a 5% bonus for each of a split weapons system is not two bonuses ffs. It's bad enough with fitting damage mods for split weapons, at least give the phoon a real second bonus
Also fix armor/shield HP

60k EHP, needs a tackler, but it gets 1300 DPS. Realistic DPS will be less against a battleship, around 1200 with faction torps. Sad that you need 6 damage mods on this ship, but you could always change up the fit. It is a ship I am dissapointed with because of the split weapon system, but hey you get what you get.

Typhoon is pretty nice stuff, especially considering how cheap it can be in some regions. The tradeoff of being so skill intensive is fine, considering what it can do with the right fitting.

Some things are frustrating about the Phoon (damage mods only applying to some weapons), but it's still such a badass ship (at least for PVP) that honestly it doesn't need changing. Yes, it looks like a space trashcan. Yes, it sucks at missioning compared to pretty much anything else. But it brings a lot of performance to the table in PVP, and can be fit a variety of ways. The way things are, you can easily drop a couple AC's to fit neuts/RR and still deal nice damage, while gaining RR or neut utility. If they ever buff AC's, that might be a harder call to make, lol, but overall Phoon is a great ship.
It can be fit a variety of ways, from max gank to high utility, and once you consider the price tag, it's a very strong ship. It's honestly my favorite ship in the game right now.
The only thing I might change... make it a vertical trashcan. ;p

the only problem people should have with the phoon is that it is very skill intensive. If you want to fly a ship with more powergrid, cpu, etc , fly a different BS. You will need drones, gunnary, missiles and other skills just to get into it. I rat, mission, etc quite nicely in this ship but that was after 12mil sp.

Yeah but that makes it as good or better than a Raven. Bonused target painters AND a solid armor tank that you don't have to sacrifice slots for (except cap rechargers in the mids) to run, unlike a target painting Raven? On the lower tier battleship?
Nah.

The only real change it needs is to give it a another gun and missile hardpoint if nothing more it would make it a better mission ship.
Still messing around on eft you can get some fairly good dps out of the typhoon easy 1200-1400 dps with faction ammo Death is great rember where all dying to get there. |

Yeah an extra turret and extra launcher hardpoint is something I usually suggest in Typhoon "improvement" threads. Since you're limited to eight high slots and eight weapons, the customization that the ship description text talks about is clearly inaccurate. At least you could partially make it play to a particular strength if you could have five of a preferred weapon type instead of four.
On the other hand it can be pretty monstrous with the 4/4 layout already. It can outclass a Geddon one on one, right? I mean a standard Geddon MP fit vs. Phoon?

Edited by: fkingfurious on 13/04/2009 10:44:20 Ive never figured out why people insist on calling the flying **** can a good ship.
It's got one halfway decent gank setup and thats a quad plate 900 DPS effort, which makes it a slightly tougher slightly less damaging close range slugger than a Megathron for example.
That really is about it.
All these 1300 DPS comedy fits are just that, COMEDY fits. A 60K EHP BS is a total fail fit, especially when you consider that there are several BS that can easily do 1100DPS with 120K EHP or more. If you honestly think that an extra 200DPS for the sacrifice of 60K EHP and all your EWAR or tackle kit is a good trade-off you need your head fixed.
And it's true, the ship does only have one bonus, which actually makes it LESS skill intensive.
Training a rank 8 to LVL V just to get ONE 5% RoF bonus is a serious waste of time.
All this **** about it easily being able to drop some guns for neuts is stupid as well. ANY ship can easily sacrifice bonused high slots to fit neuts, it doesn't make them good. The only reason it seems like a good idea on a Phoon is because doing so only wastes half a bonus, as each high slot only has 1 bonus attached to it compared to the vast majority of BS that would have 2.
The Phoon doesn't do anything remarkable. It doesn't out gank other gank BS with a SANE fit, it sure as **** doesn't outank them and it doesn't have magical Neutralizer capability despite what everyone seems to think. The ONLY thing it's got going for it is a decent sized dronebay.
N.B. Anyone that thinks the Domi only has one bonus needs to learn to fit it. It can do some scary **** with turets bolted on.

Phoon bonuses are fine.
Now if you want to give max 5 for turrets and launchers that would be cool. Or if you want to give it more power that would be nice.

I lol'd when I saw the name of the one posting this, because you pretty much just said it for me. Points to you for that.
I don't doubt this is a 1.3k dps setup, but just have a clarrification or two to make.
First up, I'm assuming you used all 5 skills to get those figures. That is over a years worth of training - in fact I worked it out with a friend once, it would take him 450 days to get all the skills to fly it with that damage.
Second; it's on-paper dps. You'd have to be right in your (tiny) optimal with a target that sits still to get full damage from the guns, and rage torps are laughably bad unless they've got a MWD running on a battleship or you've got someone following you around with half a dozen target painters. Also that EHP is achievable in most battlecruisers.
So yeah by all means this ship can reach some impressive damage, but the question is; why would you want to when another can do similar things with a fraction of the training time and more reliably to boot?

