There's no need for CCP to allow people who don't even know where the overview is to be blown up because they're still learning all the ins and outs of the game with the worst learning curve in the entire MMO industry.
Also, a major aspect of EVE is risk. You don't risk anything by what you describe. You're absolutely invulnerable, and that's the biggest problem- when something happens in this game for which there is no counter, one will be made possible eventually. CCP has always designed this game so that ANY action you take has SOME element of risk to it. You risk absolutely nothing- you could probably go AFK and tank 20 noobships all day long.
Ganking noobs in starter systems is counterproductive, costs subscribers, creates ill-will toward a game that doesn't have a lot of it in the MMO community, makes adoption of the game less likely, prevents new blood from joining, and affects CCP's bottom line, which is why it is not and never will be allowed.
On top of all that, it's just pathetic. At least go after miners instead of noobs, they might have a combat alt or be able to switch into something that can shoot back.

I'm on the fence on the issue.
In my opinion, the new players in noobships should have an unspoken grace period of at least 1 to 2 weeks if they are in Duripant or another starter system just trying to mine. Messing with them is kind of like picking a fight with the 5 year old next door. If they do lose an Ibis or Velator, they can just dock and get another one.
On the other hand, MeatSauce has his point of "I didn't get such treatment when I started" and I think that's a valid argument as well.
But game rules change for a reason, and that reason is the all mighty REAL LIFE MONEY. If a 2 week trial account player gets his ass handed to him repeatedly, he may just decide this game is too difficult and decide not to pay once his trial is up. The hard core players will stay sure but CCP doesn't want to risk losing the coddled mamma's boy subscriber who can't take a little pvp.
False dilemma. Not being "hard core" doesn't mean you're a "coddled mama's boy".
Anyway, I spent my first 2 years carebearing it up, and had fun at it. I don't do it any more (obviously), but if I'd have been being ganked by vets before I could understand the interface, I'd probably not have bothered to finish the tutorial. You don't get long-term players by causing them grief before they've come to understand that the beauty of EVE is that you risk grief for whatever you're going for. They just don't have that frame of mind yet.

Edited by: MeatSlab on 23/03/2009 17:22:36 Edited by: MeatSlab on 23/03/2009 17:21:06 I get that its unethical or a moral issue. I still dont feel guilty if i kill a noob. Im not interested in the " ive got bigger guns" or "My man hood is bigger factor" I dont post much on the kill mail. I dont care. I dont do much can swapping. Its mostly noobs taking my can that is intended on bait for other ships. I feel that some plp responding are getting caught up in frustration with me for killing noobs... its not good for the game etc.
OK ya kewl i can understand that. I can see the point of view and it makes sense to me. Again tho. are they not givn a warning. They are stealing from me.
So... becasue they are new, improtant, and have only played for a few days, they are more valuable than me? A year old player?.. What? Seriously?
I get that they have a lot to learn and should be givn a chance. But i dont get paid by ccp to train noobs. I pay ccp to play the game. I choose to play the game within its game mechanics.
I mean I do get it. I see that moral issue and CCP point of view. I just cant understand the way the choose to "fix" the issue in the manner that they have

Not really sure who's the bigger noob to be honest... The new player who gets ganked as a result of not knowing better after undocking for the first time, or the year old player who sits around ganking Velators, then proceeds to the forums to whine about CCP saying he shouldn't do so. ____________________

Right but its kinda hard to feel sorry for a noob, just becasue he is new. "if you take from this can you could die"...

CCP did what they did just because they had to answer some complains, its not the companie's fault. back in 06 my friends and i always bait noobs in system Duripant, they take the can knowing the warning message that pops up before the cargo window and they still do it. every one does it one way or another, trying to get away with things right? its human nature, and plus its fun to do, its like high school, the freshmens gets picked on but when they become senior they do the samething. its an natural flow of cultures.

I didn't mean to imply an EVE player is one or the other. Instead, let's just say the dedicated player who can take being shot at (and maybe killed) several times will stay, and the guy who can't take it (i.e. mama's boy) is going to quit.

I'm not going to get started on argue about bait and can flipping and all that in newb systems. I'll I'm going to say is that, yes I do bait newbs, but only to teach them to be wary of cans. I always send them some isk or whatever afterwards.

OK here is how it is.......Simple...CCP needs to make system such as "noob system" conpletely off limits to say any player younger than 2 weeks..."A Trial Account" if they venture out side that system...they are fair game. I understand CCP wants to line there pockets...thats cool I would too and I understand they can not do that without protecting possible long term accounts....I get that. There needs to be middle ground and CCP needs to either take my suggestion or come up with something better than what is in place.
My personal opinion if you take my can.....and I know I can kill you..... I will. I don't target so called noobs specfically...But that a funny subject too.. What is a noob? What determines who is a noob, what are the time frames here. To me a noob is a trail account...after 2 weeks you know whats up enough to know if you take my can and I am an older player you are probably going to die. Some people might call me a noob....I am what 6 months old....I have seen 03 players that are like look at this rookie....So the topic of killing noobs in noob systems is also something that needs to be clearly defined by CCP.
Then there is the topic of well if they take the can they will learn the lesson....Ok I can see that and thats a very valid point...I have learned many lessons in eve and almost all of them the hard way and some of them more than once... But Noobs or anyone alike needs to understand that eve is a dark game..It is a game full of scammers, killers, gankers, Jerks and every other name in the book... and that is what they are instore for if they play this game....But that is what makes this game so awesome....!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Bottom line is I understand both pionts but I think CCP is going about it wrong....They need to fix it on there end... and That is my personal opinion...Bad mouth it if you will, don't care...Its an opinion get over it and dont be a little girl and start bashing people like I saw in previous post in this topic...Do you know how stupid you sound when you start bashing someone over there opinion? Sorry I just saw that ealier and I just don't understand how people dont understand that you can debate people and that people are going to have differing opinions then themselves soemtimes....
I know I use..... to muchand I don't care so. I don't want to see that either.......get over it

