Playing Eve about 3 months now. Performed FLAWLESSLY! until that last patch. Now when I run the client my monitor resets its self. Not just once, but over and over and over and over about every second. I have to get lucky to click the 'I agree button', enter my PW and eve will start. But more time than not the graphics are totally Fubared and I have to re-log again and again and again until I get lucky and it displays correctly. THEN it's massively laggy and locks up continually!! Reboot, start the process all over.
This was a couple days ago. I made sure video drivers for my gForce 128mg card were the lastest. Made sure DX9.0b was up to date. Installed a fresh copy of the Eve client. If anything, it got worse. Along with everything described continually happening, it sometimes reboots my machine when it start the client or just shuts off the monitor!! ???? Computer's running, monitors off. EVERYTHING on my comp performs normally, other games(online or off), applications, graphic demos, etc. etc. All these problems ONLY happen when I run the Eve client. And, allow me to repeat once again, Eve ran/performed FLAWLESSLY before the last patch. Once the patch was installed all this began.
I have been jacking with this for over 3 days now. Like I said, it ran FLAWLESSLY before the last patch and NO changes were made to the computer since it was flawless. I'm convinced it was some bulls**t in the last patch that fubared Eve for me.
I loved this game, played it daily. Now I'm FORCED to cancel my subscript because it has become totally unplayable.
Thanks CCP for turning the best computer gaming experiance for me into a steaming load of defication.
(Ok, I'll jack with it for another day or so but if I hear nothing from the CCP folks in response to my petition in that time, I'm cancelling and giving EvE and CCP all the bad pubicity this one p.o'ed person can muster.)
Grrrrr......
Eve has turned into a piece of crap.
I did it all. Uninstalled all my drivers, the Eve client. Updated it all, reinstalled it all. No results, lock-ups every minute or two, computer re-booting etc.
I even tried disabling the sound (audio=0 in the prefs.ini file) with no results.
It's unplayable.
I got a quick response to my first petition, the usual "try this, try that..., and no reponse to my pleas since. A "We are aware of a problem and will credit you for the time of unplayability until we resolve this issue..." response would be nice.
Did i mention Eve performed FLAWLESSLY before the lastest patch? WTH did they do?

Edited by: johnny on c r a c k on 39/08/1492 25:19:00 I have had some lock ups the last few days, but im gonna point the finger at the p 0 r n I was downloading, prolly a trojan or something in my p 0 r n,
Well you dont by chance have norton utilities? running that may help.
post your system specs.. so others can see what ya got. you sure that theres no virus or trojan I know you reinstalled eve and it was working fine before the last patch, but sometimes a good format on a system will fix ya right up
did you try and delete your cache? remember to save that bm file so you dont loose your bm folders " god thats a real pita ccp"
if your really enjoying the game and all thats happened is its been fubared for a few days i dont think thats reason to quit . If it is/was the patch and something with your current setup didn't like the patch. Theres not gonna be a fix for a few days but Im sure they're workin on it. did you send in your direct x log so they can see that I dont really have an answer for you man sorry. rest assured thou if it was the patch they'll fix it.

No p O r n downloading here.
yea, i tried that first... ran the nortons, shows clean. Did the ad-aware thing, clean registry, yadda yadda.
I really really hate to do a format because everything else runs flawlessly on my machine. Eve is the ONLY thing causing these problems. Plus I read a few posts from other folks just as upset about this last patch as me who did that and still report the same problems.
I'm sure I'd calm down a little bit if CCP would just reply to my petitions with a "We are aware of and are working to..." and assure me I will receive credit for the DAYS of unplayability. I would go from this to this .

Edited by: voodoo on 29/08/2004 16:42:03 hmm ok so we can now rule out running norton, can rule out a virus and also can rule out any type of spyware or adware.
I fink you said your drivers are all up to date hmm
you did send in your direct x info to ccp? cache has been deleted, ofc when you reinstalled eve that woulda takin care of anything with eve.
seems like you've done all the basic stuff and then some.
did you install anything on your system , anything at all since the last patch? also did this start to happen right after the latest patch was installed, or was it a few days later that you noticed problems? these questions prolly seem redundant, but maybe your answers may fire off a brain cell in someones head that can help ya.

My specs:
Athlon XP 1800+ 768MB RAM MSI GF 4 Ti 4200 2x IBM HDD 80GB Elitegroup K7S5A Mobo
Eve runs like a charm on my system, especially since the last patch which gave me a few FPS more on average. It can get quite choppy in certain situations but until now I haven't had a single lockup or any other kind of crash. Even though I am running two different types of RAM (1x 512MB Infineon, 1x 256MB no-name) which can lead to crashes in other games I am not having any issues in Eve.
I assume something is wrong with your system. Well maybe it isn't your system, but pointing your fingers at the devs screaming "j000 broke my eve" isn't the way to go... trust me

Everything else runs perfect on my system. Eve ran perfect before the patch. IMMEDIATLY after the patch was installed Eve went Fubar. EvE is the ONLY thing experiancing these problem on my system.
I have done everything recommended by everyone to ensure it is not on my side.
How am I to believe it's not on the Devs side?
Ok.... going for the last ditch effort. Saving anything important to me on my second HD. Going to completely format FDisking incl.) my drive. Reinstall windows, new drivers etc. etc. and the Eve client.
If Eve begins to run nicely again I shall return to eat the biggest helping of crow ever witnessed this side of the Mississippi.
If it continues to offer me the same problems, I shall return to continue my flame vendetta against CCP.