Quote: So yeah by all means this ship can reach some impressive damage, but the question is; why would you want to when another can do similar things with a fraction of the training time and more reliably to boot?
Thats the thing. Currently with max skills the phoon is the only mini BS which can compete with other races. If you change or add another bonus it would be OPed. Below is a fit with 144k ehp and does 1000dps non-heated. ( 950dps using faction ammo ). Also has web+scam+MWD+eccm.
4x Siege Missile Launcher II 4x Dual 650mm Repeating Artillery II
100MN MicroWarpdrive II Faint Epsilon Warp Scrambler I Stasis Webifier II Prototype ECCM I Ladar Sensor Cluster
Armor Explosive Hardener II Damage Control II 2x Energized Adaptive Nano Membrane II 3x 1600mm Reinforced Rolled Tungsten Plates I
3x Trimark Armor Pump I
5x Ogre II
Mini BS's are broken but its not because of there lack of bonuses.

Edited by: Bronson Hughes on 13/04/2009 16:31:23 'Phoon is fine. It takes a crazy amount of training to fly well (Projectiles, Missiles, Drones, Tank, etc.), but it's one of the few ships that is really versatile in how you can set it up while still actually being effective in those setups. In essence, it has 4 utility high slots while still having damage bonuses for all 8 hardpoints. You can fit a 'Phoon:
Full Gank - guns and missiles Neut/Gank - guns or missiles, neuts/NOS Remote Rep - So many different combos here it's not even funny Bait - Can you say 'ZOMG buffer tank'?
Need I go on?
EDIT:
Originally by: fkingfurious It can do some scary **** with turets bolted on.
Quoting for emphasis despite being slightly off-topic. I've actually flown a Domi once or twice where my primary ignored me and my guns entirely and wasted a lot of time trying to kill the drones that I had attacking someone else. Very amusing. -------------------- "I am hard pressed on my right; my centre is giving way; situation excellent; I am attacking." - Ferdinand Foch at the Battle of the Marne |

fix large projectile and the 5% rof for projectile will be useful. if the phoon need something is better speed/agility (not speaking about nanobs but a real advantage over the others since u have to plate it anyway), and shield and armor HP switched or at least tweak them to be equal each other. more shield than armor was fine when you could have filled lows with nano and damage mods but nowdays its not the case anymore.

nice dps but **** poor range. really really poor range u better have a tackler or 2 on standby to pin em down so they can't move and you better hope u land close as you need to be at point blank to do dmg with this beast.
tbh a raven can put out almost 1100 dps with rage torps and will have longer range and more slots for tank / ewar, and can run 2 heavy neuts while it's at it. geddon can put out 1150 again with more range and without the sig trouble the other 2 have. it's a nice setup in eft but not the best use of the phoon imo.

I agree completely with this. And it seem that most minmatari ships turn out like this except the ones specifically designed to go fast. They seem to contain the fault of not being particularly good at much. The minmatari pilots (I used to count myself as one) rejoice when they manage to find a fit that compares in one aspect so someone else's ship even though it's usually a comedy fit that lacks completely in every other aspect. As you put it usually it requires completely doing away with any form of Ewar. But these fits get defended because if it's crazy and will take 3 years of training to fly with even a close approximation of the result you can get out of any other ship after a year of training the pilots feel leet flying them.
Maybe I just don't like flying a gimped ship that can only outperform another ship in the class if I have 40mil skill points on my enemy.

Two setups that I use with the typhoon. One for all-out ganking (against confirmed capitals/battleships) and the other for a more "operational" low-sec pirating gang setup. ---------------------- Requires 5% CPU Implant [Typhoon, The Ganker] 3x Gyrostabilizer II 3x Ballistic Control System II 1x Damage Control II
2x Large F-S9 Regolith Shield Induction 2x Invulnerability Field II
4x 800mm Repeating Artillery II, Republic Fleet EMP L (Usually Hail) 4x Siege Missile Launcher II, Mjolnir Torpedo (Usually Rage Torps though)
(I don't usually rig it but you can put on the shield rigs)
Ogre II x5 ---------------------- Other one is this (mostly used on the gate):
[Typhoon, Lowsec] 3x 1600mm Reinforced Rolled Tungsten Plates I 2x Energized Adaptive Nano Membrane II 1x Damage Control II 1x Large Armor Repairer II
1x 100MN MicroWarpdrive II 1x X5 Prototype I Engine Enervator 1x Warp Disruptor II 1x Phased Weapon Navigation Array Generation Extron
2x Dual 425mm AutoCannon II, Hail L (or Rep Fleet EMP) 4x Siege Missile Launcher II, Inferno Rage Torpedo (Or Cal Navy) 2x Medium Rudimentary Energy Destabilizer I
3x Trimark Armor Pump I
Ogre II x5
The top one gets over 1100 DPS and is dirt cheap in comparison to buying a Maelstrom or Abaddon and fitting it up to do its thing. Bottom one is cheap too (rigs buff price a bit) and still puts out about 700 - 750 DPS depending on your ammo and all the in-combat stuff going on.
The ONLY complaint that stands up to arguing about the Typhoon is the skill time. But even then, with HORRIBLE skills (mostly T1) you can still get a 550+ dps setup out of this ship with a decent buffer tank...and it's even cheaper with T1!
The phoon's best perk is the price tag in combination with the dps and tank you can squeeze out of it. Not to mention the phoon isn't usually afraid to take on many targets...but many targets won't take on a phoon. ---
