I don't really care for the music either, but it's pretty ridiculous to expect any game to feature music you could really get into, especially if you go off linking obscure music that most people don't like. How about you do what everyone else does and load those songs you linked into an mp3 player and let the sounds take you wherever you like. Problem solved. _ |

Which is addressed in my original post. Why not just include an mp3 player?
Edit: "Why not just use your media player" - Why should I have to?

Just because you don't like it doesn't mean a) it's not good, b) people don't like it. It's your preference, that's cool, but some people might disagree.
Hmmm, not what I asked.
Why is everyone against having more upbeat music? :[

Does that mean you hate the music in one of Eve's most well received trailers?

Originally by: Zantei No, the reason is to bring them closer together. To say that the trailer is nothing like the game is a fail statement.
To say that the trailers are nothing like the game was the topic of an entire thread recently, and is undeniable.
I mean, I can just see this change in effect. We get new, more 'epic' music for EVE, similar to what is in the trailers. A player gets into a fleet to head off for some PvP. The upbeat music is 'bombarding your soul' as you... warp to a gate, jump, align, warp, jump, align, warp, jump
Holy ****, this is ****ing epic!
align, warp, jump, align, warp jump, align, warp, lag, back in station
Hey, time to head to a trade hub to fit a new ship! On arrival we see... this? No. This. But with epic music. Like what it might be like if the ships in Star Wars spend their time bumping into each other, spinning around and lagging out.
Actually, this video explains it better than I can.
BTW, I love the music you linked. -

I seriously can't believe it's gotten to the stage where everyone likes depressing music.
You think everyone who doesn't like what you like is an emo fan? Here's a hint: My music is crap; barely worth being called music. So is yours. The difference is attitude. _ |

Really funny vid. :p
But still, why choose depressing music over upbeat music?

Stupid question really :[ I'm saying the music in Eve is depressing. Do you get an emotional high listening to any of that stuff, 90% of it all sounds the same.
Ok, so the attitude is different but the music is still depressing? Eve is fairly dystopian and that's the setting people choose to participate in. There's a great deal of emo in the foundation of things.
Would it ruin the game to have something upbeat in the jukebox?

I don't think it would ruin the game at all, though something like Prozzak would be horribly misplaced. There is a lot of music that fits the EVE universe... more than a Jukebox could possibly cover. I've dusted off some old albums just to go with EVE myself. I find it a lot better than trying to turn everyone's radio dial. _ |

It's not a matter of turning everyone's dial as such, just adding some more options to it.

No, you're pretty clear. You're saying Eve is repetitive and that having seriously awe inspiring music would soon begin to wear thin etc...
That's fine, it makes sense. But you're now saying that because of Eve's repetitive nature that it deserves to have dreary and monotonous music. That is like pure concentrated emo, the kind which makes your wrists burst open of their own volition.
There's nothing wrong with having a few tracks which actually inspire people rather than constantly remind them that Eve is a dystopian poo hole.

I happen to love EVE's music, and often listen to it outside EVE. You are now bringing your own dislike of it into a discussion of its suitability. -

Well, the idea was to highlight the contrast between the track in the trailer and what's currently on offer in the jukebox. You pointed that out clearly. The question is why were they trying to portray Eve in that particular way.
Undocking for the first time only to be greeted by this slow dull monotony, which some people may like, isn't going to suit everyone who is lured in by the theme of the trailer. There are better ways to inspire a sense of wonder than with lifeless tones. Yes, of course it's subjective but it can't be denied that it seems like false advertising. They could at least 'try' to cater more to the brand of music they thought was so fitting.

That's a problem with the trailer. Don't blame the game if you get sucked in by false advertising. -

Well, I was in long before the trailer. I just thought that things might begin to change and that someone at CCP had an epiphany regarding what people actually wanted to see and hear. It might have been a one off though, shame really.

Yeah, I have to say, I really enjoyed the eve music for quite a while, until I found eve-radio. However, like many have said, the eve jukebox captures the mood of being out in space perfectly. And the music isn't depressing, it's relaxing, learn the difference. If you really get depressed from this kind of music, I wouldn't suggest trying any form of meditation. Actually, you probably live your life like that movie crank, but, I degress.
I agree it couldn't hurt to put some more options in, but when that is just as easily done by opening winamp or whatever media player you happen to like, I would much rather CCP fix bugs and balance than add some songs that a fraction of the community will ever listen to.
Btw, I find Under the Asteroids (or something to that effect) in the jukebox to be quite upbeat, just not epicamzingmovieherololz upbeat.

Judging by the thread, looks like CCP made the right call.
That making the game look like it does in the trailer in an impossibility might have had something to do with it too. -