I've had nothing but problems with the two FX5200 (one original, and one replacement) I tried to install. That card sucks, in my opinion. It would crash my desktop regularly.
DirectX 9.0c I've also read is causing some problems. Get 9.0b from Microsoft and try that.

Heres what fixed it. (So far) It's still CCPs fault so I only have to eat a little bit of crow.
Before wiping the entire HD I uninstalled the (lastest) Nvidia driver. i installed the oldest one I still had saved away.
Started and logged in fine without the monitor resetting problem I have been experiancing, Warped around, shot at some NPCs, jumped around, returned to base and docked without any problems.
So far, so good.
Eve does not like the lastest GeForce drivers. 53.?? was the only one that worked, any newer version creates the problems.
As a side note, the lastest driver, 67.??, was installed on my machine before the patch when everything was hunky dory.
It was the patch that didnt like the driver.

It could very well be that directX 9.0C is the problem. Where before the patch eve did not use the buggy feature while afetr the patch it did.
I would also suggest going abck to b version of directX

Its not Eve and here is why.
Lets suppose you drive a motorcycle for several years. All this time you had a hole in the top of your gas tank, however for the past serveral years you never filled your tank of gas more then half way. So you drive, and drive with this hole in the top of your gas tank, never having a problem. Then one day, you fill up the tank, then you start driving and all of a sudden you have completly getting gas all over you and all over your bike as the gas is just pouring out of the hole.
Was the problem the new patch (or gas) that was just added? No, the problem always existed, but nothing made it be evident until now.
Hope that makes sense.

Hope that makes sense.

if the latest patch didn`t liked the latest nvidia drivers, it`s a client issue, simple uh?

Have you by chance recently downloaded Windows XP Service Pack #2? I installed that on one of my computers and have had nothing but problems with Eve (CTD, freezeup, freezeup on startup). The other two comptuers I use that have Eve on it (at the same desk) work fine so I assume its the service pack.

Really, truly, you don't have lots to complain about. This *always* happens when a patch is released, and it usually takes a couple of weeks for them to squash all the bugs. Just be glad you weren't around for the Satan-patch of '03... Ooo err.. Those were the days, old legs aren't as good as they used to be... Knee giving me gyp etc. etc.

Necro, I have 1gb DDR333, a X800XT 256mb DDR3, and an audigy 2 sound card.
I too only get about 7fps in asteroid belts (on an X800xt!!!)
Press CTRL+ALT+SHFT+F12 when in the belt, woooo - magic your FPS jumps right up. Still not amazing but beats 7fps. Should send you upto 15 to 25fps doing that, much more playable.
Someone say its my system at fault, go on....

Well I play with a 1GB, AMD 1800 +, 128 MB Geforce 4 TI 4200 card... and it plays well out in the fields.... I must admit I have not checked FPS yet but the only problem I did encounter last night mining... was that the roids seemed to be switching from normal to complete black. But no lag or anything.

No seriously, you CANNOT be getting 7fps with a gig of RAM and a X800. Thats just not right...
I've got a gig of RAM and a Radeon 9700 non-pro and a Athlon 2500+. In game I get about 20-25 FPS with full UI visible (except upon initial warp into belt/station/gate). Ctrl-Tab gives me about 35-40 FPS, and CTRL-F9 gives me around 65-85 FPS.
Only times I get low FPS are in large fleet battles or when running FRAPS, and even with FRAPS going I can sustain 10-15 FPS with the UI visible (very slow HD I'm writing the video capture too, if I had a faster HD it'd be better).
It just might be your system. Might be. Not absolutely is, but ruling it out entirely is impossible and foolish. The Eve Client is the same on both our machines, yet your seeing utterly crap performance, and I'm seeing completely accetable performance (in most situations). You even have a more powerful video card. Your machine is of course suspect, why wouldn't it be?

Lets not get ahead of ourselves...
This game DEFINITLY has issues :P
Software is built on a default calculation. By default X amount of computers will run it flawlesly, if you arent in that number of computers then you may have a few or alot of problems. Then again the problems in this case seem a bit extreem.
Although surely not as extreem as the AC97 soundboard problems that used to occur in EVE. I can't tell howmany times i got a BSOD when firing a gun but it happened ALOT and whent on forever before getting fixed.
Beezle, try to post asmuch info as you can about the stuff in your computer. Chipset details and even manufacturer can be very important, also i suggest you run a decent virus scanner on your machiene and even a spammware scanner...

It's the exact same things as what Zombie did, you may not attack in "safe-areas" (empire/within sentry range) without loosing your ship.

No it's not my problem, I have an amd 1.5ghz 512meg ram an ati 9600se 128meg running windows 98, nothing is on that computer other than EVE. Oh well, I'll just do one account then, I can't really think of anything to train on my other account anyway, maybe I'll just move him to dirtballs account.

Well, seriously. If you fire up the Log server before firing up the client and gathering a Directx log too, you can send it to [email protected] and I'll look for it. Put in topic "EVE has big Ghetto Bootie".
Ive played many online games, and Ive yet to see a dev post and offer assistance to anyone except in Eve. Bravo guys.
We also had a member in our corp that had issues with Windows SP2. The pack just recently came about as an auto update if you have your pc set for that.
