Edited by: Admiral Dreadnaught on 22/03/2009 23:08:23 Hi,
Is it possible to automatically ban any player that says anything containing "eve-isk.com" from all channels? This is the only URL I see spammed ever, and my personal block list is getting rather large. Imagine all the spammers sitting in the block list of thousands of players, does this not cause lag?
Thanks

No because innocents would be banned.
IE:
"**** off with that eve-isk.com ****"

Then make it so if it's posted more than x times in y minutes, banhammer. They usually spam the same message several times a minute.
On a side note, I petitioned the spammer (this should really be made easier), and received a response to the petition in under two minutes.

Surely if they never saw the eve-isk from the banhammer working, they would never complain?

problem is ofc it only takes a few seconds to make a new alt, and a trial account can be easily made.
i would actually be for blocking on the url, at least make it slightly hard for them lol, or give players a way of selectivly blocking things so they can choose, like a personal work filter

why dont eve Take action against the website in concern? since the owners of the Said website are using Mailware or other crap to spam Eve?

They surely have an IP ban feature, but I can understand why they are so reluctant to use it. (dorms, etc)
I just really think they could put a couple of automatic checks in to find out the IPs of repeated offenders. Then blanket ban them. Sure, a farm in China would no longer be able to 'play' eve, but that's a good thing IMO.

Mostly because tht kind of crap is not illegal in the country the spammer operates out of, and/or CCP dioesn't have a legal presence in that country.
Reemeber, CCP is in Iceland - they would need to have a local office in the country of the spammer in order to sue them under that country's rules - Iceland doesn't have that many recioprocity agreements, so trying some company in a Icerlandic court woud be fairly meaningless.

I would prefer a simple on/off option for each channel that permits the automatic blocking of any individual message with a URL in it, so that I simply don't see it.

What we need is one of those "image with letters on them" on trial account creation window. The automated bots could not read the image and spamming would slow down or even stop since it would require actual people typing in the letters to create trial acount...

No ...
I mean so that I don't have to see any message with any link in it in any channel I've configured the setting, but I can still see plain text messages that don't contain links in those selected channels.
Therefore, in one stroke I can ignore most ISK seller spam messages plus those utterly useless scam contracts spammed in the Local channel of popular systems.

I'm no legal wizard or anything, but this would only allow them to seek legal charges against the given website under China's laws, which very well may condone RMT.

Either make it so that trial accounts can't chat in local or make it so that you can't post URL's in local.

there should b a right click report spammer thingy in all public chat windows no need for a petition just sends a mod a message of the spammer, there message and who reported them (so that abusers could be slapped down).
also they should filter out the urls of known isk seller sites
the second one may load up the sever a bit checking every string typed for a set of word's but that could b done in the client i think (im not a programmer but thats just my theory) |

How about make players be able not to show messages with certain links on them? No conflict on that one.

They're called captchas and they can already be broken by automated bots, so that wouldn't stop anyone.
As for url blocking, I'd rather just prefer to see a good old-fashioned regexp-based filter that gets updated regularly by CCP to catch the latest sites and or comedy misspellings. In addition, players could add their own to get rid of what the GMs haven't handled yet. No need to ban the spammers or keep them from creating new accounts if their messages can't be read anyway… ——— “If you're not willing to fight for what you have in =v=… you don't deserve it, and you will lose it.” — Karath Piki |

YES YES and once more YESSS... I do not care if this would "accidentally" ban message of "innocent" player just mentioning such address... I see ***king www.iskonsale.com every freaking minute on our country channel... it is terrible. PLEASE help us to get rid of this - or implement serverside featurre or give me a bit advanced version of BLOCK function since blocking single user does not really help against bot-created alts.
PLEASE!!!! __________________________________ I do it myyyy wayyyy... Milky Way. |

The easiest way to avoid those kind of message is by avoiding the public channels simply don't use them. And thats why I would LOVE a "Leave" button for local. Why canŠt I remove that channel I never use it in empire anyway

solution ive been spamming such thread for years is
Trail accounts restrict them to noobie help, max their posts to 40 per day in local and help channel ( still allows some basic questions)
Maybe prevent trial accounts posting URL links in chat except private

The trouble is a lot of the isk spammers use broken urls as is, so if there was a blocklist they'd just start doing it like eve - isk dot com, etc. Just right click > block them when you see it anyway. __________________

at least limit the number of characters a trial account can send...so the spam doesn't shove everything out of my chat box.
If I want to "buy" isk I'll do it the in game sanctioned way.

You call them captcha and they are usually trivial to counter in software. Those that are not usually manage to repel humans too...
See http://caca.zoy.org/wiki/PWNtcha for a program pretty good at the task.
OTOH I fail to see why they cannot implement bayesian filtering triggered by a right click on char "report spammer" option... Please resize signature to the maximum allowed size of 400 x 12- pixels. Navigator |

Surely if the chat is that important you would open a personal convo especially in a system such as jita.
