They form 25 man fleets which turn and run when confronted with a similar sized force and waste their time in complexes because they think that a fake war can be 'won'.
If the squids wanted a fight they would form fleets and meet the gallente head on. If they want ranks they can sit in a complex and then beat their chests about it. Or maybe the squids are too afraid to lose anything bigger than a cruiser and that's why they stick to small plexes and complaining about rewards.
Congratulations on achieving meaningless ranks for runnng meaningless complexes in an attempt to win a meaningless war.

If you get lost on the way, just look for the Blue Street signs, you're close by.
You don't have a single kill or loss on our board. Matter of fact you don't have a single kill or loss on Battle Clinic.
Damnit wish I would have checked that before I wasted my time reply to your hi sec care bear FW arse.

I've thought a great deal, about why and how Eve works so exceedingly well as a vehicle for entertainment, and while the answers are complicated, one thing stands out:
Cool and very rewarding experiences happen when you are willing to wait out the boring, the difficult and the frustrating to get to the sweet stuff.
Its simple really. The Gallente have not been willing to do the work as a group of pilots, and the Caldari have, and so we have excelled at Plex Warefare, and have had access to quality small to mid gang Pvp that comes with that.
There are reasons for this lopsidedness, having to do with Faction standing issue and complications around access to Jita's markets, or Caldari Rat Ecm.
But really in the end Foom Proved all that didnt matter and could be overcome.
I think that the major factor in the lack of participation in Plex ops by the Gals has to do with the Gank mentality in the game.
There is this tendency for Pilots to want a sure win and a quick Pvp fix.
The Caldari gained the upper hand quickly in the war as we adpated to Foom's strenght and successes, and When Foom left, we carried that considerable momentum on into the plex war with obvious success.
I have personally seen the 22nd GAIN pilot numbers, experience, and operational proficiency over the last 3 months while I have seen the Gallanete, feild but:
Val Erian and friends, 30 pilot Blobs, a few small plex fleets of 3 to 10 pilots.... A effort yes to be sure...but?
Where are the Gal Pilots running any plexes in Verge vendor for example?
I mean The main Caldari plexing fleets operate over 4 regions and so I've roamed to be sure and plexed far and wide and yet I see that the Gals still refuse to see any merit to plexing.
And so miss out on the Pvp that goes with that.
Ive been tempted to Fund Val and his buddies isk to just keep them in the fight.... WE have had such amazing run and gun battles with him and his!!
LOL
Its not complicated:
Gals if you want a solid challange then run 1 to 10 person fleets and take plexs back one by one and you will have all the Pvp the 22nd and the other Caldri Militia corp can throw at you ... daily.
Forget the sure win mentality as Val did when he pushed 6 Caldari pilots out of a major unrestricted in but a solo Ishtar, with a mwd and rack of sentry drones.
One of the most amazing fights I've lost yet and it was a Highlight of my Militia career to be sure.
Just Do it!!
Onward

Originally by: Atraxerxes I agree completely that ECM sucks worse than Damps. But for some reason when everybody got their nano nerf wish (a ship that could move faster than ammo is just wrong) missile damage got nerfed too.
So I'd like to get an honest answer from the 3 Gallenete pilots who were plexing before & after Quantum Rise, are you take more, the same or less damage in Caldari plexes now?
Please, honor the 1v1 Q&A on this thread.
AX
I'd say about the same. Instead of taking a zoomzoom interceptor and speed tanking everything you take an AF, put an AB, a SAR, and as many resistance mods as you can squeeze on, and just tank it.
Ishkur is most favored since a rail fit can still do about 3/4 of it's normal DPS when it's ECM'd.
And I agree that FOOM were the **** - I'm sad they're gone, but we're stepping up, slowly but surely.

Every time we came into a system where the 22nd were they just ran. And ran and ran.
You can't catch small ships in empire, so they waited in their plex until we arrived on the gate, we warp in. They are 60km away on the button/thing. As soon as we get to 40km they warp off.
WHERE IS THE FUN IN THAT. HONESTLY? WHERE?
You can't bait, as the time it takes to get into a plex your bait ship is dead, you can't gank as the time it takes to get into a plex, and you can't expect even numbers as the time.. oh no, thats just EVE!
Even FOOM knew that plexing was a waste of time. So I offer you all the systems you want. You'll then have nothing to do, then you might actually try and win the war you are in.

