Flying the usual setup this evening, I ran into a pirate in 0.0 also flying a thorax ... we engaged in a bit of PvP, and, well, he beat me! Fair and square, one against one. I had him down to about 25% armour before he started cutting through my hull. In the end, his setup was far more lethal.
Two things we should consider fighting against - medium nosferatus and drones! -------------

Now it wasn't a blasterax but a railgun config that has served me up 'till now... (I've gone through all the other spawn from agent missions).
The question is can the configs seen in this thread go up against that kind of punishment? My armour repair II was overwhelmed in seconds (using a named 400mm armour and energised adaptive membrane... and a smartbomb as missile defence).
Thanks for all the info here btw, i'll try it tonight .
That kind of damage is on the extreme level, it comes down to damage output. Can you kill them before they wear you down? If you can get into your optimal, preferably close so your heavydrones can reach them fast. Or warp out and fit 2x 50% hardeners against their missile type. That will make it easy, kinda cheating though but hey :)

5x Modal Light Neutron Particle Accelerator Is (w/ Antimatter charges) 1x 10MN Microwarpdrive I 1x Medium Electrochemical Capacitor Booster (w/ cap booster 400 charges) 1x Langour Stasis Webber I (or better) 1x Medium I-a Armor Repairer I (or better) 1x 1600mm Tungsten Armor Plating 1x Reactor Control Unit II 1x Energized Regenerative Membrane I or II 1x Gauss Field Balancer I (or maybe a tech two eventually)
And that's about the best I can think of right now, in my groggy, half-asleep, half-awake morning state. Thoughts? Let me know. I also apologize for spelling mistakes if I made any and missed them.
When I browsed the setups in this thread, it seemed to me that most of you couldn't agree wether to go for overall resistance increase with an Adaptive Nano Membrane or for armor increase via a Regenerative Membrane in this spare low-slot.
Since I'm using a similar setup and this is an interesting question, I spent some time with calculations, and I think I found that even a tech I nano membrane is superior to a tech II regenerative membrane. It would be nice if the experts here could review my analysis in this thread.
I would be very interested in your comments.
Thanks, Alcor.

Edited by: Juneau Daley on 19/09/2004 16:30:59 For more relatively new players who aint got the really high skills or the cash to buy named stuff or for people wanting to practice against npc rats.
3x 250mm - antimatter (optimal range 15km) 1x Dual 150mm - lead (max range 15Km) 1x 150mm - lead (max range 15Km)
3x Cap Rechargers
3x rolled 400mm plates 1x named repairer 1x energized adaptive nano membrain
alternatively replace 1 rolled 400mm for a damage modifyer such as stabliser etc....
damage dealt for me is anything from 80 per gun to 200 so if scoring all wreckers theres 1000 points per volley but i think i average 300-400 points.
with the armour repairer on full youll be able to sustain ful lrepairer and firing without loosing cap and having your drones on full assault meens msot rats are easy pickings. Im yet to try this up againt Rat BS but im palnning on taking the venture within the next day or so.
edit - went up against all cruisers in my corp except for the EW ones as i have adifferent setup and so far (with me been one of the lowest skilled members apart from those lobbing missles at me and having fast ships its lethal.

I've given up with the Blasterrax...it's cap problems are too extreme to make it worth a **** in a big fight, IMO.
I've since switched to a nice Caracal for running L3 kill missions, and haven't looked back.

Edited by: Imhotep Khem on 24/09/2004 17:49:33 Im runnin this setup now, based on what I read in this forum. Its my first non-minmatar excursion.
H 5x Light Neutron Blasters (Anti-matter)
M 10MN MWD Medium Tapered Capacitor Infusion (Cap booster with 200 charges x4) 'Langour' Drive Disruptor' (Stasis webbifier)
L Cap Power Relay I 2xRCU 1600mm Reinforced Steel Plates Medium Armor Repairer
I'm cutting through .3 space like butter. I can do .3 with just 8 heavy drones though and barely even hit the armor repairer. However, I am weary of .2. Perhaps I should grow balls? These guns just don't seem to have much bang. What if I used 3 medium guns? Do I rally need the small guns if I am using a webbifier? tracking should not be an issue then. and if I keep the guns, then can't I dump the webby for something more constructive? ____ If your not dyin' your not tryin'. |

Edited by: Van Halen on 24/09/2004 03:28:18 heres a thorax setup that will pwn all, if u have good to great cap skills and mechanic skills
3x Light Nuetrons 2x Heavy Nuetrons 1x mwd 1x webber 1x 7.5km scrambler 1 t2 med armor rep 1 t2 small armor rep 3x cap relays or drop a cap relay for a t2 hyrbid damage mod, this is an expensive setup, but worht every bit of isk.
gallente blasterboats have cap problems atm, but with the mwd bonus thorax can rule if the fight starts at no mroe than 20km otherwise run, especially if its a caracal.

IMO the web is necessary because then it's either (with NPCs) a) target flees or b) you waste cap on using MWD unnecessarily. Atleast there's a bunch of NPCs in missions that really like to stay out of blaster range and the medium blasters have trouble hitting the smaller faster frigs at times. Also, the web'll help your (heavy) drones plenty especially against smaller targets.
As for medium or small blasters... Small. Small neutrons use ~10% of Heavy Electrons grid, 75% cap, almost 3x the tracking and pretty much equal damage per shot. Switching to Heavy Electrons might give a decent damage boost (ship bonus), but in the meanwhile you'll start having trouble fitting the current stuff without wasting low slots on RCU's. I'd also suggest changing to Small Neutrons from Small Ions and dump the cap booster if it isn't absolutely necessary so you can switch those RCU's to Cap Relay's or some passive/active hardening.

Well perhaps I dont need it when hunting rats in belts. They don't seem to run much.

Yes, that was my mistake, I am using Neutrons, and 1 of them is named. But I can't fit the setup without the 2xRCUs. Can't even change a RCU for a PDS. I guess I'll have to try out .2 because .3 is just too easy. Im weary of sucking down too many heavy missiles though.
