CoD 4 is good fun and the singeplayer is not half bad. I still remember that sniper mission -that was one of the best singeplayer experiences I've had in a fps.
I much prefer hardcore mode...and the Russian maps are great. I think I wet myself the first time I saw a ghillie suite -damn those things are cool! I just wish tubes were removed from the game
Although I mostly play Team Fortress 2 these days I still come back to CoD4 now and then for some fun. Good times and definitely worth playing if you're one of the few who hasn't. |

Lol.
Hardcore is what makes snipers work properly. In softcore, it's hard to kill in one shot with a sniper rifle, so you need an automatic weapon to get the second (lethal) shot in. In hardcore, on the other hand, sniper rifles are one-hit-kill, and perfectly accurate. Sure, assault rifles also kill in one hit (I <3 G3), but the scope is still very useful to have on some maps.
Softcore is just stupid. The only gun worth using is the M4, since it's the only gun that can actually hit the target enough times to kill them in a reasonable amount of time. Anything else either does too little damage, has too low a ROF, or too much recoil to beat the M4.
But really, it's all about the grenade launchers. G3 + grenade launcher, overkill, M4 + grenade launcher, martyrdom. BOOM! Even setting it to softcore won't save you from a properly aimed grenade.
Juggy Sniping?
My only real gripe with COD is the M16, it just seems to outperform every assault rifle statistically, still prefer the G3 and G36c myself but the M16 is definitely overpowered compared to the rest. That being said, Suppressed G3 on Hardcore is bloody awesome. |

Relax with the hardcore vs. softcore debate. Tbh this is just catering to different play styles. Part of the reason I like hardcore is because snipers aren't that awesome. If I know a rough location of a sniper and have a heavy weapon I can rip that building apart and chances are that I'll get him. That forces them to be on the move.
I hate martyrdom. You are a lot more likely to kill your teammates than you are at killing your enemy with that perk. _______________ |

Depends on how you play. If you're going to stay at range with most of the rest of your team, yeah, it's kind of silly. However, if you fight in mostly near melee range, it really shines then, particularly if you know the rest of your buddies can keep the enemy pinned there or if it's a camp you're rushing into.

Originally by: CCP Tuxford I like hardcore but it might be because when I started playing I played hardcore and had problems switching to softcore. I used to shoot at people and incorrectly assume they would die from it.
hardcore with friendly fire off is completely stupid though.

The M16 is pretty mediocre, IMO. Sure, it kills things quickly, but so does every other gun on hardcore (yet another reason to play hardcore: better weapon balance). If you want accuracy, the sights and flash are terrible. If you want to spray and pray, you want a true automatic, not just burst fire.

It's a terrible, terrible perk. Most people know not to stick around when they hear the sound of a grenade drop, so you really don't get very many kills with it. Dead silence is far better (no footsteps = easy ambush), or if you want the extra kills from the grave, last stand will usually get you more kills, as well as count towards your kill streak (nice when you die at six kills).
The only thing martyrdom is good for is making idiots cry about it. |

Spraying on hardcore is the quickest way to get killed. Softcore is when people spray the most. P90 anyone?
Also, Merin, I agree on that, it's why I prefer the G36c, it's rock-steady, with pin-point accuracy at long range and has sweet iron sights to boot.

Last Stand is hardly going to get me more kills. It's nothing to point down a bit and put the cur to rest after you've activated that perk. The same idiots that die to that probably die to martyrdom, unless you were killed by a sniper and someone runs into you after that.
My hearing is at fault, likely, but I rarely hear people's foosteps at it is. I'm usually crouching for walking as it is, mostly only running if I'm crossing open ground. Near as I'm concerned, Dead Silence is pretty much a waste of a perk slot. It's not going to garner more kills for me.
Marytyrdom doesn't work for everyone, but it's not a terrible, terrible perk. Even if I don't get anyone with it, it forces people to move. If any teammates are around, they can exploit that. If not, then I know where to look and be careful when I come right back. Keep in mind, I'm not using an assault rifle like a lot do. I'm not looking to kill you from a distance.
And yes, it's amusing to see idiots cry about it. I might replace that perk sometime in the future, but as it is, it's been useful for me to keep it there.

The only thing in the game that comes near to being annoying for me are airstrikes. Seems like on an open map once someone gets to it then it cycles endlessly so you end up hiding in a building till the map timer runs out as stepping out in the open is pretty much instadeath. Kills from airstrikes really shouldn't count towards even moar airstrikes. Helicopter are ok though as you can quickly duck under something then step back out and shoot it down.

If only...half the servers got FF off and half the team runs around with it, along with Nade*3 and Sonic Boom. It should teamkill regardless of FF setting so the guy can get a proper kick for Martyring on his team all the time. The other half has teamswitchers that throw a grenade into a group of friendlies and then quickly teamswitch and get a load of kills. For some reason teamswitching doesn't count as a death.
UAV should never have been added IMO, in BF2 it was annoying enough with the Sat Scan and a UAV on a small area, but a constant map wide UAV just ****s the game, but going for UAV Jammer means you lost out on damage or health. Air Strike and the Chopper (that you'll nearly always get with an Air Strike) are just free kills and ruin gameplay.
Sniper rifles should do more damage, even with the Barrett on Stopping Power I get full chest shots on non-Juggernaughts and still see no kill.
M4/AK47/MP5/AK74 need to be scaled down and put in line with the other weapons. G3 and G36C need a damage boost. Skorpion needs the reload fixed.
CoD4 is fun (I avoid most of the lameness by going as UAV Jammed Shotgunner or Sniper), but too much stuff is there for the lamers. Nade spam, bunnyhopping, noobtubing is way too prevelant for a CoD game. |

The G3 with a damage boost would be ******edly good in hardcore, it would be a one shot-kill regardless of where it hits. With UAV Jammer & Dead Silence it's pretty bloody uber and the only places it doesn't instantly kill are the limbs, everywhere else is a one shot, and that's with a suppressor at long range. I agree with the G36c, as I use it!
What's wrong with the (superiorly awesome) Skorpions reload? I've never had a problem reloading it, but I use Sleight of Hand with it so that may have something to do with it.

I just want to make a point here. We do have some interest in the server, but I do not see people pubbing on it regularly. If we do not see some usage on the server we will be shutting it down. If nobody is on, bring friends!
I will be working on populating the server so that there will be people for you to play with, but for that to work, don't be shy and play :)
The tournies mentioned in the OP are also in the works. Once we get the server all set, and get everything squared away in eve. Feel free to send me an evemail if you have any questions.

I usually use the G3 with the perk that increases damage, 1 shot kill no matter where you shoot them in hardcore. __________________