Bingo. (I guess not in the way you meant though)
FW is also "just" a permadec. You get sentry gun- free pvp, (Ceptors and AFs galore compared to pirating) you get some Concord- free hi sec PVP and you can still engage most targets in lo sec and take the sec hit if you want, just like when pirating. (Only got a couple of thousand more blues than a regular pie but it's a small downside TBH)
Perfect, really!
I love PVP, I could also be in a Pirate corp or a PVP- centric 0.0 corp but I think I'm getting the most out of my subscription being in a good PVP- centric FW corp and getting endless small gang fights in varied shiptypes and basically no megablobs or POS warfare. What's not to like?
I still couldn't care less about who's "winning" the PVE war as long as I'm getting fights and having fun... Sorry! ---

Gotta agree with my corpies.
No bubbles, no politics, minimal caps and POS compared to 0.0, free war-decs, minimal logistics, different shiptypes usable on gates (drone boats \o/) Black Rise is fairly banging in my opinion, loads of targets and the list of local pirates reads like a who's-who. BYDI, swigg, invictia (not sure if you're pirates but I hear scary things)... I've had a great fight with a Red Box faction BS gang, even seen Veto make several passes thru. Not to mention several smaller corps which seem capable as well.
I'm getting exactly what I want outta FW without plexing, therefore I won't plex. If Caldari enjoy it then by all means have a merry time doing it, that doesn't mean we're playing FW wrong or losing when we're willing to concede the plexes.
That said the speed of which you're plexing is rather impressive, so I'll tip my hat to that. Just don't demand I try to stop it. |

So it boils down to this. The Caldari say they want to pvp in the plexes and want the Gallente to come chasing after them. On the other hand you have the Gallente saying that if the Caldari want to pvp at all, why not get a fleet together and meet them head on in the Tama pipe.
So its really not an issue of what FW is or it not. Its an issue of what 2 different sides want, which will never be resolved.
Maybe if the Caldari put together some head on fleets and the Gallente did a little bit more plexing it would be more fun all around

When Foom lived next door to us in Black rise we would often try and goad them into a fight on a gate or at there station and quite often they would ignore us or seem to be all afk. Yet if a plex opened in one of the local systems their station would spew out ships like jitta 4/4.
They would never give up either. If we pushed them out they would return and try again quite often they would push us out escpicialy there minor plex destroyer fleet was fearsome beast indeed. Running a Plex anywhere near these guys was tense affair because you knew untill that timer ran out a response was immenent.
I found this behaviour hard to fathom at first untill I took part in the campiagn to capture Verge-Vendor. You see when you have a plan and you put that plan into action taking certain plexes in certain systems becomes a must. Losing a plex in system you have been trying hard to capture for the last couple of weeks is unthinkable and the battles for these plexes becomes even more intense.
I think everyone who plexed against foom learnt a great deal from them how to target a certain area and how to fight tooth and nail for every plex.
So sure you can roam around and kill random people but for me that would be too meaningless now. Poeple think FW needs rewards well every time I open the map and I see all that Caldari space that used to be Gallentte thats rewarding. Yep changed the face of the map and diddnt have to shoot a single POS.

Did you make sure to show up in the absolute maxi gank setup you could to take on our boys??
Or did you think to bring a solid mixed small gang setup of T1 cruzers, dessies a few inties and some ewar??
A fleet setup that would be an enticing challenge to our fleet, while still providing you a bit of an edge to win??
Ive been in many many 22nd fleets and can tell you we take on fights when we deem we have a fair chance of winning.
Yes we are getting good at running when we need to, but even better at staying alive and taking systems and that means we are engaging in many interesting, semi fair fights in the course of the war.
Many many cool fights to be sure....where we do stand and give as good as we take.

