere not in little tiny subprint ... I was all excited reading all i could and BLAMMMM no more eve ... Whats the Point of the LITE version again?????

It has been all over the forums and the main website for quite some time, and there has been a devblog about it.
Perhaps next time someone should come to your residence and alert you personally?

Little tiny subprint? They have insisted a lot on the shader model 1 getting discontinued.
Try to be a bit more active on checking forums and dev blogs next time, and gl with the upgrade :)

There was plenty of information regarding the discontinuation of the classic client. You can't really blame CCP for your own ignorance, can you?

There was an image in the center of your client just like the advertisments warning you and in the news page on log in in the right hand side of char selection, as well as a warning on the main page here. They tried. _

Radeon 9000, 9200, 9250, 8500LE/9100 created in Late 2001. Two Thousand and One. It was OLD before EVE was in beta.
CCP warned, and put up a MOTD, and created a dev-blog regarding the move to SM2.0 / SM3.0

CCP was basically supprting two clients -- making development harder. Ths was announced and stickied in forums, and even had a few dev blogs dedicated to the subject. Upgrade your card, and you'll thank yourself later.

More than one dev blog on the subject, and several front page news items.
But be thankful that you can replace your graphics card, you should be able to get something truly awesome for the price of a couple of months worth of eve*, some people are stuck with the need to replace a whole laptop.
* my 9600, which is SM2 capable was bought 3 years ago for $20, so think what you can get today thanks to the awesomeness that is Moore's law.

Edited by: El Liptonez on 10/03/2009 15:12:12 I understand people crying about CCP removing SM 1, but wtf, how old is SM1? 100 years? 200 years? Where's the problem with getting a ****ing 1$ SM2 graphics card? I don't get it, honestly... And the cherry on the cake is whining about CCP not having said anything... Didn't you read last 2 month's newspapers?

Time for an upgraded card all of you low end folks. 32mb cards are dinosaurs.
I dont know if you can buy a card for less than 256mb anymore.
try gforce 8800 1gb or similar and you wont have to worry for a few years.

You can't expect them to keep supporting ancient technology, even if you bought that card 5 years ago you must have found it in the rubbish bin.

Newflash, this just in: You can't just stuff an 8800 into a videocard slot and expect it to work. Most of these people have computers that either feature agp or onboard.

Radeon 9200 is more than 3 years old. Would you buy a new Quad core today and slap in a 6600? Do you want CCP to give you a refund or something?
A video card that will play prem. will cost you about $20 on Ebay so don't cry to anybody on the forums.

Why is it that people will come in and rant and rave about CCP not telling what they are doing... when they have DevBlogs and the like up MONTHS in advance... Read before you post people? Wha? |

Worst part about it is if you do buy a cheap graphics card, you'll be running on low, so you still have to download and install a gig of useless data. ___________________________________

I'm sorry but your machine is much older than 3 years old. As someone stated the 9200 series of cards was old in 2001, they were probably sold for another year or so as budget cards but were likely discontinued shortly after EVE was released. Perhaps consider spending a few hundred dollars to buy a new system that will be about 10x faster than your old one and consider donating your old one to the museum of natural history, cause it's a freakin dinosaur!!

CCP mentioned it in a number of places, a number of times.
Possibly they could have done more (don't quite know why they didn't email every account about it), but ultimately, the information was available through many channels; anyone keeping only moderately abreast of the patch development would have definately known.
A SM2 card should cost around $30.
Seriously, get over it, or shut up.

Best to go mid range or high end. never buy low.
Low end cards area waste of money

Like others have said, this information has been available for quite some time. It's simply not fair to trash developers because they've decided it's no longer economically viable to support ancient hardware.
I know you said the 9200 was old, but if you bought it 3 years ago with your PC then the card was already 5 years old when you got it. The 9200 was released in 2001 and modern graphics cards being released now are usually Shader Model 4.x.