Ditto. "Go to null sec" they said "See the world" they said What they didn't say was that the Pee V Pee would actually be sat defending a pointless gate, in a pointless system and ganking the crap out of anything that came through - or running away screaming before everyone died.
I guess they do Pee V Pee a bit different in null sec

I think the op is right.
CCP should be proud that they have created a very harsh pvp game where even in the "high security" space, you aren't really safe. With that said, it's still very hard to be killed and griefed. You have to be pretty stupid to let another player completely harass you to the point of emoragequit.
this is the way I see it:
Since CCP made such a hard game, it's easy to lose customers since it may be TOO hard in the fact that the new players aren't used to the realistic losses you may receive. CCP is trying to bring back customers by making high sec SAFER and making general gameplay for noobs less risky (yes, even less risky than it already is). However, doing this destroys the idea of a high risk pvp game.
I think what CCP SHOULD do instead, is to make a better tutorial. As I remember, the tutorial sorta revolved completely around NPC's and such. It never really emphasized on the fact that other players can seriously impact your gameplay. If CCP made it more clear in the tutorial of what all griefers can do to you, it may make the players more aware of the risks, making them less likely to fall into can traps and stuff. unless of course, they are stupid enough to.
Making the tutorial based more on the PVP side of EVE, it may better prepare new players to the harsh world of eve, making them less likely to emoragequit with all their complaints of flipped cans and ****.

Its funny you talk about tutorial.....I went through all of it when I was new...You know how many people i have seen ask stuff in local and the answer is in the tutorail and that is what I tell them. Although you are right it doesn't cover everything that is need to play the game as far as pvp and what not. But they could atleast use the resources that are availible to them. High sec low sec.....come on guys.....That is in my opinion not what we are talking about here....I have been to low sec and getting ganked by a most of a corp at a gate is not really what I personally am looking for in pvp that is why I for now would like to stick with high sec....and that is what we are talking about....High sec pvp....

well just to me and most old school pirates shooting a noob who blunders into low sec or 0.0 is fine. intentionally going after them via a war is fine. can flipping people 1 day or even a week old is pretty nooby pirate stuff tbh. but its all piracy and thats what matters most.
we just had to few players to even consider that stuff in 2004. and we got enough hate mail from blowing up peoples ships in null and low sec to make us happy

saw a couple of people the other day in one of the tutorial systems.
Were putting out cans in front of the station, labelled "Free Gifts for new players", then shooting anyone that did. Then typing "lol" in local and such.
Was an Amarr command ship and a gallente interceptor that was doing it.
I was like seeing that.
Another system, I saw people putting out cans labelled "Take from this can to see why you shouldn't take from random cans"
People took from the can, and got shot at. Some blew up, others didn't.
Was a couple people in what they said in local were T2 fitted rookieships.
I was like seeing that.

Last I checked, canflipping newbies in starter systems, was considered griefing, and frankly that statement you made that I qouted, is pathetic. Canflip all you want, whatever floats your goat I always say. It's a game mechanic that came to be under the humorous circumstances of miners wanting to be allowed to retaliate to having their jetcans emptied in the first place. Having said that, it's still a pathetic thing for you to say that they should just "suck it up". Many have already told you that you can't force people to respond or more importantly, learn the same way you do. Beyond that it's self-evident that you're wrong. You're trying to put forth reasoning of what you're doing to justify what you're doing to others, but more likely to yourself.
You follow all the classic arguments that have been used since the dawn of piracy in EVE. "I'm just trying to teach them that they should read the warnings", "flashing red is flashing red", "not my fault they're not paying attention".
Before you deny any of this let me just re-iterate: Yes you are! Your very first argument for self-justification is saying YOU didn't complain, YOU didn't cry and YOU didn't get angry when, as a noob, it happened to you, so logically everyone else can't either. Has it ever occured to you that not everyone is like you, added to it, few have the same goals as you, added to that, even fewer have the same approach to their experiences as you.
All in all I'm not saying canflipping is bad, quite frankly I think its funny considering how it originally came to exist..I'm saying I think 2 things:
1. Stop thinking the world revolves around you Meatslab, you seem to have much deeper problems to even take on such a delusion just yet.
2. Starter systems are starter systems for a reason, so keep to the rules and dont grief there..outside of that, whatever..If it makes you happy, go for it.