I have to say it's awesome having you guys up in BR plexing, it has given us a chance to be the "Black Rise Defensive Unit" again, and it's nice to see a Gallente corp thinking about solid plexing and not just kills. Also you guys remind me of the 22nd back in December when we moved to VV, some old experienced pilots and some new guys who are still learning deep in hostile space. I will not wish you luck because it would mean I lose my home systems but I tilt my hat to your corp.
Also I still agree with every person that says "have fun how you want" who cares if plex's hold no reward, what else in EVE does? It's a game and it's made for fun.

I don't get it. I just joined the FDU today, and I'm having a hard time understanding what's wrong with plexing. It sounds like fun to me. On the militia channel people were saying it was for "stat *****s" (whatever that means), but I didn't seem to get any solid responses beyond that.
Secondly, the lack of leadership in the FDU seems to be a major factor in my opinion. The PUG mentality works against solid team building. Personally, I'd prefer to go plexing with some dedicated players that are willing to work together than go chasing down random WTs.
I'm starting to think that maybe I enlisted in the wrong militia.

nothing wrong. just very different opinions. for example i wont enter plexes cause for me its boring as hell to watch a timer go down and even more interesting for me, me standing to the caldari state is -4.8 something. yes i can train it up a bit with a social skill but then? as someone that hardly ever does mission running or npcing i`m not willing to let my standing drop too far. and whats after fw? caldari and amarr space something i "cant enter" ever again?

PLEXING OR NOT TO PLEX.
Then the answer hit me
HOW MANY PEOPLE HAVE EMO RAGED QUIT BECAUSE THEY LOST A CEPTOR/FRIG/CRUISER or LOST A SYSTEM IN FW? very few if any.
Yet the number of people I am watching in Caldari Militia Chat who a whining and crying all about Tama, about attacking a POS, about Spys. ITS HILARIOUS.. now thats why I play EVE

From my perspective the Factional Warfare mechanic is an interesting one. It has two distinct aims in my view (its important to point out this game has always been a sandbox, ie. make of it what you will, so this is simply my view...)
1) System control (whilst not giving any rewards, it certainly suggests 'winning' by having more of your colour than the enemy on the map)
2) PVP dominance (traditional stand up fights, who wins more, holds the field, mainly affecting morale & income from loot)
I personally feel that with the limited rewards offered by system capture and the cost of fleet warfare on the average pilot, you need to really take both into consideration when you decide who is 'winning' in my definition at least.
It has to be said that we as the gallente have a huge amount of work to do on the plexing side, we are being run into the ground by professional well organised teams of plexers from the caldari side, well done.
However in a stand up fight of blob vs blob the caldari cant seem the get the upper hand without some outside influence, be it private wardecs against big hitters or just avoidance techniques.
Now, im not suggesting that either side are winning, I want to make sure that is clear, but I think its worth highlighting that there are several elements to this 'game' of FW, its foolish on either side to focus on the element that we feel more comfortable with (ie. the one we are better at!).
If I as a CEO of a FW corp completely neglect plexing, more so as some of the replies here suggest, mock the results of our enemies and suggest it is not 'worth' doing, I actually leave myself quite vulnerable to my members that may actually look at this map and think, hell we suck.
Similarily, it would be quite foolish of successful plexing corporations to suggest that the large blobs can be ignored since winning systems is all that matters, since for most corps at least, beyond factional warfare the skills of large scale fleet action and performance are very much a deciding factor for success or failure.
People migrate from corporations they feel that do not offer everything they need, to box yourself off is to limit your potential. I sincerely wish factional warfare corporations and leaders would step back and look at the bigger picture once in a while.

Mitch, I live by one thing in life.
"You can't please everyone, so make sure those you do please HAVE A BLAST!"
If someone in recruitment said "I want to join WOLFY to plex" I would point out that plexing ain't what we are about. Even though we do have the 4th highest VP taker in all of FW, but then all we hear from him (Hi ash x x x) is "Man Sunday night was awesome.. WHEN CAN WE DO THAT AGAIN? just a bit later in my timezone".
I would love it if we were plexing as well as killing, turning Tama would be Soooo Funny, but thats all.. FUNNY! No benefit, no help, no difference. So why do it? I (and WOLFY) get more LULz fighting pirates, reds and even going pirate ourselves.
I respect CAIN, in the early days the Dearg v CAIN wars in BR was excellent fun. 22nd, not so much, for plexing, can't be beat but we never had a real go at each other.
WOLFY are a 40 man PvP corp. Who (as I've said many times) will use plexes to get some more fights. But if I said to my corp (BTW 20 logged in last night.. NEW RECORD!) we are going to X and I want you guys to plex I would wake up the next day with an empty corp members list and a lonely feeling in my heart.
So to those that plex GOOD FOR YOU! Its your money, go for it. But to those that plex and think your bringing us down from the inside.. I have one sentance for you .. "7 Billion ISK CNR loss? THATS GOTTA HURT! <EMO>"

