Dont know if this has already been asked but have you considered doing commentary for other peoples movies. Perhaps highlighting what a player is doing and why he is doing it.
Think it would be very cool for newer players, and i'd quite enjoy other peoples movies being broken down a bit and analysed.
I dunno maybe im alone thinking that :)

i mentioned it dark and some people thought it was a bad/egotistical idea. some thought it sounded ok though i think <shrug>.
you guys that would rather have videos, i assure you producing these audio things in no way influences the amount of time between videos. been a rough couple weeks so nothing new in the pipe yet =/

it's very easy to sit back and judge somebodys piloting from watching a video, and would be very poor to try and judge it that way, unless it's your own video

why would you assume that a review would be negative? just because i might sit back and "judge" someone else's video doesnt mean i would have bad things to say. and besides, some people might appreciate hearing something they could do different to be more effective. in away talking only about my own piloting is limited. sure i have a good idea of why things are being done the way they are, but i have no way of reaching a fresh perspective.
not saying im intent on doing anything like this, just think its odd to view it as such a harsh/critical/negative process. it could just be fun, and i might even be more willing to talk about how awesome they are than i would with myself.

I agree comentating wouldn't need to be negative. I'd personally love to hear someone elses take on my video, why they think im doing things etc.
Maybe as a courtesy you could just ask for people to volunteer video's for you to commentate or approach them privately and ask if its something they wouldnt mind.
Would surely be atleast worth a test :)

I know i wouldnt mind it ones i get my GIG movie released always nice to get someone elses reveiw on how your doing and what you could do better.
And there will always be something you could do better, i know when i watch myself fight in a fraps clip or if i get a loss then im always thinking about what i could have done different

No, i'm not saying it would be negative, i'm jsut saying it wouldn't be good form.
I'm saying that watching a vid, maybe 2 or 3 times be able to pause whenever, and then making a commentry on the guy, is a bit.... lame. I guess it could be usefull to total noobs who could use it as a training film....
I'd stick to commentating on your own videos, this way you can justify your reasons for doing things, when in reality you don't know what the other guy was thinking.

I'd have to agree it could be viewed as egotistical, if you just provide commentary for some video without permission or even giving notice to the creator. I don't see any problem if the video was volunteered, or if permission is granted by the pilot(s) being evaluated.
Personally, as long as it is constructive, I would have no problem with criticism of my pvp'ing in public, but then that's not likely to happen unless I actually make a vid :p

In my opinion, piloting in eve is no 'art' or some such nonsense. In 99% of cases there are right and wrong ways to do things, right and wrong decisions to make. True there are often multiple paths to the same end, but with good knowledge of the game its quite easy to see whether a decision was a right or wrong one. With careful observation i don't see why one wouldn't be able to see exactly what the other pilot was trying to do.
A good commentator would be able to perceive what was going on and provide their own insight on the situation: what the observed pilot is trying to do, what is going well and what could be improved. Everyone makes mistakes, most of us LOTS of them, and I don't know why it would be insulting to anyone to have them pointed out... obviously it could be made to be insulting but that's not the spirit of this effort.

You fitted what on your ship? Ok, you're going to go watch such and so vid from beginning to end. See that guy at 8:16 that explodes instantly? Yeah? That's what was going to happen to you with that fitting.
But seriously, I think it's pretty awesome to crawl into the mind of other pilots/FC's, so the more vids with commentary/TS recordings out there, the better. There's always more to learn in EVE

Its not about judging, there's no contest. Its commentary, covering the ships, weapons, modules, and tactics used.
Professional military pilots do exactly this each and every time they fly. Athletes do it all the time.
Why would it be stupid to do it to increase one's skill in a video game?
I'm sure there's plenty of people (judging by this very thread alone) who would love to have kil2 commentary on their own videos.
The best perspective can be someone seeing it afresh. |

I also hate it when people ask me for my fit when
A. it changes
B. you can get it off a killboard
C. its not the fit that wins the fight, its just a small piece of the much larger puzzle
I have to disagree with your viewpoint that a BS should have to choose to be effective against other BS or effective against smaller ships. In my mind BS have so many other disadvantages with SP requirements, isk, and a complete lack of contempt of engagement that they should be effective in a wide range of situations. I'm still not sure if I like apocrypha yet or not. The ability to tackle with just a scram for smaller ships is totally awesome like you said so the changes weren't all bad. I just think that a small cruiser gang should have to work a little harder to be safe from BS guns. Its easy enough to simply bring ewar like TDs or bring logistics to be able to survive against a turret BS, the tracking didn't need as large of a hit as it received IMO. At the absolute VERY least a cruiser sized ship should HAVE to fit to evade BS guns with an AB IMO. I guess what I most miss about BS before the whole nano nerf stuff was not the ability to kill any cruiser or HAC, but the ability to at least drive them off most of the time so that I could escape. That is of course unless they actually used some tactic other than kiting and flying in circles really fast in which case the BS died anyway.
And I also totally love playing the prey and getting people in their predator state of mind before showing my teeth. With 95% of the people they catch being fish that just sit there and die, they are rarely prepared for a shark on their end of their line when they reel it in.

I'd love someone to comment on mine too, but honestly their isn't much fancy piloting, just mostly people getting stomped (myself included). |

Noticed, that mplayer from K-Lite Codec Pack bundle is able to play comments as a 2nd audio stream. You just have to rename mp3 comment file the same as video.
For instance,
Kil2_seven.mkv for video and kil2_seven_comments.mp3 for audio. Turn on the video and check right-click menu for audio section.
Looking forward to see new vids,

Hi Kil2,
thanks a *lot* for your videos, particularly those with added audio commentary. I've been pointed at them by a friend, and they help quite a bit in judging situations for a new pvper like me.
For example, it's extremely useful to hear what you have to say about all the ship types. Cause obviously, as a newb, if you have not yet flown it yourself, you don't know too much about a ship, more so if it's a race you cannot fly at all. Now of course one reads the info on practically all ships repeatedly over time, but that gives only 10% of what that ship really is about. By listening to your commentary and at the same time seeing some of your comments put to practice, one can get a lot of the missing 90% without having to actually go through 100eds of engagements first.
I might also mention that your videos have real nice production values, aside from their high informational value, they are really very entertaining to watch.
So thanks a lot once more and keep up the good fighting,