At the end of the day, as long as people are having fun in FW whatever they are doing then thats all that matters.
You pay your subscription you get your fun how you want - if people prefer plexing and are good at then fair play to them. Have more fun killing people then great keep at it.
I've just moved my corp to live in Black Rise low sec with the hope of getting more smaller gang fights - Personally i much prefer killing people than plexing but, will see if we can get any fights from having a bit more of a bash at plexing and hopefully get rid of some of the Caldari s****in the process and get back some systems
Both the Caldari and Gallente have some very good corps in them (weve been in FW fighting for the Gallente for just over 8 months now) and i got to say its been a blast so far and long may it continue - As long as your enjoying doing what you do thats all that matters.

That would be what I call "incorrect". FOOM got frustrated because we were out in Black Rise capping systems while the Gallente pilots near Aeschee (what we considered home) were letting things fall to the Caldari without even trying to stop them. So we packed up and moved back home, but by then the Caldari were more organized and it was stalemate. Our pilots grew bored and we decided on a new direction with Apocrypha on the horizon.
If it wasn't clear from that paragraph, the catalyst for our boredom was the Gallente Militia's apathy for plexing. We still think plexes are a good system for FW even though we'd love to see some rewards implemented.

Exactly, couldn't have said it better myself. Our goal was to cap systems in Black Rise, so our actions reflected that. Since our opponents goal was to stop us we got plenty of PvP out of it. FW is a system of conflicting goals which cause PvP to happen. If your goal is PvP then you might get one massive fleet fight each day out of it, but if your goal is taking systems you'll get plenty of smaller fights while trying to accomplish it.
Instead of running around challenging people to meet you on the playground at 3:00, try climbing to the top of the monkey bars and yelling at the top of your lungs "I bet nobody can knock me off this thing!". You'll get a fight, it's just human nature. ;) ------------- I am the n00b that time forgot. |

We bow to the superior knowledge of FOOM, of course killboards show a slightly different picture.
You do things your way (orbit a beacon for 15mins) and we'll do it our way (small gang pvp), no need to resort to name calling is there.

Edited by: EVIL SYNNs on 25/03/2009 19:02:48 Actually if you read Frieds post, well written and put together, his conclusion was simple.
For people to do it, it has to change.
IT HAS TO MEAN SOMETHING. and in the playground saying "we hold your planets", when we did nothing to get those means nothing.
FOOM captured a whole constellation (mostly) on their own. But couldn't hold it. And as you said your A.D.D. got the better of you. I understand.. IN FACT THATS WHAT I AM SAYING!
When you kill someones ship that means they have lost something they earned. When we lose a system.. I lose nothing.
If I was losing BS after BS every night, can't mission in high sec I would have to leave the Militia to get more isk. But if we lost EVERY gallente system, I would still be here pew pewing away.
Now petty name calling is not required. I've been in FW since day 1, I've plexed and I got bored. Most of WOLFY plexed at some point and went "whats the point". And I have to reply, "There is none, now grab that ceptor and kill stuff!"
And do you know how many kills I got when I plexed.. NONE! they ran, or they hid or even worse they STABBED! so no thanks, we'll poke them with a stick and see if they come out.

LOL You realize in the last two POS fights in Tama you had BYDI reinforce the tower and a combined GAL and BYDI fleet showed up to kill it and died. Then in the secind you had Swigg do 75% of the work and you just manned the guns and got a spy in, and had like 2 BSs. Your a fine dude mitch but please those facts are undisputed and I cant think of anyone who helps us save the occasional neut or 2.
